You can carry on with that same naive, wishful thinking that you demonstrate all over ATS, and maybe when the bombs start to drop you'll have managed to convince yourself that it's just a firework celebration to commemorate the day when you were the voice of reason in an online world gone mad.

Back here in the REAL world, we are poised on the brink - anyone with half a brain stem can see that this COULD turn very nasty, relatively quickly. But as another poster said above, these things in fact take a little bit of time to organise, logistically speaking. A month (or a bit less) seems a reasonable timescale for it to either go fully South, with a SHTF situation in the Middle East, later extending to the rest of us, or - as you say - 'simmer down'.

I believe it will go South - because certain people in certain places WANT it to go South. But yeah - here's hoping it doesn't, for all our sakes.

Well we will see who is right.I'll be back in a few days when nothing still has happened to confirm it. Its not called being naive, its called being right....like i am 100% of the time on ATS when it comes to predictions.

You have a high opinion of yourself bubba.

So let's see... Two or more people have stated in-thread that they believe it will take around a month for anything to kick off properly in the Middle East.

And you're going to be back in a few days to check on whether you were right or not, concerning your 'nothing will happen' prediction.

x 1000

Someone needs to examine their faculties a little closer before spouting off about how they are 'always right' on ATS, '100%' of the time, no less...

I've just decided that I probably won't respond to you any more, seeing as you're finding it hard to keep up with concepts such as days, weeks and months.

Bless you for trying though. And for the sake of curiosity, why did you choose that screen name?

You know what? I heard that MONTHS ago. And you know what else? I heard it MONTHS before that as well. Ive heard of attacks on Iran "next week" for months/years now. Ive heard of imminent "No fly zones" for Syria for MONTHS now.

So just countinue the ATS popular theme of "just wait it takes a month". With the law of averages one day MAYBE somone on here will be right but sorry-it aint this time.

Pretty sure they didnt know it was a Turkish airplane

turkey was probably doing a reconaisance flight

If that plane was from the US .. we would be in war now

Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that an attack on one member is an attack on all... The fact that Turkey is now in crisis meetings with NATO too under article 4 suggests that any apology will be met with deaf ears.. Especially after the shelling from Syria over the last few days..

Hope you are wrong

Turkey should grow some balls and be like russia and china opposed to any military invasion

It's not that easy... they're now stuck with a despotic government that does NATO's bidding, and they've got a long history of serving the West.

In another important development, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has asked for appointments from the leaders of the other three main political parties in the Turkish Parliament on Sunday in order to explain the details of the incident and discuss the matter, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced.

This is an unusual move and has caused speculation about a possible parliamentary decision which is a requirement for any foreign military action according to the Turkish Constitution. “We are not considering a military action now,” a source told the Daily News. “But we want to inform the opposition and we want to keep all options open.”

I hope you are right, but everyone with a bit of brainpower can see what is happening here..

It is almost cold waresque...

I trained to fight this type of war in a role called the ACE Mobile force whose job is to defend the flanks of Europe from a Soviet invasion.. We were the Arctic warriors and mountain troops.. Very specialised and worked with all countries in NATO... Our southern flank is of course Turkey to which we also had exercises on huge scales.. This scenario is straight out of the exercise scenario handbook being played right before our eyes..

Im praying for cool heads and a tactical climb down, but I can assure you this will not go away in a few days.. The military hardware is already making its way to theatre... And it is not a drill...

Right 100% of the time? Oh you mean like how you stated 'a fact' that the US has 13 Aircraft Carriers? When intact they only have 11?

Get real, son. Anyone with half a brain can see that things are becoming very dangerous in and around the Middle East. We have Turkey and Saudi Arabia aiding the terrorists in Syria, CIA and mossad training 'Freedom Fighters' and the US calling for Assad's removal. Then we have Russia, China, Syria and Iran who are planning a massive war game (largest the Mid East has ever seen) that involves over 90,000 troops, 900+ Tanks, 400 aircraft, 12 Chinese Destroyers, 3 Russian Destroyers and a Russian Air Craft carrier.

# is going down, for better or for worse.

Really? Just misinformation? Then how come Egypt has reported 12 Chinese Destroyers passed through the Sues canal? And Pakistani intelligence has reported the Russian Black Sea Fleet is moving towards Syria? And that a Russian Air Craft Carrier and Submarines are supposedly heading to meet up with the Chinese ships?

I think the 'war games' is just a front to have a force in the region for what SHTF.

Worrying for nothing? We arent talking about the end of the world, or some Nibiru speculation here, my friend.

This is a varitable powder keg of a situation. The Middle East has been in turmoils beyond imagination, hundreds and sometimes thousands dying during a day. The political situation is REGIME CHANGE. Thats a big deal.

Add to all that NATO, and the allied interest in Syria, along with the fact that Putin is great friends with the syrian government, and the chinese.... And all the other nations that conveniantly have an interest in seeing western society fail..... Wake up.

Things havnt been this tense since the cold war in terms of the involvement of th Bear and the Dragon. We dont want to start that battle... It wouldnt end until the bombs dropped.

The entire situation in the middle east has the potential to bring every adavanced, armed nation into yet another world war.

As I see it, NATO have just probed Syria's brand spanking new Russian supplied (S-400?) missile defence system with what appears to have been an (ancient) RF-4 Phantom......Talk about lamb to the slaughter!

There still appears to be some doubt over the location of the Turkish pilots, which I find somewhat surprising.....I'd have expected an emergency locator beacon to have activated automatically when they ejected.

Did the RF-4 fireball before they could eject?

Or is it possible that the aircraft concerned was in fact a QF-4 Drone?

The QF-4 is a remotely controlled target, which simulates enemy aircraft maneuvers. The drone can be flown by remote control or with a safety pilot to monitor its performance. The drone is flown unmanned when missiles are fired at it, and only in specific over-water airspace authorized for unmanned flight. When flown unmanned, an explosive device is placed in the QF-4 to destroy the aircraft if it inadvertently becomes uncontrollable.

The QF-4 is equipped to carry electronic and infrared countermeasures to fully evaluate fighters and weapons flown and fired against it. Full-scale drone aircraft can be flown totally by computer using the Gulf Range Drone Control System, or controlled manually during takeoff and landing using a mobile control station located at the drone runway. As a safety precaution, a chase plane trails the drone during critical periods of flight.

This would pretty much cover all the facts.....The aircraft was operating over water, the second plane mentioned in some reports could be the 'chase-plane' and of course a drone of this type would be just the thing for gathering ELINT data on the Syrian's new toy (by the simple expedient of getting shot down by it).

This whole thing is 'Honkin of Tonkin' if you ask me!

This is a long thread so, please excuse me for asking questions already asked.
I see in news articles that both contries are working together to search for the downed plane. I also read that both sides want to keep a cool head about the situation.
So, are they in agreement that this was a mistake and is the apology accepted?
Or is Turkey still considering making a retaliatory action?
