Osama Bin Laden put his money, and his life, into helping the resistance against Russian occupation of Afganistan.

A database was started to keep track of the volunteers and their family contact information incase the volunteer was killed in action.

This database is called al-Qaeda

Former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook wrote that the word al-Qaeda should be translated as "the database", and originally referred to the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen militants who were recruited and trained with CIA help to defeat the Russians.

The struggle against terrorism cannot be won by military means

Congradulations America!

You, your families, friends, and anyone else in the world who has an account with Facebook. You are a member of al-Qaeda. The American version sure. But a database of family contacts all the same.

Such noble ideals.
Concern for ones fellows and family.
Staying in touch and sharing the news and events.

All we require now are drones circling our land to really bring it home.
