My 80 year old Mom just said Obamacare and the Supremes just wrote my death sentence.

She has read many places that for people her age only comfort care will be given, not real health care and she will be left to die if she needs more than a pill.

Mom is 80, teaches beginning computing twice a week at a local community center, teaches children at our place of worship, makes quilts for the poor and needy. She can easily walk a mile at a brisk pace, and because our health care is now out of the hands of Doctors and in the hands of faceless bureaucrats who don't know her she will be denied all but the most basic care.

Her father lived to be 93 and died falling from a ladder while painting a house, her Aunts and Uncles all lived to near 100 in their homes with their minds intact, her mother died in her late 80's and was alert and self sufficient until her sudden death. Her chance of being a productive citizen until her late 90's is high. But now Obama has guaranteed that she could die early and perhaps need a nursing home because she will be denied more than palliative care.

Her father had a non-cancerous stomach tumor removed in his mid 80's and went on to keep working on his properties and doing all the repair and maintenance himself. If Obamacare were in effect he would not have had his surgery and would have died prematurely.

Hope everyone who wanted it doesn't plan to live very long.

See this is what I don't understand about the US healthcare. I speak from a perspective as a UK native and a Dutch resident, so I've seen it in 2 countries.

You give them too much money!

The UK has the National Health Service. All people pay via wages, a few percent. If you break anything, have an accident, need hospital time, all will be provided.

The Netherlands has private, compulsory healthcare. It costs about 1200 euros a year but you will be covered for all basic and life-threatening possibilities such as accident, sickness, hospital time if necessary, etc.

Both systems might charge you for prescriptions you might need but basically, you're done.

Now, I have heard stories of people on here who had simple things like a broken arm walk out with several thousand dollar bills. Or a night stay for a few thousand more. Take back your healthcare, it should never be primarily about profit.

Glad to hear your Mom is still fit and well though.

What if she gets a large stomach tumor like her father did in a few years? She would not be operated on, and end up in a nursing home and then hospice.
When if she got the surgery she would have many more years left to give to the community?

You know as well as I do that one minute you can be healthy and the next poof, something happens - car accident - unknown tumor grows - etc.

I have to agree with you a little bit there. My own grandma passed from complications arising from Alzheimer's. She had great health insurance and a nice lump of money but she was going to pass anyway and all the docs did was keep scheduling her for procedures until she died. This means they got a lot more money out of her than they will from the OP's grandma but in the end. She still died.

We all die. Quality of life deteriorates for everyone at a different level. A 50 yr old friend of mine looks like he'll and his 47 yr old wife looks great. Life is a lottery.

Also, listen to old folks. They've been there

My Mom made the same point. But we agree that the government bureaucrats won't be able much less try to look at individual circumstances. They will make decisions based on cost analysis: cost versus benefit. Anyone who is fully retired will be considered to have 0 benefit to society. So no matter what they do or how they benefit society their value will be 0. Well, there will be exceptions of course, retired politicians will be given unlimited benefit to society.

It will still be out of the doctors hands and in the hands of the government.

You will have the same income requirements to gt it free, so people who are barley making it, but are over the required amount, will have to give up , what? Electricity?

Look at our federal run post office. They are cutting down the amount we have and laying off. They can not run anything rite. This is going to be a mess. People like me , who have multiple heath issues will have to go through hoops now to see the specialist I need, and time is of the essence.

There is no FREE heath care, just REQUIRED health care.

What you say sounds very similar the same s what Rick Santorum was saying about Holland recently.

Old people in Holland are so frightened they wear special bracelets saying they don't want to be euthanised.

That was his claim. I can tell you that everyone here receives the same care, attention and treatment. Old people are not euthanised. Only sick people, after they ask for it and are checked by 2 different doctors specialised in terminal conditions. Both doctors must then agree that to end the patients life is better than prolonging it.

In other words, everyone pays here, regardless of age or employment capabilities. The way it should be. Iget slightly over half of the costs for my insurance reimbursed by the government as I am unemployed and on the lowest income.

I like Obama, but I do not agree with the healthcare bill! I am upset today also! First- Tell youre Mother- Please dont worry! I do not know all the facts about the healthcare, but I do know a few things you can do that will save you and youre family allot of trouble. First- Make sure you transfer youre Mothers home into a family members name, long before she becomes unable to care for herself..I think the rule is 10 years before. Research this..ok

When someone is thrown into a rest home..they lose everything..they eat up everything the person owns..to the point where all is taken. Then the person is put on Government Assistance.

