Perhaps we could share various positives between cultures then.
I like the Islamic idea of no usury which only puts people into debt and turns them into slaves.

We could go over there and enforce some of our morals and ways own them and they could come over and enforce some of there's on us.
Deal?

not taking action is the main reason behind most of the world's problems.

I feel very passionate about this issue, being a victim of domestic violence myself, Someday, some thing will be done.

Nothing will be done so long as the Middle East remains a war-zone. No society can move forward under such conditions. Force destroys, not helps.

Peace in the Middle East can only happen if, either:

a) the West gives up it's 'oil rush' and moves out and the Jew/Arab crisis is resolved. Or,
b) NATO continues its imperial march and eventually subjugates the entire region.

When there's peace, there's dialogue. And then medieval laws and customs can weeded out.

Do you know how wonderful the Middle East is? It is so rich in history and has amazing archaeological treasures and ancient ruins.

I dream of peace one day for selfish reasons - so I can visit Persepolis, Babylon, Ninevah, Uruk etc, peacefully as a tourist, without worrying that some fanatic will chop my head off.

Really?

Al Kaeda took "action" against the US on 9/11.

How many problems did that solve?

I absolutely love the middle and far east and its rich variety of cultures, now being eradicated by Islam.

I spent the last twenty years studying the history and spiritual history of the middle and far east, that's why it makes me crazy.

I love the beauty of the different cultures.

I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM DISAPPEAR.

Pre-Islamic period of Afghanistan
en.wikipedia.org...

Most of the Zoroastrian, Greek, Hellenistic, Buddhist, Hindu and other indigenous cultures were replaced by the coming of Islam and little influence remains in Afghanistan today. Along ancient trade routes, however, stone monuments of the once flourishing Buddhist culture did exist as reminders of the past. The two massive sandstone Buddhas of Bamyan, thirty-five and fifty-three meters high overlooked the ancient route through Bamyan to Balkh and dated from the 3rd and 5th centuries. They survived until 2001, when they were destroyed by the Taliban.

I have studied many religions including Buddhism, this incident freaked me out.

reports now that she was involved with two men, and they shot her to save face under a trumped up adultery charge

I bet she didn't have relations with either scumbag

the two scumbags were then killed by a third

insanity

get out now

So that's why our government is there? Is this is why they're a major non-nato ally? This is why they want an investment from us?

Their country. Their way of handling issues. Their problems. We wouldn't be in the mess we're in today if more people agreed.

Does it matter to us what they think of the absurdities that go on in the US? Doubtful.

Al Qaeda was able to do what they indirectly from non-action on our part. To stop the kind of abuses we see with Afghan women you have to go into the Madras’s in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the hate and injustice is programmed into people. It is allowed to go on because of lack of involvement. If the claimed moderate majority of Islam took a more responsible role in their religion, they could begin to reign in the radicals. Killing and male dominance is a way of life there only because it is what they are taught. There is a brink, and once the radical population reaches a certain percentage it would be difficult if not impossible for the moderate population to stop them.

I don't want to read the article, because it will only instill in me a fury and thirst for vengeance that I cannot possibly sate. But I don't think I need to tell anyone on this forum how wrong it is to execute someone for this kind of reason. Typical of taliban mindset, and reading it makes me glad we have soldiers in A-Stan shooting the motherf's...

Yes... because killing for petty revenge is so horrible it's ok to attack the societies who do it and avenge the victims.

Yes it is certainly horrible and disgusting, but I don't see how invading and occupying their lands for no legitimate reasons fixes anything.

The destruction of the Buddhas was mindless, irrational vandalism.

But please don't equate the Taliban with Islam.

The Taliban know nothing of Islam. Al Qaeda know nothing of Islam.

The Islamic clerics (men who do know) tried to persuade Mullah Omar to stop the destruction. But a mad dog cannot be persuaded to sit.

No truly religious man would destroy such artefacts. Only men who use religion for other means...

Al Kaeda took action on 9/11 precisely because of action on our part.

It's a vicious circle.

Or perhaps they are just crazy men who enjoy blowing themselves up and flying planes into buildings...

When did I say she meant nothing? I'm saying innocent people are innocent people, our "war" in Iraq was based on lies. It isn't a war, it is imperialist slaughtering.

Would you call the conquistadors killing innocent natives just part of a war? Collateral damage, no big deal.

Other agencies are saying not that she was raped, but that two different Taliban commanders were fighting over her, and that they were subsequently executed, too.

either way you look at it, it's brutal and senseless.
