What socially taboo things do you think will be more accepted in the future?

In light of Anderson Cooper's "coming out" ..which was met with more or less a nation-wide *shrug* I think we've reached a point in society where homosexuality isnt as taboo as it used to be even 10 years ago.

I have no really opinion on homosexuality, I have my moral beliefs, but thats just it, they are MY moral beliefs, I believe all people should be treated with respect and treated fair. Never understood the whole hate gays thing. I rather hate thieves, murders, and rapists. Why should I hate homosexuals or any group for that reason?

Anyway, seems the way things are going things have gotten more acceptable over the decades. Multi-racial marriage, single moms, stay at home dads, same sex marriage, men getting pedicures lol.

Say 40 years from now, what things that are taboo now, do you think would be generally accepted in society?

Euthanasia will become much more wide spread - in particular for the elderly and that will be the thin end of the wedge - after that socially unacceptable groups of people like drug addicts and alcoholics will be on the hit list.

Taboo now but not tomorrow!

Fat tax, carbon tax,90% tax rates etc

Polygamy. Divorces can be ugly.

We already have this - it's your birth certificate and when you leave school you get your slave number (Social Security/National Insurance Number)

I think gender bending...transgender alteration will be more accepted.

I also think that choosing your child's traits will be the rage... kind of like putting together an entertainment package or a accessories on a car or truck... even genetic alteration based on career choices.

Also, genetic alterations/mutations of the body at any age... want vampire teeth...take these series of treatments...want bigger breasts...give us six months and you can look likeMiss So and So... guys, want to be built like a porn star... here ya go.

I think there will may many 'taboos' that will be socially acceptable in the next 40 years, if only because TV and the media is pushing hard and bombarding everyone with these taboos to make it seem like the norm. You just have to look at most music videos which are not only overtly sexual (some run like a porn vid), but often have close on total nudity (usually women) and now a lot of fetish / bdsm themes/ looks are coming in too. So I think more and more kids of today will be more accepting of open displays of fetishism and being naked in the street (they are not far from that now most of the time), wont be long before there will be orgy or dogging zones out in the street. Sheesh!

Also, due to some lawyer and psychiatrists pushing for the rights of pedophiles to be classed as a sexual preference much like homosexuality, rather than a mental disorder and so to decriminalise it, if they get their way, that will be another taboo out the window, even though what they do is still completely illegal due to the age of consent not being under 6 years old! ......... I SERIOUSLY hope they don't get away with untabooing this one!!! Although yet again the TV programming is trying hard to make it into a joke and have it acceptable (see Angry Boys)

Also cannibalism may also be made to be 'cool' or something other than abhorrent, already I have seen reports of 'dead baby soup' complete with pictures emanating from China.

Now with the Senate removing the law stating it is illegal to commit sodomy in the Military, this now opens the door to legal bestiality, which was also in the original law.

So buckle up as we head past the world of Videodrome where anything goes (including snuff ) and videos of it all will be up for everyone to see.

The Roman world has been recreated - entertainment, sports and porn/drugs/sex are the new Roman Circus - keeping the masses entertained whilst the new totalitarian beast rises in the background. Get people hooked on sin and they lose all sense of absolute morality, accepting worse and worse behaviours as 'normal'. Jesus did say that if He had not cut short His return, no flesh would be saved. This should be a sobering thought to most, but alas, the love of sin keeps them from seeing or understanding how man is easily led to his destruction through the lust of the eyes, lusts of the flesh and pride. Sin is a downward spiral into animalistic behaviours. How many people today, conditioned to believe that they themselves descend from monkeys, use the argument that 'homosexuality exists in the animal kingdom therefore it is "normal"'. How many today butcher the unborn, willingly. How many today support forced population reduction as long as they are not on the list. How many today view pedophilia as just another 'normal' sexual practice. How many today abandon their elderly parents once those parents need them most. How many today are in prison. How many today bury their kids due to drugs and suicide. How many today lock every door and window, set the alarm and own a gun for protection - in their own home. How many today suffer the heartache of kidnapped children. How many today suffer the breakdown of families. Yet, how many can recognise that their own tolerance of these behaviours within society are the cause of all of this heartache. Love is defined as tolerance, yet this isn't Our Creators definition of love. Man, without God's Truth, is taking the world to the end of the Age, and they cannot see that their own actions stem from the mind of the beast. The mark of the beast is is in the mind and in the actions of a person. As the true Christian gospel isn't preached, the beast simply fills in the void. Darkness is rising, yet more and more people are welcoming it because they've been taught to love and tolerate what has always been considered evil - as 'good'. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is willing that all are saved, but tragically, most choose the darkness because the love of wickedness is in their hearts, and because they never learned to love truth - God Himself. Jesus still heals the blind, giving them sight to SEE. Jesus still heals the deaf, giving them ears to HEAR, and He still heals the lame, giving them a level path of UNDERSTANDING. But alas, most will never willingly repent of their love of evil because they love the darkness.

Aside from multi-racial marriage, all those things you listed are real problems in today's society.

I think that a certain medicine/multi use plant will no longer become a taboo subject to discuss and will ultimately be more socially acceptable in the future.

