Of course the USSR had its own propaganda! Propaganda is a great way to instill national unity and patriotism... The only difference is that underneath it all, my wife and I both liked the same things at the same time...

Our cartoons were the same really... We had bugs bunny, they had their own mischievous bunny... They had a bad wolf, we had a coyote...

In the end, we all grew up pretty much liking the same thing, at the same time, yet our propaganda told us that we were different, we were enemies, and we had to fear each other...

Of course. It is the same underbelly running the media (the banks). Which, honestly, brings us full circle back to your point.

But we all had the same money controlling media, so the same tools were used by them to condition us to whatever it was we were to be conditioned to. We learn different things, however, to instill deep divisions within humanity.

In the Bible (which I see as a book and nothing more) there is the story of the Tower of Babel. I have often considered if it might be an allegory describing this severe weakness in men. That it is part of our nature, imbued by whatever/whoever created us, that we are to be divided and always at war?

I dunno. Given my bent for esoteric study (and that I know that the Bible is riddled with esoteric meaning), it seems possible.

ETA: we are all the same. It is why i don't dislike another nation, despite what media wants from me. Yes, we have differences. But nothing that can't be overcome with patience, empathy, and logic. I don't argue your point on this at all.

Virgin Media don't make phones. It may be Samsung, HTC or Blackberry that make it. And yes, Apple is constant (and current) litigation with the first two.

It's more about trends and forecasts than the current situation. When you see Android phones going from nothing to outnumbering iPhones more then 2 to 1 in just a couple of years it becomes worrying for them. When you see competitors phones becoming more powerful than your own.. you get worried.

Going by projections, iPhones will be marginalised just like the Mac is versus Windows PCs.

The thing I don't understand about what you pro-socialist and I suppose pro-what I know, is that you look at whats there but not what isn't. No ideology you know would make the world a nice place.

The way we think has to progress, we can't stay with capitalism because the scum rises to the top. We can't use socialist methods because some are inapplicable in today's society and in most the scum rises to the top. We need to have a system where greed can't exist. And most people are greedy and it's never not been like that, so effectively, it's impossible to live in a happy world unless everyone thought like me.
But how could we even come up with the foundations for a utopic world ideology? Everyone would have to work not for reward but because we need things to get done, people would still have to become Doctors even if it's has the same rewards as store assistants, simply because we need Doctors. We couldn't force people to do certain jobs, children will have to grow up thinking "I have to work hard because other people rely on me as much as I rely on them" rather than "If I work hard through life, maybe i'll make alot of money"

I don't know about you, but I think what I wrote was a waste of time because I can't as a sole person ever understand how to create a utopia, every single person on the planet would have to help me with it. Which would be revolutionary in itself for man to do something as one.

In the Bible (which I see as a book and nothing more) there is the story of the Tower of Babel. I have often considered if it might be an allegory describing this severe weakness in men. That it is part of our nature, imbued by whatever/whoever created us, that we are to be divided and always at war?

Yeah I see your point, but I think it's the opposite. That whatever/whoever created us(as we are now, lets say after the tower) forced us to be divided and always at war because if it was the other alternative, we'd achieve more than what this creator has amounted to.

Apple is the worst of bunch. It is their portion of the factory that the children kill themselves in. You do know the factory is segregated and each company has their own building right?

I claim no responsibility. I own no cell phone, no laptop, no tablet, no flat screen tv, no gps.

I do agree that rampant consumerism is to blame for many ills in the world today. Not just electronics, but automobiles and other areas. Why do we need a new model of car every single year? In WW2 car factories quit making cars to switch to war production. Not until the war ended were new model cars produced. I buy cars that are at least ten years old and drive them for another ten or so years. Currently I own no cars and use a bicycle for my transportation or walk. It is a used bicycle rescued from the dumpster and repaired by me.

Do you work for or make money off of Apple products? Why do you defend them so? What do you stand to gain from them?

Thats great man, your a good person, you some how managed to avoid every fox con product and chip they have ever manufactured, I bet you only buy groceries grown with in walking distance of you, and log on to ATS using telepathy.

AS for the rest of us, yea we need to do better at enforcing our beliefs when it hits the wallet, find out every company that does this crap and boycott them.

