Dear TechUnique,

I am in my early 50s and find it kind of creepy to post my picture for people I do not know. My general belief is to give strangers no more information about me then they need. Perhaps it is partly generational, I didn't grow up using Facebook or MySpace. There is one other reason, I don't know how to even post an avatar, that is why I don't have one and I didn't consider it important to do.

Facebook is "face" friendly .

I wonder "why" a majority of people on Facebook, decide to set their settings on Private ?

Its called preference.

I was curious to what was behind these individual preferences if you didn't catch my drift

Unless you're shy, that's cool.

Exposing oneself physically without the personality attached is not a good idea. Think again.

People have been using pics of themselves on the internet a long time before Facebook

Sometimes under fairly crude circumstances granted.. when you're in Rome.

I think many have posted great reasons, as to why they don't show their face .

Mine ?

Its the one thing I wish to remain private . Ive given enough of my personality to ATS.

I will keep my face "virginity" intact, thank you........

Do you have any idea how many freaks are on this site?

Neither do I really, but why take the chance? ATS isn't a bubble within the 'net

True...
I put my face in facebook and invite friends and family in on my real life.

Here, I'm SLAYER69 "Writer" and that works for me.

The whole point of the site is to unearth secret stuff right? Didn't know it was called ATS so people could play James Bond. But that's kewl.

There are 2 reason I don't do it.

First, the use avatars has a long and honored history; I also believe that avatars can--and some do--reflect more about a member than a photo does.

Second, and because avatars have always been more common, I find it a bit creepy when people use their own photos as their avatars. That's correct: I find it a little creepy and disturbing. I don't know why. It just gives me the shivers....

Really. My viewpoints may not matter to anybody but me, but my husband's coworkers don't need any extra ammunition, and my daughter will probably be pleased that her future boyfriends will not think her mom is weird because "I saw her posting on ATS about Alien probes and Obamacare" last night...

I am a stay at home mom with nothing to hide, but try to think of the "worse case scenario" so I can avoid it!

Interesting view.. but then what are they doing signed up to ATS?

Touche. My husband doesn't go online. EVER. His coworkers would tease him to death if they saw me post about certain things. Not because they don't believe...but because they are all 30/40/50 year old teenage guys.
They LOOK for things to torment each other with.

Then I would have to explain...and it's just too much effort.
I can't make concrete shoes that big!

And yes. I am kidding...about the shoes...sort of...
