They are going to get very invasive . Ever wonder what happened to the Nielson rating system .They already know hat you are watching . In fact they could be watching you . They can activate your house phone mouth piece from what I have heard many years ago ..

For you people worried about the data on chips, it is only a long number. This is used to find your data on a database. It is not like the chip has any info on you, it is all in the computer.

I just got my DL in the mail today (did renewal through internet), When I used the flashlight, I didn't see a golden star, but I did see a hidden outline of the CA bear symbol. This puppy can be swiped, scanned... you name it. The paper that the DL came with says "Introducing the California SecureCard! Oh ok. That is probably what it is. Thanks. Usually I look up stuff but I was lazy last night and decided to shine the light on it and saw that star appear and well, went into paranoid mode.

The RFID chip has to have an antenna like a transformer winding to develop power to power up . It would be sandwiched between layers of the card It has to transmit a signal that can be picked up at a distance when interrogated with a magnetic flux . The chip would be a silicon chip and light would not pass easily through it . Most RFID chips stick out of the card and have a gold looking back over the chip . But my gate and door access card has everything sandwiched in it and is relatively thin . When I punched a hole in it to attach it to my key chain I cut the antenna and it stopped working .

Sorry if I'm daft, OP, but I don't see how getting a star on an ID = an RFID chip. Not everything is a conspiracy, bro. Just sayin'.

To be compliant it must contain an RFID chip.

I've refused to get one since my last expired.
I haven't driven a car in close to a year because of this stupid law.

the chips dont store personal information on them and are used primarily for trips into canada. i could care less about this chip as long as we dont venture into trying to place this crap under a persons skin. this is nothing new, cell phones, credit cards all have the ability to track ur location and already do.

If you read roadgravel's posts on Page 7 of this thread, he lists all the info already captured by the
ordinary non-chipped DL & ID cards. It's a lot of info, including a scan of your photo.

I'm really annoyed that these companies & agencies are NOT honest with the general public.

I know the iPhone & SmartPhone can track your location because there was a recent buzz about it.

But my banks never told me my credit cards have RFID chips in them. Why not spell it out?

My State was one of 25 States that rejected the Real ID Act of 2005, but they are clearly implementing it without spelling it out so it is clear to all. They are doing it in a sneaky way.

There are much more stringent rules for ID verification.

There will be a Gold Star in the upper right corner of the new card. It's actually a white star in a gold circle.

There is no option for a non-chipped card in my State.

They are not spelling out that this contains an RFID chip, because this State rejected the Real ID Act, but they're doing it anyway.

The official word is that this is a "more secure" ID and it's to "protect us from ID Theft."

Ironically, this actually makes us more vulnerable to ID Theft because of how easily RFID chips can be scanned.
Now you need to buy a "secure" wallet.

A license can be Real ID compliant using bar codes on the back. I don't think ANY RealID cards have RFID in them at present.

The RFID thing is part of EDL, which we don't have in Florida. I looked at mine, no chip. If you live in a northern border state, you MIGHT have EDL or PASS.

DHS is squealing for RFID, which I don't really understand. Barcodes on the back already exist, the readers are cheap, it can't be skimmed, it's durable, it doesn't piss people off. But they haven't so far managed to get RFID into law. All that's required for RealID is machine readable data. RFID is not mandated.
