A coronal hole won't knock out satellites, especially ones designed to observe such things...

Having said that, I can't seem to get the SOHO, SDO or STEREO sites to load.

So thats it. Some websites are down.

And what is a "red alert" supposed to mean anyway????

I just tried a number of sites - solarimg.org... www.solarham.net... sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov... sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov... etc. Photos won't load on non ".gov" sites.

The ".gov" sites won't load at all.
Hmm.

This is the website mentioned in the video:
solarimg.org... Have no idea how reliable is it.

Seems serious, here is a comment from a youtube viewer:

Just checked SOHO.NASA, Helioviewer, Goddard, and SDO sites. They are all offline, Goddard says they are operating under a CODE RED, non-essential employees are not to report to work until further notice

I'll watch this thread.

Edit: nevermind, someone already post it.

That's interesting... as someone already mentioned it could be that the servers are down, I actually thought the same thing. However, nasa.gov seems to work fine and all those links your provided are sub-domains of nasa.gov. I'm pretty sure that the main nasa.gov domain wouldn't work if it was because of downed servers, the sub-domains typically operate on the same server.

Ok... perhaps the sub-domains are hosted on different servers. It would certainly explain what we are seeing here.

You would need a Massive Solar Flare to shut down most American Made Satellites as they are EMP as well as GAMA Ray...X-RAY...you name it...shielded. Now if you were talking about a giant Coronal Mass Ejection....well then...we would ALL BE SCREWED! Split Infinity
