A better solution would have been to tax everyone and use it to give everyone free health care. They could have done it under national defense or just expanded medicare and medicaid for everyone.

I agree that is a much better solution! We just need to make change with our current system, I really hope Obamacare leads to your solution, but the republican party wouldn't have ever let that fly off the bat, way to much of a "socialist" change. I could just hear fox news....

I have been to other sites and read some post's and one of them has at least 11K posts about this, All are happy that this has passed, saying its a great day in America, Obama is the best... this site mostly caters to college kids. So at least we know where obama's support is coming from.

I can't help but agree with that assertion. In saying that, we have plenty of people here in Australia that have the same issues with our public health system.

Next up, the tax for breathing air.

Since money is spent to take pollutants out of the air, and we breathe that air, we should have to pay a little bit of money for said air.

recessions don't last forever...so based on your logic this will be pretty good once the economy goes forward

I believe this will drive down medical cost, as it has in Massachusetts

Because you can think straight and realize the joke that is defending healthcare profiteers who simply don't want competition, and for prices to go down.

Coup de grâce would be for Obama to give amnesty to 15 plus million illegal aliens, AND give them Obamacare. What's an extra trillion here or there it's just paper.....or will be just paper...

okay, so I found out I have cancer, tell me, please, how does this do me any good if I don't have the $$$ to pay what the insurance won't for the treatment?? go, check how much it would cost to treat cancer. I have an extra insurance policy just in case this happens that I pay myself!! It wouldn't affect our budget that much!! but I betcha it would put your finances well beyond the gutter!

It's a carrot on a stick...you will not get the care that your extra insurance would provide....As I said the plan was to make healthcare totally unaffordable out of pocket and then say socialized healthcare is the only way. It is a great plan except for a large part of the world CAN afford GOOD healthcare out of pocket....

I remember the days when in america men were free.......

I am a fan of so many of you spouting nonsense today... makes me sad. Free country, you're entitled to your opinion. Talk about freedom to the countless people who have lost everything due to our health care system. What a joke!

Why do people always say "free health care" Well its free to those who don't pay taxes....

And that isn't even the point...I'm going to be forced to give up my really great healthcare for this crappy one....that is the point, I don't need it, but they felt it needed to be a mandate to the point they will tax me if I don't use it....

Is there anyone here that sees any sense in that?

if it's a tax then why do you have to purchase insurance.

if you pay the fine, (excuse me chief justice, "tax".) then you should automatically get coverage.

you don't.

this is the complete opposite of what every western industrialized nation does. they tax you, and then they give you healthcare.

in america, they tax you and you're where you started in the first place, with no healthcare.

That's the theory I heard, Marg, that Roberts is playing a game of chess with this. He is labeling the Dems with the big scarlet "T" for tax...it's a dangerous game if that's what he is doing.

Very dangerous game indeed, but now Obama is the father of the biggest tax creation in history...put that in your pipe and smoke it....lol

So let me get this straight, I will have more taxes taken out to pay for my medical needs and everyone Else's medical needs even if they aren't paying taxes themselves.

So in a sense I just added 350 million people to my insurance benefits at my place of work? So even though Joe Blow eats a buffet once or twice a day smokes in-between breathes and drinks as much as he breathes I am expected to help cover the cost via taxes of his insanely self-destructive lifestyle and obvious inevitable medical intervention costs?

saweeeeet

Ever heard of the law of averages? Maybe all of ripped healthy Americans will lower you bill.

The only silver lining in this is it doesnt fully go into effect until 2014 - It will be repealed by then.. I am going to predict a major turnover in Congress with people running and being voted in on repealing this.

I hope you're right....

We have been listening to the people who work in the medical field and a majority are against the HC bill. One of the main reasons given was right now, our country is short handed on doctors as is. So if this does go through, the waits will be longer, not only in the ER but also for surgeries as well. Over all, the system won't be able to handle the flow of people that normally wouldn't come in plus the regular patients. There will be a tremendous increase in people going to the doctors now.

Personally I think they should have gotten a large group of doctors/nurses in the medical field to put their own input on the issue being as they can speak from personal experience as to what to do or not to do. They are the ones in the know.

Back in the day when the doctor made a house visit...did the doc pull out some insurance form? Was the family unable to pay out of pocket? I would say NO to both....

How did we get where we are today in such a should period of time? Sad....

But is it worth it? Now we have this Scotus decision that sets a precedent to force us to buy anything....I can't believe he would do that.

Nothing is free we all know that.
But we are social creatures that rely on one another.
Would you rather sell yourself to a for profit corporation or just pool resources amongst your fellow man to take care of one another.

maybe I am wrong, but it seems that he may have just assured a republican win for the upcoming elections....
this might even convince me to vote for the republicans, although I have some doubt if romney would do anything about it.. I mean, he was the the originator of the framework for obamacare, wasn't he?

but if that is it, that he's was mainly trying to boost romney's chances...
well...he made the decision on purely political motives. irregardless to the laws. if this was to be found to be true, I would say that he should be removed from the bench!!

Doesn't matter. The Republican "front runner" is the same guy who PIONEERED this mess in his own state. Do you really think I'm going to trust him to "fix" it?

No ma'am. In Colt I trust, not Romney.

I don't think so.....

Let's say this helps 10% of the population....that is 30 mil or so...it takes about what, 50 mil votes to win with the number of people who just do not vote. I think Obama just won his election....add in 10 mil more votes off his amnesty/program....

His formula last time was to promise everything to those who are not willing to get it themselves.
I still remember one reporter asking a woman why is she voting for Obama, and she said "Obama is going to buy me a house" AND believed every word of it...

Obama is pulling it again with Obamacare and his illegal alien stance....both will end up the same as the girl who never got the house...
