I have a bad experience with these ticket guys in Perth. I was on a train from Fremantle going to Perth... When I arrived in Perth I forgot the ticket on the train, And as you walk out the station you are supposed to show ur little ticket if you don't have a card. So I said to the guy look I forgot my ticket on the train, And he blows up threatening me with taking me to jail etc, shouting at me to run and get the ticket... I am like dude I don't even know what cart I was on plus the train is leaving right now, There is no way I can get it for you... He then started calling me a liar etc, more threats. I said to him that man, this was my last money I used even if it only cost me 3 dollars its all I had, I am a busker and took a chance by going here, I am sorry I can't pay for another ticket. More shouting etc. But in the end he let me go. Later on I saw these posters all over the place(And in the trains) that supposedly the ticket masters etc has the same authority as a cop... so it isn't that strange that they act like assholes because they are high on their all mighty power....

Really these blokes should be trained in how to communicate instead of bully and use physical force.

Yeah but don't you NEED an "IQ" for that?

In civilized places, and even others such as New Jersey, you can buy a ticket on a train. It costs more than at the station. Even if you don't normally sell tickets (and hence make it a more significant fine) there is no reason for this to be more than an economic penalty.

The original story is almost like a brutal beating over an expired parking meter ("theft of government services!!!!")----or a fatal drone attack for highway speeding. Obviously we ought to have law enforcement, but ones compatible with civilization, and not barbarism.

Real life is not binary.

Are these people cops or just security guard type people?

It's excessive to tackle someone on a concrete floor, that could kill them over a train ticket. Escorting them out the train station and giving them a fine or something would make a lot more sense.

Having an attitude problem does not give a state hired contractor the right to break the law and assault someone.
Bet your someone who sees a woman with a black eye from her husband and thinks she probably deserves it.

Are you serious? The bloke had a ticket and it wouldn't matter if he didn't. No one deserves to cop a hiding like that
no matter what they've done.
In 2007 I was travelling from Merinda Park on the Pakenham line to the city, I couldn't get a ticket as the machine wasn't working as per normal. So I thought I'd get a ticket at Flinders Street when I got off. I mean I still had to buy a ticket, I still had to get home right?
So I go up to an inspector and report that the machine wasn't working at Merinda Park and that I wanted an all day
ticket. He says you cant buy one, he wanted my details and that I was to be fined $200.
At this point I lose it and he gets 3 of his buddies and they try to heavy me. I'm not a small bloke and I can handle myself but I was lucky Flinders St. was crowded at 8.30 am in the morning. I think I was about to get a hiding.
Common sense prevailed and even though I tried to fight the ticket, they still fined me $200.
So for the want of a $4 ticket, I am fined $200 and that bloke at Dennis station gets bashed, and he had a ticket.
This is the future, everything privatised and policed by thugs.
Martial Law is already here.

$200 was clearly not enough as you seemingly do not recognise that you willingly and knowingly travelled on the train without paying, with some lame dame excuse that you wanted to buy a ticket.

You should have been roughed up a little more, might have taught you not to cheat the system.

You clearly did not read his post or are a troll working for the system. A few years back I maintained the ticketing system and they broke down quite frequently> I had to go to the aid of several passengers being strong armed by security because they could not purchase ticket at their station.
I was told on several occasions not to tell passengers their rights so that they could issue their fines and lord it over them.

I remember one joker had bailed up a kid and was fining him while I had the machine open. I calmly explained to the ticketer that there was no way for the youth to purchase a ticket as the machine had been out for the last hour. Well he didn't like that one little bit but he let the kid go. It was like someone had taken his candy away. He was not interested in the truth he just wanted to give out fines. That is the culture in their industry.

Your rights:If a machine is out Note the time and date. Still purchase your ticket when possible. Report the machine if you have time. If you are caught without a ticket give the place and time you embarked, Machine outages are logged on the system and you can prove ticket purchase was not possible. If you are fined you can request/subpena their outages for the evening when fighting the ticket. If faced with a ticket contractor you may like to give specific details of the broken machine and time. If they are interested in doing their job they will call in and check.

Nah they aren't cops bit they think they are, they're Victoria police rejects so they get their kicks harassing people who don't have tickets.

I hardly ever use public transport and when I do it's generally a tram that takes me 5/6 stops- not worth buying a ticket for IMO

Call peoples ancestors scum and mention that their ancestors were convicts doesn't sound too mature to me.

Trolls, be they conscious or unconscious ones, cannot but help use logical fallacies to back up there arguments. It is therefore unsurprising that Arbeit lurched at you with an argumentum ad hominem fallacy.

Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as a logical fallacy, or more precisely an informal fallacy and an irrelevance.

I would suggest that posters on this site look into logical fallacies if they have not done so already. One can recognise and remove trolls from ones life in a matter of minutes with an understanding of logical fallacies.

Google Fallacy Watch sometime.

What is the law on self defense when it comes to those that are in power ??
If I had a group of those 'thugs', clearly abusing the 'power' and advance on me over a #ty MYKI error,
I would no doubt self defend myself and break a few kneecaps...

So he had a ticket? Is it a crime to have your feet on a seat or argue with a ticket agent? Seems to me that he didn't do anything illegal, how do they justify what they (ticket agents) did?

If I were in that position, had my ticket and still got shoved like that. I would have beaten the crap out of them..

It has to start some place, it has to start some time, what better place then here? what better time than now?

Where was their uniform? how is the guy supposed to they are on duty when they aren't wearing a uniform? This guy was beaten for no reason especially by guys that weren't even dressed to show they were someone to be listened to. Just because they show a badge means nothing there is a code of conduct they have to follow and OHS rules they need to follow and they look to me like they weren't following any of them.

Yeah it looks like the guy mouthed off at them but so would I if I had someone in plain clothes trying to make themselves feel high and mighty because they have a badge or a position of power what a joke.

I hope the guy wins in court and there should be no reason at all why he shouldn't these train gaurds in all states are starting to get the same powers as police and these powers always get abused.

I'm interested in what would happen if you came out on top in an altercation these guys started, they're not cops but
does assaulting one carry a higher price like with a cop or is it just routine assault.

The problem is lack of consequences somewhere along the line the laws of physics were altered, people used to understand that for every action there is an equal & opposite reaction.
(Action) Not buy a $4 ticket / (reaction) verbal warning possible token fine.
(Action) Gang bash someone for no reason / (Reaction) Pay backs a B%$ch.
Are these people really that arrogant or stupid, if they did that to me or 1 of mine I would even the score one way or another & seeing I know who they are and where they work it's not going to be hard to find out what they drive where they live & the rest is history & a trip to the ED.

I too have had the unwarranted pleasure of their pugilistic attention. A couple of years ago in Perth Western Australia. I had been going through a traumatic period, after recently losing my beautiful 17yr old son to suicide. I had caught a return ticket Perth - Rockingham. Somewhere along the way, I inadvertently lost my ticket, due to my mind being elswhere due to obvious reasons. When I could not produce a ticket and had no money to buy another one, as I was off work due to grief. These two transit guards of Indian origin, which is the majority employed.(no Iam not racist either) I believe they are the Nagas (watchers of the Serpent Race). They proceeded to harass me, I said to them "Look Guys can you give me a break, I have recently lost my son and Iam not thinking clearly. I havent got any more money can you let me slide" At this stage, they told me they had to detain me and take me to the Perth Watch house for processing. At this stage I became irate and said "# this bull# over a 3 dollar fare" and proceeded to walk out of the station. At this stage I was physically tackled to the ground by two of these thugs, my arm twisted behind my back and was told by one of my aggressors. No wonder your son killed himself with a long haired loser of a father like you. I just stared at him and said # You. I was in the military for six years and I woke up to that. It seems they are all too willing to become mentally and physically aggressive at the slightest infraction. At each station they have at least 20 to 30 guards doing nothing but harassing commuters.

Ticket inspectors should not have the right to manhandle passengers and use force. Even if they're fare evaders. Some lousy minimum wage ticket inspector is allowed to use force? WTH.

Grow up Arbeit, these acts of violence, are not random or contained only to the Rail system. It could be you or a family member who receives treatment at the hands of these thugs one day. When you have that life experience lets see which side of the "Fence" you are then.

You dirty little fascist. What are you, a cop? Or worse, a Christian? Please for the love of god don't tell me you're a Christian cop. What gives you the right to decide such things?

It's a bloody train ticket. Pull your head in you crazy bastard, we're all humans aren't we? I think it's time we started behaving like humans. You have a point, it is theft, but petty theft at best. The punishment is ridiculous. I suppose we should start hanging them at the gallows too eh buddy? I bet that would please you. Or maybe that's not punishment enough being a quick relatively-clean death. Maybe we should quarter the thieving scum on medieval torture machines or with some strong horses, perhaps that would satisfy your irrational blood-lust?

Where do people like you come from, seriously? I'd really like to know, if only so I can avoid your area of the world.