Go with youre Mother to all Doctors Visits- Be careful of everything you say!! Watch out for Social Workers..they may attempt to interview youre Mother and discredit her..this is so that power of attorney can be given to someone over her...research- power of attorney..

The very first step..most important is to transfer all her belongings into another family members name!! My own Grandmother had to sale her own land..piece by piece to buy her Medicine..

You must protect youre Mothers home, so no-one can take it away...you can also set her home up to care for her..there is nothing that they do in a rest-home that you cannot do...the pharmacy will train you on how to give Meds..you can also be trained on how to give shots if needed. The only other pieces of equipment you may need is a lift and walker..maybe O2 later...Research on what Home Health Care Covers..OK..but do it behind the scenes such as on the Internet...I will again stress..be careful and think about what you say to anyone..Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers..and stay off the Grid as much as possible.

I take care of 10 people everyday..sometimes 13..I love them with all my heart. I am in the process of having to fight for Antibotics for all of them!! The Doctor that is over them is refusing to give them Antibotics..they are sick with some type of Resp. Issue. The Doctor makes more money off of every visit that he provides to them..so therefore he drags it out to numerous visits..until finally he will give them the meds that they need..I am also fighting for a re-fill on cream..that a resident needs on a daily basis..they are givning the family a hard time about re-filling it..once again..another doctors visit..more money for just giving a cream...I am also fighting for another resident that needs treatment for her leg..everything has to be worded correctly for the insurance to cover this..and her family member has to fight to get them to cover this..

The reason I am upset about this healthcare bill..page 1001..the RFID ..do not take this..and watch out for any kind of Swine Flu Shot..dont take it!!

I am also upset, because I work in healthcare and cannot afford it! It cost me 360.00 a month to cover me and my child. I only make 10.24 an hour..I come in contact with everything, and even with insurance I cannot even afford the Doctor..much less Dental. I feel things are going to get worse..I do not want to be forced to buy something I dont even want myself!!

Try to take care of youre Mother in her own home..but the most important issue..transfer her home..withdraw all her money from the bank account..put in another family members name..before she becomes sick..

Dont transfer the money from the account..this will leave a record..just withdraw all of it..wait a little while..and then put in another family members account..or buy the equipment she will need for her care at home..or take her on vacation and have fun!! Just dont let the Government get it!! Work around them!! Anything put into account over 10,000 alerts the IRS...bury the money..hide it..whatever..just dont let the Government take everything the women has!

I'm so sorry about your health. We can only hope that it will be repealed.
It is more important than ever to energize people like us to get out the vote and get rid of everyone who voted for or signed this monstrosity.

I am sorry about your mom. My mom, too, is in her 80s and is so upset right now that nothing I say can console her. What the heck is this country coming to?

This is a death sentence for a lot of people, small businesses will go dead because they can't afford the insurance for everyone, underemployed workers who can't afford it will be making a choice as to whether to feed themselves or purchase healthcare. The list goes on and on...

I do believe this is a death sentence for Obama's reelection, too. I can't imagine americans voting for him now!

There IS something WE CAN DO.
Talk to all your friends, blog, FB, get the word out to vote out everyone who voted for Obamacare and signed it.
More now than ever we need to tell people who are upset, there is only one thing left we can do, vote, take our friends to vote, take our collegues to vote, take people who are like minded by the car load to vote.

Watch out for voter fraud and intimidation from the other side, record it and put it on YouTube before anyone can stop you.

Make youtube videos stating your case, use music, poetry, drama, comedy -- just get the word out that voting for the same old Dems just because you like them personally - will contribute to elderly deaths.

She has read this many places but you didn't even give one link? Just from that it makes me think you and her are wrong, and really just want to believe that. It's sort of common sense to provide a link.

Palliative care is only for those that have a doctors "permission" you could say, saying that they only have so long left to live and that options by that point are limited.

And don't forget you may need to fly to another state to get better care,
and find out your on the no fly list.
My fear is the emt's will call in a helicopter to take me to the hospital,
and when it arrives, they will claim, I am on the no fly list.
