Radio shock jock Howard Stern announced today, that in January 2006 he'll take his show and move over to satellite radio provider Sirius, signing a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract. This will put an end to months of speculation that he would make the move, also allowing him to take his show back to what it used to be, before the FCC started the "crackdown", on what is inappropriate for broadcast on the airwaves.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Howard Stern is taking his morning show to satellite radio -- a move sure to give the fledgling subscription radio business a huge shot in the arm.

Calling satellite radio "the next big thing," Stern said on his morning show that commercial radio is no longer a safe haven for shock jocks like him.

Stern's jump, rumored for months, is a big win for Sirius and a major setback to Infinity Broadcasting, also owned by Viacom (VIA: Research, Estimates), industry analysts said.

Howard said " the super bowl last year did us in", and that "he beleives in satellite more than he does radiio".

It was time for him to go. For a long time rumors where that he would just walk away from being a radio personality all together, it's nice to see that he is moving on to what could be bigger and better things with Sirius satellite radio.

Sirius made an announcement that they are very excited about Stern joining them, however they would have to have about 1 million new subscribers sign up just to break even on this deal.

I for one am excited for Stern and this change, I did not want to see him forced off of the air.
