Turkey says warplane lost off Syria

(Reuters) - Turkey said on Friday it had lost contact with one of its military aircraft while it was over the sea off the southeastern coast, and a television station said it had crashed in Syrian territorial waters.

the article goes on to say

Pro-Iranian Al-Mayadeen television station, which is based in Lebanon, quoted what it said were Turkish sources as saying a jet had been shot down by Syrian air defenses near the border with Turkey. There was no confirmation of that report.

I certainly hope this is not true,as it would be a serious escalation to the ongoing problems in
this region.

Germany, Japan, and Korea are still using F-4s. It's a good airframe. Turkey's primary fighter is the F-16, with some older aircraft still in service, just like the US, and every other military.

Why would it be an escalation?

Turkey already escalated by sending jets into Syrian airspace, Syria has every right to shoot them down.

The last German airframes will be retired this year, Japan is buying F-35s through 2020 and possibly beyond, and Korea just bid their F-X program, to replace their F-4s, which means theirs will be in service for several more years. I haven't heard anything about when Turkey plans to replace their airframes.

It is told that the plane was going to bombard some Syrian cities.

But the plan was more complicated.

There are kits and codes installed on training warplanes which indicates that plane as training plane on the radar. So that the control tower will not indicate it as a enemy warplane. That codes is unique , top secret and impossible to get in every country.

Some days before the crash , there was a Syrian training pilot who escaped his training and ran to Jordan.

In Jordan they managed to get the kit of Syrian training airplanes.

The transferred the kit to Turkey by an Israeli jet.

Then they installed the kit on Turkish warplane.

Then that Jet was going to be bombard Syrian cities without being spotted by Syrian air defense. And then every one was going to blame it on Bashar Asad.

But the whole plan was a failure.

So , Syria is doing more investigation on plain ,

Erdogan has lost credit once more.

But I can not find more evidence.

Uhm, no there aren't. There are IFF codes that are used to identify a plane on radar, but there is no "training" code. It's accepted practice that when you penetrate someone else's airspace, you warn them first, instead of just shooting at them. There is no such thing as a "training code" being transmitted. There are codes that can be used to identify your own planes to defenses, but they change daily, or even hourly. Turkey would know this and wouldn't try to use older codes.
