I'd start downloading porn if I were you.

You seem to be a nice chap, but the sort of guy who'd fall for those scams in a heartbeat, and well, life is too short. Start downloading pron, enjoy a bit of it while you can. Clicking on random exe's on "Looky here son, I founds me a trojans!!" website is like sitting in a church all your life and listening to the guy behind you going "Pssst hey, bud, I'm god.." and falling for it.

"Did you just stick your tongue in my ear?"
"No. I don't have a tongue."
"Whew, that's good, because I don't have an ear!"

when I came back I had a popup on my screen saying a malicious file had been found. mind you, this all looked VERY Windows Official. same symbols, same colors, all that.

That's one of the reasons why I always change something in the default Windows look, as most of those "official looking" windows are hard coded and always show the same thing, like showing the XP look in Windows 7.

Thanks for the warning Ian.

This did make me laugh though because something very similar happened to me once - and I was on ATS

You will probably notice that you have a lot of connections/connection attempts to various sites in various countries. Port scans? I would bet that you got a fake av/downloader trojan. You should save your files and wipe the machine.

When you get the machine clean create an account for yourself with limited priviliges and use that account for everything. Only use an account with admin rights to do maintenance and app installs etc...That and a good antivirus will help a lot.

Start your computer in safe mode (with networking) go to add/remove programs in control panel, find the suspect program, delete, restart.

Or same again but run your anti virus.

This has been popping up on me for the past four days now, OP. I knew ahead of time it was a virus though and have closed the page. It's very annoying not being able to view youtube videos though as that's most of my daily routine lately.
I suppose I'll have to update firefox and get no script if I want to watch youtube again since I'm on IE now. Does anyone think this virus is going away anytime soon so I don't have to install all new programs? I have a slow internet connection here and it's just more work than I'm looking for to watch youtube videos.

It looks like some adverts are just a way of sending some kind of malware, that's probably how they appear on ATS and YouTube.

No, probably not, it's been around for a long time already. Go to bleepingcomputer.com and read up on some forums you will get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Also you can just run combofix on your computer to clean out all the malware.

(Sorry for the bump, but I suppose it's good for this topic to stay in the fore-front so others will know what to do if they encounter this)

I didn't actually have malware on my computer because I did not click anything that came up because I know better. It doesn't matter anyway, I ended up going ahead with downloading the newest version of firefox and getting no script.

When I had enough of pop-up advertisements I got firefox add-on's such as: do not track and adblock plus pop-up. Since the thing you got is actually could be considered as an advertisement, firefox might/will block it in the future. I always on YouTube but never got anything like this. Anyway, firefox will give you additional protection, so it worth to have. In the past I had this thing (that gave you a trouble), but was suspicious and clicked cancel then it started to download, I quickly pulled computer's plug out of the electric socket, then in a minute switched it on again and did full scan.
