Ghengis Khan, can you imagine what that would be like? Being the first person to lay your eyes on a legend from History. We would be able to see what he died from, reconstruct his face and actually look on the face of a legend!
I wish the would find Alexander the Greats tomb, now that would be something as well.

Why did they want his location to not be found.

Most of the known world would have loved to place his head on a pike even if it was dead already. He was a powerful nasty piece of work and the fear and loathing would continue to grow if no corpse were produced.

Also, ya just don't want the living digging you up and ripping you off.

It is surprising how people perceive the mongols. They did not force people to accept their culture. When ever they conquered a culture, they left it in place. They didn't care what religion you believed in. If anything they brought peace to the regions they conquered.

They did not force people into slavery or starved people with tributes to them. No one was forced to build vast temples in their name nor were they interested in hoarding treasures.

OK, so they found it. I say go as far as you need to verify as least that this is most likely the place, then leave it alone. Walmart is in trouble for digging up bodies, and we all know that if you or I went and dug up a recent Greve, we be in almost as if not deeper than the coffin we just unearthed. HIstory is in some instances is just that, done and gone. Leave the man in peace. What are they going to do like they did with King Tut? parade a corpse and treasure? Its rude and disrespectful. I hope Ghengis had a curse put on his tomb as well, maybe if a few things happen that modern science couldnt explain, people might be more willing to find, but leave in peace and not go digging everyone up. I know i wouldnt like it if say my local court house burned down, and all the grave stones in the local cemetary were vandalised so someone came along and said dig it all up, we dont know whos there, so lets just dig randomly and find out, you never know, we might uncover the burial site of some long lost great leader/scientist/porn star. Great discovery? yes, but its a RESTING PLACE, let him rest in peace or in hell, whichever place took him in.

Justanotherperson, that is not entirely true, though the Khan's did bring peace and stability to some regions, much of this came from ruthless war fair. The Mongols were know to sack cities, completly burn them to the ground, slaughter the women and children, and are even suspected of having practiced cannabilism. There are economist and historians out there today that blame the Mongol envasion (as well as the Huns, Visigoths, and several others) as the sole proprietor as to the piss poor economy of Eastern Europe.

I'm currently 2/3 rds into a book about the Kahn. They were some rough dudes. At the beginning of his reign, he would leave people behind to run the overtaken place- because he realized that they could provide materials and wealth if they existed. And if you even looked like you weren't gonna accept the Kahns rule, killed (simple).
But towards the end of his reign, oh boy. After ransacking and pilaging through a city, they would return 2-3 days later to kill any survivors which had escaped them. They became ruthless and rich!
I think it's the RICHES they're after, the hords of wealth they took must have been incredible, not to mention the 'tributes' they would have recieved from conquered lands.
