Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday he will back a controversial plan to compel ultra-Orthodox Jews and Arab Israelis to complete compulsory military or community servic

"We are citizens of one state, and must all share the burden of its service," he said at the opening of his weekly cabinet meeting, after the Likud party voted to endorse the findings of the so-called Plesner committee.

ca.news.yahoo.com...

This is nothing new for the "ordinary" Israeli, to be raised in part by the IDF/IAF, but it appears they want all citizens regardless of Religion to take part. I'm not one for conscription, but it saved Russia in the East 60 years ago and also, when your country is under constant threat then I can see the need for all eyes and ears to be trained.

What's your take, ATS?

He should have finished his speech by saying it worked for the commies and the Nazis so why not us?

Welcome to Israel enjoy your time as a slave to the state. When will they be changing his title from prime minister to Fuhrer?

It didn't work for the Nazi's because the Reich failed to expand and defend it's grounds in Europe and Russia, due to the Russian conscription.

Nothing wrong with knowing how to defend yourself and ones country.

Even if ones country has gone completely off the deep end? Where do we draw the line?
Are our countries still worth saving when they have let us down time and time again?
Isn't it time to move past this paradigm and into something more mature?

Except that your professional army gets saddled with 'training' lots of people who are at best 'not interested' and at worst embittered and resentful at being enslaved by the state.

It does have a downside.

Will they also follow Russia's way of encouraging loyalty to the state? You know face the enemies guns or you face ours?

Also the biggest killer to the Germans weren't the Russians it was the Russian winter. Just like it did with Napoleon.

As long as mankind worships money we will never get rid of war. There's just too much profit in it.
