In 1978 I lest school an I was told to go in to a Government training program.
I dont have qualifications.
then I got a job my self.
when I lost it I was put in to one again.

Got to love the irony of you commenting on this story with the phrase "cotton picking"...

That's a turn of phrase that has it's roots in slavery..

There is no discrimination here; ethnic minorities and blacks do very badly in North Yorkshire. The authorities are simply trying to alleviate disproportionate rates of unemployment.

There are parts of Moss Side (amongst others) in Manchester where whites are doing very poorly in terms of employment......do you think the job centre might launch a campaign, and print leaflets advertising jobs for "Whites only"?....you know, to try and alleviate the disproportionate rates of employment?

And if they did, what do you think might happen?

That's why I used it. It is a reminder of what racism brought about.

A cotton picking minute is like 30 minutes on account of the back breaking nature of the job. They carry the cotton in sacks; they bend down and pick cotton until the sack is full.

So are you saying that until every white person's lot is seen to, then any effort to target minority problems is inverted discrimination?

i think you using the word discrimination may be a bit to far. I understand it.
But you have to know that minorities have a higher unemployment rate, a lower education rate and live in much higher poverty rates compared to whites.

So if they need to make a minority only event to help people so be it.

That is crap plain and simple.

Why not help EVERYONE. It shouldn't matter the color of someone's skin. Aren't we all human? Don't we all deserve a chance at a decent life?!

I wish countries would stop separating people by race, it doesn't matter. Everyone wants to make a living, have a home, be able to feed themselves and their family. It shouldn't matter where you come from.

No...What I am saying is that that leaflet is illegal!

Under the Race Relations Act, it is unlawful for a person to discriminate on racial grounds against another person. The Act defines racial grounds as including race, colour, nationality or ethnic or national origins.

source

What is unlawful discrimination? Unlawful discrimination can take a number of different forms: You must not treat a job applicant worse than another job applicant because of a protected characteristic (this is called direct discrimination). For example: An employer does not interview a job applicant because of the applicant’s ethnic background.

Regardless of what the authorities are trying to do, it is discrimination by definition.

The correct approach would be to target 19-24 year olds of the affected areas, irrespective of race.

If there are 'disproportionate rates of unemployment' then the authorities should deal with the root causes rather than handing out jobs, which seems to me a stop-gap measure rather than a solution.

I suspect, in this case, the root cause lies in the home, with the parents.

The leaflet is from a jobcentre and it is advertising training for the long term unemployed in basic ict to make the jobless more employable. No jobs are being handed out.

Correct. The race relation acts specifically addresses racism and the effect it has on minorities who constitute about 5% of the population of the UK.

The Equalities Act 2010 permits 'positive action' in favour people with 'protected characteristics' in certain circumstances;

Section 158 of the Equality Act 2010 builds on existing legislation on positive action and extends it to include other “protected characteristics” such as age and disability. It allows, but does not require, “any action” to be taken to support those with a protected characteristic, as long as it is a “proportionate means”. Such actions might include training to enable individuals to gain employment...

www.parliament.uk...

The characteristics that are protected by the Equality Act 2010 are:

age (in employment, further and higher education only)
disability
gender identity and gender reassignment
marriage or civil partnership (in employment only)
pregnancy and maternity
race
religion or belief
sex
sexual orientation.

Everyone has been, will be or is catagorised as having 'protected characteristics' under the Equalities Act 2010. This law recognises our humanity and the disadvantages people can suffer.

I think we both agree on that point, however, I direct you back to my earlier post, In areas of Manchester, white people are in a minority, and are disadvantaged......would a leaflet presented in the local job centre, asking for white only applicants be acceptable?.....yes or no?

Why not just advertise for 16-24 year old who are looking to train in these areas in Leeds who have been unemployed for a minimum of say 6 months. Surely that would be fair to all and would not pull a race card or make anyone feel inferior. It almost reads as thick idle black people only need apply, how degrading, racist and annoying.Everyone needs a fair chance, whatever colour creed etc if they are struggling to get work then they need all the help they can get not pigeon holed into boxes. I can also see how annoyed the OP would be with it under her circumstances, being even refused a chance at the training because she is white. This kind of thing makes my blood boil, not all whites are rich and have great qualifications and not all blacks are poor and uneducated, just goes to show what a pathetic understanding of employment the government has.

I think it is worth pointing out exactly what PATH is and does.
Have a look at that file.....

Positive Action refers to measures that enable people from black or other minority ethnic groups to compete on equal terms

How is it competing on equal terms, if only black or minority ethnic groups are eligible to apply for the positions?

the UK is heading for hell in a hand cart!

nor me, but I have faith that we will rout these charlatans................I have recently stumbled upon twitter and have commented on several "semi" famous left wing commentators who are actually blatantly anti white, and they are given succour by various white socialists, when I call them out on their obvious racism they scuttle away or clam up- if this was white people in positions of power saying this then it would be well publicised.........

racist low life- treat people as individuals, there are plenty of unemployed white people but you see people as "groups" or "races", I thought your kind died out in the 50s

Yah, we have that garbage all over Canada too.

I've seen it too many times where they post "native" only jobs. It's stupid. They may as well say they are only looking for Christians or people under 5' tall while they are at it.

It's not right, but even if they didn't put that little disclaimer there; then applied, I can guarantee you no job.

The goofy thing about the native only jobs, is that often they can't fill them. So what happens is that white guys who have married native women and live on reserve take the jobs and are qualified as being native employment.

I don't get it.
