Syria general and two colonels 'defect to Turkey'

www.bbc.co.uk

Several high-ranking Syrian military figures have defected to Turkey, reports in Turkish media say.

A general, two colonels, two majors and about 30 other soldiers are said to have crossed into Hatay province on Sunday night.

They were part of a group of some 200 people who crossed the border overnight into Monday, Anatolia news agency says.

Do they know something??

Have the pilots of the airplane that was shot down been captured and shot?
Will they ever find the pilots?

Do these Syrian army officials believe that someone is going to get mighty upset real soon and is this the reason they've bailed out?

This happened ahead of the emergeny NATO meeting that will be held tomorrow.

Has some information been passed on by these defectors that has tipped the scales to urge on this emergency meeting?

I fear for the pilots tbh, have done ever since they said they were looking for them.

Due to the amount of time Syria has been playing its little game, what you've said is almost a guarantee..

I'm sure many have left for the exact same reason, plus self preservation kicking in too.
But I'd like to know what these guys know.. Have they some knowledge about the pilots or something else.. Just seems odd that they've done this and then an emergency NATO meeting is being called.

To the best of my knowledge, a meeting like this over an airplane being shot down would have come a lot sooner or could have even been dealt with via video linking conference or something..

But combine the plane and these guys defecting, then there may be a lot more to this than we know at this time.

If you were to walk down a street in Damascus...you would see storefronts with signs that said....Hamas Recruitment Center or Islamic Jihad Office. It will be interesting to see what becomes of these entities after Syrian Leadership Jumps Ship.

During the Second Iraq War when the Syrian Leader was allowing the firing of weapons over the boarder at U.S. Forces that had just completely invaded Iraq. Assad Jr. was warned to have this stop...he made a statement to the effect that he was not afraid of the U.S. Military and would do what he pleased.

A second warning was issued in no uncertain terms...Either stop the weapons fire or we will Invade Syria. The Weapons Fire stopped a few minutes later.

It will be also interesting to see if the E.U. actually takes care of a problem in their own back yard as I do not wish to see...or end up there myself...U.S. Troops in Syria although the U.S. could provide many informational aspects.

Interesting turn of events.

My guess is that those officers and soldiers were given orders that conflicted with standard human morality, or that they were simply tired of the regime's shenanigans in this conflict.

Hamas has quit Syria.

And after doing so, supported the opposition. This happened on Feb 2012, right before leadership change with internal elections.

Israel exploited the situation in the media, but kept the terrorist label, friends for a week. What a funny thing.

They are probably tired of conducting operations against their own citizens and don't want to hang for it when the regime falls.

And you blindly ignore CIA, Muslim Brotherhood, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey arming opposition and conducting the overthrow.

Christians are being murdered by your loved opposition forces.

We'll likely see more pilots defecting in the next few days.

If Assad is dumb enough to let them fly anyway. After that Colonel defected in his jet last week I'd bet they're keeping those planes in locked hangers.

If Assad really cared for those christians he would be giving all of them armed escorted evacuations to the borders a long time ago. Instead he shoots across the border into Turkey to kill the fleeing refugees. So what choice does anyone have over there that put their lot in with Assad's regime to protect them? They cannot flee and they cannot last any longer than he does. A scene played out many times throughout history, nothing new under the sun to see in Syria.

Rats have always abandoned a doom ship. First a fighter pilot and now these guys. I think they being on the inside of the regime may know something many Assad supporters here don't

And i am sure you wouldn't mind rats who are Islamists to take over from the over.

by the US Dept. of State, country's profile.

"After the Hama uprising, the Islamist insurrection was broken, and the Brotherhood has since operated in exile while other factions surrendered or slipped into hiding. Government attitudes in Syria hardened considerably during the uprising, and Assad would rely more on repressive than on political tactics for the remainder of his rule, although an economic liberalization began in the 1990s"

Wonderful we are helping to create another Islamist insurrection to take place. Funny that they mentioned the Brotherhood i guess they didn't want to mention the the Muslim Brotherhood by name for obvious reasons.

is there any proof from the Syrian government that they did infact defect?

how hard would it be to create a synthetic mask of the general and 2 colonels for some look a likes to don and march around for media photographers, meanwhile they are sitting tied up in a homemade bunker somewhere in the outskirts damascus, who knows lol.

Funny that your blaming Assad for the Christians and claim that his been he shoots across the border into Turkey to kill the fleeing refugees.

don't you ever read any news source that members here post here or do you just troll away?

I'm no fan of the MB [Far from it actually] but

You say "Muslim Brotherhood" as if it's something very few in that part of the world supports. The fact remains that if they didn't have support from the people [Never mind the US/West] there wouldn't be anybody at their rallies. Meanwhile they're huge.

If the Syrians or anybody else for that matter choose to be a part of that potential disaster that's up to them.