Its why our economy is so crappy anyway, the disposable cheep products being produced abroad because we are to terrified of losing the cheep goods by charging companies that do this crap, American companies making money off Americans while making sure they give nothing back.

Ill give you an example of this, Googles new box was built in america, the tv thing, It cost 300, every other device that does the same thing cost half if not less because they are built in china though.

You know what every ones first complaint? the price.

It will fail, because american consumers don't see that by demanding for cheep #, they shoot themselves in the foot in the long term.

That is the entire problem that needs to be fixed, but you know what, it wont because no one wants to spend what an American made electronic cost.

Oh did i raise to many good points? thats usally the response one gets when you do, "are you a shill?"

Nope Im not, Ive worked retail where both apple products and their competitors are sold, for a long long time, Apple is no worse than any other major company.

But mostly I hate it when I see people ignorantly complaining about something THEY directly caused, and blaming it on the Symptom and not the actual problem.

Apple simply is the most successful, and hence get the target painted on their back, and for some reason Apple has the most visceral response from people positive or negative.

I will give you a bit of my resume. I was a sales and marketing manager for ............. Microsoft.
Yep even apples competitors in the industry respect them and their products, our biggest fear in my dept at the time was apple deciding it wanted to make games... I

*this^

You hit the nail on the head. They are scared because other manufacturers are releasing tech that does everything their's does for a fraction of the cost. They want to keep selling their phones for £400 pounds a pop and their iPads for £600 a pop(if you want a good one with a decent amount of memory).

I love these type of statements

true, and Android already outsold the Iphone last year

That's like saying it took every car manufacture to out sell a ford mustang. Sure they got beat, but it took multiple companies what a 100 different droid models and iterations to do it.

What are the single company sales figures?

Deny ignorance as long as apple is not involved right?

So what if it took 100009 companies or iterations ? The bottom line is, there are more Androids out there than Apple and Apple as a company wants to change that because it translate to profit and growth.

However, I'm sure Apple board of directors understand as you do that what really matters is the single company sales figures and they don't worry about getting the bigger part of the market. They are a corporation that is happy to stay where they are and not grow to increase profits for the share holders.

BTW I wasn't knocking Apple with my previous post. The previous poster made a reference to waiting till iphone get surpassed by android and I simply posted that had already been done.

Of course Apple made a lot of money. " There's a sucker born every minute"

Apple easily charges 3 times as much money for retail equipment which for today's Apple Computer basically amounts to a PC with an OS that's mostly GNU, BSD Unix based. I would rather say that Apple is The Number One Corporate Thief.

Ever seen the t-shirt: "Windows 95=Mac 89"?

The mood is tense these days at Apple Computer Inc. In a little more than a month, Microsoft Corp. will launch Windows 95, the software modeled after Apple's Macintosh operating system, thus taking a giant step toward wiping out the ease-of-use advantage that has long made Apple famous.

articles.latimes.com...

That was from the LA Times. July 14th, 1995.

We are an Apple family. I've owned 4 iPhones over the years, and EVERY ONE OF THEM still works. The original is only good for using as a glorified iPod, but 3 of the 4 phones (3GS, 4, and 4S) are still in service, working perfectly as designed.

We also own 3 laptops...2 are Apple products and one is HP. Guess which one I let my son use for his filmmaking project when they needed to trash a laptop? The HP. I used it for 3 years and retired it because it was trashed and unfixable. The older Apple laptop I have has been in use for 3 years and is still like the day I bought it. I just got a MacBook Air and I see many years of service out of this one as well.

We also have 4 desktop computer systems...1 Apple and 3 PCs. The Apple is going strong after 2 years. 2 of the 3 PCs won't work at all (my computer guru son says they are beyond fixing up.) So they just sit there taking up space. The only operational PC we have at all is for my husband, who is a hold out. And guess which machine will cause us the most trouble over time?

So in conclusion, I like Apple because, as they say, it just WORKS. I didn't pay 3 times as much for the Apple products as I would've for other comparable products. I'm sure I paid more, but since I don't have to keep replacing them, I think it is value for my money.

This is simple to defeat in any court room. All you have to do is put the burden of proof back on Apple that it is a zero length swipe. Last I saw on my smartphone I had to move my finger past a zero length(more like 2 inches). So you make Apple prove that you never move your finger to swipe. Now how is Apple going to prove that?

