Holy cow, how it is annoying that the few times I get on my facebook to check in with my military buddies, I have to stroll through 50 pictures people have shared and/or posted that describe their lives and their feelings. And I don't even have that many people on my page.

Is this the new thing to do to be cool on FB now? Are people tired of the stupid games and now have moved on to this insane crapola. I think un-originality is to blame. People have become to lazy to think for themselves so they allow a photo with a stupid caption to do it for them.

It wouldn't seem so dumb if it was a once in a while thing but when you get on and the same person has posted ten or twenty in a row it's just stupid. Ok rant over. I am sure however that this probably strikes a little nerve with others as well.

You're not alone, it's one of the reasons I left facebook.

I wasn't annoyed. I was disappointed. I think the problem lies with our brains and intelligence. Apart from the lucky few geniuses on the planet, we aren't capable of truly original thought. Everything we think or imagine is a mishmash of previous experience. The problem arises in that people are raised to believe that they are truly unique/special/gifted. Especially with the internet giving us access to almost unlimited possibilities and experience, people just pick up on things that they think they could have done/made.

Nobody has any genuine achievements to share anymore so they simply attach themselves to things that appeal to them.

Society is going downhill and facebook is, in part, to blame.

Peace out.

p.s. i love rant threads

This isn't meant to be any kind of attack on you or anyone else, just a real question.

I too have noticed this and at first I thought it a pain when really the only reason I am on at all(once every few days) is to see what my Family is doing. Now I use it for harvesting funny pictures for this thread.. www.abovetopsecret.com...

My wife set mine up after I left the military so we could all stay in touch. That is the only thing I do on it. The list of locals on my page is dwindling as they seem to be the main culprits. I really don't get it either though. I only check mine a few times a month just to see what is going on with the fellas.

Could not have said it better myself. I also like rant threads although I prefer to read them as to writing them.

Funny pics is one thing, or work you do yourself, but when someone posts dozens of someone else's work with someone else's words it is just annoying. I don't even pay attention to the game requests. I don't even get many of those.

I agree with you then! My ex was a huge culprit. Also the staus shuffle crap. My ex for example. They use an app called status shuffle that makes random statuses for them. Really? Cant make your own up? Wtf?

I ways saw Facebook people as attention seekers and social conformists.

A little off topic but...
Ladies, I always wondered when I used to have a Facebook why all the girls would post the same picture stances...duckface, sitting on the sink, having Ur back against the camera looking back at it, there's many more....I don't understand why ??

edit on 24-6-2012 by ElOmen because: (no reason given)

Do you mean that you don't understand the appeal of facebook? I think it's pretty simple, having seen firsthand what facebook addiction (a ridiculous term) is. I honestly think that people are subconsciously deluded in to believing that their lives have meaning. This then drives them to see what other are doing and to copy that behaviour so that they aren't left behind or seem inferior. All ego whether they know it or not.

It's all driven by by the idea that their lives have so much value that they have to share it with others.

I think there are a lot of people who enjoy the experience and do use it to make friends, share things with their friends, but most use it dysfunctionaly to share anything and everything with a world that they think wants to know.

It's madness

I hate when people on facebook tell me im ugly. Guess what, i dont give a northbound rats southern end what they think about me....

And then theres fat chicks that crop pics to nothing but their face to hide the fat. Uhm, we can tell your fat just by the fact you did that!

When I get on facebook, I actually enjoy seeing a couple of funny pictures here and there. Makes it easier to tolerate all the dramatic posts and pictures of peoples dinner. Some of the stuff people re-post is annoying...and it's usually the same person over and over. You have 2 choices. 1. delete the offending friend or facebook all together.
2. Just keep scrolling and don't pay to much attention to the pictures, or at least the ones with captions.
At least it beats invitations to Crapville.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm more of a secret squirrel type so I suppose thats why it doesnt appeal to me. I can kinda understand OP's usage for keeping in touch with his military buddys though.

Yeah it does seem like an amazing tool for keeping in touch with people, but whatever happened to email or letters huh?

I was on facebook and before that, bebo. When bebo started it was brilliant. You selected your school/college/uni and then you could speak to everyone at that institution. It's sad, but it quickly changed in to what facebook is now.

It's sad the way things are going
