In April, when word of Google Glass emerged (before the demo showed us exactly how easy, effective and hi-fi using the accessory actually could be), an ominous thread began on the official forum of the International Private Investigators Union. “Undercover Surveillance Just Got Easier,” it declared, “with the New Google Glasses.”

With our government edging closer to watching our every move, do we really want everyone on the internet to be able to as well?

The article claims it could be easier to report crimes, but it will also make you easier to triangulate.

Remember a few months ago when the NSA said it was already buddying up to Google to get information on our search histories(legaltimes.typepad.com...)? Well something tells me it's not going to slow down once they get a hold of our whereabouts, what we're seeing, and hearing.

This seems like a pretty cool invention, but do we really want to be tracked and recording everything we see?

I won't be purchasing a pair, at least not until I learn to hack the heck out of it and turn off some functions.

Don't you just love when they try to sell the general public on crap like this by claiming how it will improve our lives. They try to sell people on tracking chip implants by claiming it will help with missing pets or abducted children. They claim such an invasion as "Google Glasses" will make it easier to report crimes, etc.

The sad thing is so many people will eat stuff like this up.

I read an article two days ago about this. Google seems to be really upset because someone in the porn industry said that they can't wait to try the glasses out in making POV porn!

Not only that, but I'm curious as to how the wireless radio will function in these little doodads. If it's as internet intensive as it appears to be, I'm curious as to how the RF exposure will affect neural activity and such. Even low power exposure could pose a hazard overtime. It brings into question what the maximum permissible exposure limits are for the frequency they use, and how they handle them.

People don't seem to understand how close-knit Google and the NSA are right now, as well as how large the NSA is growing as we speak. The NSA is building a huge information hive in Utah right now, full of servers to save and store personal information and surveillance data from cameras, files from all over the country.

Even if you don't own a "Google Glass" as it is called, your neighbors may. They're being hyped on the internet almost as much as the first iPhone was when it was first introduced. The fact that so many of these may come into our everyday society means that we will no longer have to consent to having our pictures taken or videos made of us. We will be caught in the background everyday.

How long will it take before facial recognition software comes out for "Google Glass"? We won't even know we're being seen until we're tagged in a Facebook photo or Youtube video.

You make a good point. I wonder if we are already getting too much exposure with all the cell phones, towers wifi etc.

The master himself, William Gibson foresaw this. Read his book Virtual Light

Good. I will get these. It will serve the NSA right. I will put them on my dog and we will give the NSA a tour of the neighborhood fire hydrants and fence posts.

I don't know...I find it hard to believe anyone with half a brain at the NSA would want to watch the images from those. It's not like terrorists will be wearing them to meetings to hatch dastardly plots. I think skateboarders and mountain bikers and hikers and kayakers might capture video worth looking at. And the people behind all the Lol cats craziness might make something interesting of it. But NSA worthy? what? Why? If this stuff about our govt is true then lunatics really are running the asylum.

I can't even believe they actually wade through all the drunken doofuses posing photos of duck lip pouts and badly rendered tattoos on Facebook. Or how about the vacation or party photos that somehow manage to look like everyone else's vacation or party photos no matter who is in them or what the background is? Or all the text speak drivel exchanged between barely literate bored teens, Tweens and early twenty somethings. Good grief the prospect of having to wade through that dreck or developing the technology that wades through it must be enough to drove some of their employees to despair. I certainly wouldn't want that kind of work.

As for the images from the goggles, I wonder how many viewers will be able to watch them without getting motion sickness.