Ponder away....easily defeated....

Yes, of course, that's why it costs 30000 a year to go to university...

Really depends upon what school you are going to, and what expenses you're factoring in. Sure - if you want to go live in a dormatory - it's going to be expensive as hell.

I can get a 4-year education on about the same as your stated 1 year of education from one of the top rated engineering schools in the world. Because I know how to utilize a thing called a community college and realize that school is not the be-all.

It doesn't help that the government pays for just anyone to go to college under the blatantly false assumption that it will do them some good. I can't tell you how many people I've seen filling out a FAFSA for a masters of performing arts (or having changed their major for the fifth year in a row).

College has become the arbitrary thing to do after highschool. It's lost its purpose. It's like the Warfare Pins in the Navy - completely useless after they started mandating all E-5 have them. The vast majority of the people with their pins can't tell you the first thing about aviation, surface, expeditionary, etc warfare - they just did what they had to do to make the board (if their command didn't gundeck the pin to begin with). They aren't sources of expertise on the subject (what the pin is supposed to represent).

It's gotten the same with degrees.

It's just the tip of the iceberg... Americans are just plain dumb...

People are just plain dumb. Reflective surfaces should serve as an adequate demonstration.

Usually, the job you can do is the job you want to do...

I can wash dishes.
I can do data entry on computers.
I can work the fields of a farm.
I can pleasure a woman.

Some of those things I want to do. Some of those things I will do because it's necessary - but I also have goals that extend far beyond those simple tasks. I would like to engineer the first (or at least the most successful) orbital manufacturing systems and logistics chains.

I want that. A lot.

Socialism and communism, however, would have me doing what an agency deems necessary, and have me receiving an income deemed appropriate.

It's not about the house you want, it's about having a house at all...

It is about the house I want.

I don't want to live in a place that doesn't tickle my pickle. I will accept living in places I'd rather not while working to afford a place I want (hence going on deployment... I don't like the desert - it sucks... whoever decided to establish civilization here suffered a serious lapse of judgment).

If I'm not going to be allowed to get a place I want - or pursue such goals/ideals... then I really don't care too much for your plan. Why should I help you accomplish what you want if I can't accomplish what I want?

The middle class is starting to be washed out and it's not able to live in a comfortable house...

You realize that socialism and communism both mandate the removal of the middle class. You end up with a ruling class and a working class.

You can't use the shrinking of the middle class to attack the current system when the objective of socialism (which the U.S. is a socialist state in practice - just because individuals are stated to own businesses doesn't change the fact that the government has demonstrated it has the authority to make arbitrary laws affecting any level of business function and policy) is the elimination of the middle class.

The people are being squeezed out and the rich are getting richer...

Which is exactly how Marx said a society should impose communism. By eliminating the middle class - the idea of communism is appealing to those looking to survive in economic uncertainty. They can be convinced to rally against those with income and undermine established political powers in doing so.

It's kind of funny. Both the U.S. and Russia lost the cold war. Russia collapsed into a capitalist economy and the U.S. is collapsing into socialism with inertia toward communism.

All experiences vary with mass produced equipment. Check the Apple forums. There really are just as many people having hardware problems with Apple as there are PC equipment problems. I have PC's that are 10 years old and are still going strong and will do just about anything my new Windows PC will do except games because some of them runs Linux. I have a PC that runs Snow Leopard 10 as well as any Mac. It's a 3 year old PC laptop. One of my 10 year old machines runs Windows 98 SE. Another old machine is used for a hardware firewall - best type of firewall you can have. My wife uses a 10 year old Windows XP machine that is 64 bit, has 4 gigs of ram and a 2 gig video card. If something does break beyond repair, it's just a component like a memory stick or hard drive and these are easily replaceable for cheap. heck even a motherboard or power supply for the older PC's are cheap. The secret to keeping these machines running is good maintenance to be sure they don't clog with dirt and dust on the inside and keeping the OS clean and protected from potential virus's.

I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts those old PC machines can be made to work again cheaply and powerfully with the right Linux system or tweaked for resource usage Windows OS. Perhaps even run Tiger.

Btw, Apple first stole the windows like prototype from Xerox then Microsoft stole it from Apple and developed it further. Apple nor Microsoft is blameless in this matter.
