The numbers on this site tells us that this is very possible...

Of course war can be because of economics. Wars are generally fought because of land, resources, and religion. Economics falls squarely under the resources category.

when they 'win', they will simply wipe that slate clean as if nothing ever happened, that's where the economics of war take place. the fruits of victory taste ever so sweet. they use the resources they take away from the enemy to make the profit in the next inter-war period until they allow another combatant to step in and repeat.

In what context? Wars have been fought over land and resources since day one. However a big war is also a way of rebooting economies and bringing forth new technology. Look at the advances made in the last major war.

Its a worrying prospect given the state of the economies of the world today. War may be surreptitiously pushed for as an economic solution.

There also does exist a 'war economy'. The arms trade, private military contractors, the military industrial complex. War is big business.

Sad but true.