Satanism and/or any religion that promotes disparaging and murdering Christ/Christians is coming en vogue again. I suspect that the EU and Vatican are not only in the process of orchestrating a one world government but also a one world religion that will essentially deny Christ. Many religions already deny that Christ is the Savior but I suspect that all of those religions are about to join together under the EU and Vatican. The EU and Vatican will need to create a religion that undermines God in an effort to establish the one world government's authority. People who insist on believing in God and following His rules will never tolerate the communist one world government/religion that the EU and Vatican are trying to create.

The Bible claims that Satan wants to set his throne above God's throne and rule the world and that is precisely what the EU and Vatican are trying to do. A lot of people, even on this board, already deny that there is a God or a need for a Savior all the while setting themselves up as their own gods i.e Wicca, Oprah's religion, Buddhism, David Icke's New Age spirituality, etc. How ridiculous they all look though! The world is in shambles for the simple fact that humans are so incredibly dumb and incompetent but yet those same humans insist on claiming to be gods who are capable of attaining their own salvation. Pathetic! If Oprah is her own god then she should be able to make her cable network successful and make herself younger...and thinner but alas, she's just a fat, old woman with a failed cable network that insists on claiming to be a god so that she can feel better about herself. If you ever wonder why God sent Christ to save us all, just take a moment and look at all the incompetent, bumbling idiots all around you and realize that there is absolutely no hope for any of us otherwise.

The EU and Vatican are going to try to make themselves like the Most High but they will fail as will everyone else who is dumb enough to believe that the cool thing to do is to support the one world government/religion that claims that the neanderthals running the EU and Vatican are divine. Denying God and the need for Christ are no longer taboo.

I..don't think i have much more to add to that.

IF, emphasis on the capital IF, the information age and the attendant death of privacy does not go hand in hand with a careful manipulation of data designed to misrepresent and steer social norms, we're going to learn a lot about normalcy over the next decade or two, and it's going to undermine a lot of hypocritical prejudices.

Based on the things that are already getting a lot of play in our popular appeal/profitability based media that nobody owns up to being the audience for, here are a few guesses...

1. Bi-curiousity, especially among homophobes. Open homosexuality is already getting less and less taboo, true enough, but there does seem to be a double-standard when it comes to people who are assumed based on their observed conduct or statements to be completely heterosexual. I suspect that at present, a woman who has no problem with homosexuals would change her tune if she found out that her boyfriend's last partner was another man, but that in the future that may not be the case.


2. "Cowardice", pacifism, and other consistently non-confrontational stances. Assertiveness is valued in our culture, and this causes a lot of people to talk and act pretty tough and aggressive, but when push comes to shove, a lot of people will curl up in a ball before they ever take a single swing for any reason. As the means by which we learn about conflict moves from bar stories to tube video, we're going to get a more accurate picture of psychology in conflicts.

2b. Hand in hand with this will come an increased taboo against bullying, the beginnings of which we are already seeing now. Perhaps this will get to the point that "Bully's Lib" will eventually become an issue due to an excessive backlash before that side of the dynamic is fully understood.


3. Some forms of dishonesty. We're going to get statistical evidence on when and how people lie, and what the relationship between the lies and the truth really is. I suspect we will find out that the lies generally attempt to represent the outline of the truth in a safe and easier to relate to manner. This can be compared to the tendency of political candidates to personalize or simplify stories that would be perfectly valid without the lies to make them more fit for mass consumption.


4. Snooping. We're going to find out that people violate people's privacy all the time, usually with no malicious intent, and we will also get more used to it being done by major entities for greedy and sometimes nefarious purposes. We will eventually just accept the death of privacy in many venues.


5. Poor hygiene. Frankly, many segments of society are obsessed with cleanliness because it's been aggressively marketed to them beyond the bounds of health and reason. The continuation of this slow economic climate, the move from real-world interactions to online interactions, and population growth making it less common for people to have a comfortable uncrowded home environment where they can always get into the bathroom in the morning is going to force a more European view on this subject to take hold in America. I remember reading about this happening in Japan even in better economic times. People will probably feel that they need permission to go very far down this road once they see it starting though, and this will probably rely on the candor of blogs and other social media.


6. Unemployment/Homelessness. Long term unemployment is going to be a normal thing for a lot of people from now on, at least until major depopulation occurs (frankly I think this whole economic downturn is engineered to identify expendable people for the NWO and ensure that they don't accidentally kill people they're going to need later). In time ways of getting by and having a life under such circumstances will emerge, and there will be people who choose never to seek employment and to live very differently from commercial society as a result. They will find non-economic contributions to make to society and will eventually gain acceptance... although they may be murdered soon after (probably by means of being excluded from medical care in advance of an engineered pandemic) they will have gotten far enough that we will miss them when they're gone.


7. conspiracy theory / political radicalism / uncommon religious views / other minority world views. Self explanatory really- people say things online you don't talk about around grandma or the boss at work, and people are doing more and more of their talking online, so there's going to be a lot less effort to fit into consensus reality. This will go along with religious liberalization, already seen in the interfaith and secular-boosting religous trends of the 90s which fundamentalists reacted against in the '00s, and which I believe is due for a synthesis in the coming decade.
