Edwards. Unlike Chaney, Edwards answered every challenge and did not shrug anything off. Chaney came off a bit arrogant.

He didnt crush Edwards but he won.

I didn't understand why Cheney was so soft on Edwards being a trial lawyer. He was given plenty of opportunity to attack Edwards. However, he didn't seem to be interested in doing that. I found it surprising how little mention was made of either Bush or Kerry during the debate.

A few times during the debate, Cheney had no real way to respond, and so he just had to say I stand on my record. I think the hardest thing for Cheney was to address the Defence of Marriage amendment, which it doesn't seem he really believes in. Also, when Cheney had to address his lobbying in favor of trading with Iran, he seemed to have a difficult time arguing against his own position. I could really see it was kind of hard for Cheney to argue against the policies he supported, although I guess he has to follow the Republican politburo like all the other good Republicans.

People have claimed Cheney is really running things in the Bush administration, but it didn't seem that way from the debate. Cheney seemd a bit hesitant about Bush's policies at times. What was going on there? Is it really true that Bush doesn't care about policy, and that he only cares about politics?

I'm a Republican... but I know that Bush lost last week (badly)...


That being said...

I think Cheney dominated that debate at every level. He was cool, disciplined, on point, and NEVER resorted to lame 'feel good' moments or anything resembling class warfare (like Edwards).

Most importantly... Cheney had his facts and argument together. The big moment, I believe, was when he got Edwards on the casualty list numbers. It underscored the observation that the Dems have ignored that the point of this war, now, is to bring democracy to Iraq. By ignoring the Iraqi casualties, Edwards came across as being unconcerned about the Iraqi need for a free state.

Another good moment was the part where Cheney said (to paraphrase) "I've been the President of the Senate for three years... I'm there most Tuesdays... I met you for the first time tonight..."

While Edwards gave much hope

I think both men did very well, were intelligent, articulate and what a welcome relief from the Bush fiasco a few days ago.
I dont agree with Cheney, I want him gone, but he's intelligent, poised, (is this me saying this?) and he was low key, something i've never seen of him before.

I think it was a draw (Is this really me saying this?)

I would say it was even. Both men did quite well. I'll give Edwards credit though he went up against a man who is very good at what he does. He's been in the game for quite sometime. imo And as far as the polls go they mean nothing. They don't poll enough people to show what the country thinks as a whole. imo

Next, explain to me exactly why trial lawyers are such anathema when they argue their case, and it is the judge and the jury which decides the outcome?

Finally, why blame the trial lawyers for the outrageous awards in a system where capitalism is next to Godliness?

Not a doubt Cheney won this debate. Edwards has been the invisible man from the start- I think by advise of the Kerry team of incompetents. In the end though there really wasn't a competition, the evening belonged to Cheney and I don't even like him.

I think pretty boy will have to keep missing meetings after the November elections.

It's hard to decide...Cheney was clearly more composed and comfortable...although I don't agree with many of his strategies and beliefs; he had them all well lined out and ready to serve...

Edwards seemed far too intent on personally attacking his opponent - almost as though that was one of his primary objectives...but at the same time, he addressed many questions and filled in some details from where Kerry left off...

Both men put on their punching gloves early and started pointing fingers and saying that what the other candidate said about what they said they had said was not true....lol...a debate goes nowhere with ignorance like this about, and I think Cheney wore the big boy pants and simply stopped addressing those issues later in the debate...

It was almost a "flip-flop," so to speak, in the performance...the bumbling country democrat and the astute and well-prepared republican - the presidential debate was clearly vice versa...

But I cannot effectively narrow it down to team A or B...both had their weaknesses and both their pluses...in terms of party platform, Edwards had me...but Cheney's persona and straight-forward attitude was more admirable...

But what do I know? The pundits are crushing Cheney and taking him to task on contradictions. And the PEOPLE love Edwards.

The narrative tomorrow will be Cheney held his own, but Edwards won.

That's all that matters.

What makes it worse is Cheney even out performed his BOSS. Making Bush look even more horrbile and ill prepared in retrospect. Not good for his Leadership numbers.

Oh, and he didnt have a defibrilator on standby in the back just in case. I think you need to take health into account. Cheney is unreliable.

Change my undecided vote to Edwards. I could have been wrong, but MSNBC just proved me right. They showed one clip (though again, not the clip I'm referring to) where Cheney said that Iraq was essentially the heartland in the war on terror. So yes, he couldn't even get thru his first question without lying. The fact that that one of his stinging comments (about never meeting Edwards before tonight) was yet another lie, emphasizes who won even moreso for me. When confronted with tough accusations, Bush sits there dumbfounded, and Cheney lies. I've been lied to enough over the past four years, it's time we hear the truth. Instead, Cheney just gave us more lies.

I applaud him for being able to lie to Americans so blatently, with such a calm demeanor. Unfortunately, that doesn't win you a debate. I change my vote to Edwards now that some of Cheney's lies have been uncovered on a national scale.
