U.N. investigator decries U.S. use of killer drones

A U.N. investigator has called on the Obama administration to justify its policy of assassinating rather than capturing al Qaeda or Taliban suspects, increasingly with the use of unmanned drone aircraft that also take civilian lives.

Christof Heyns, U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, urged Washington to clarify the basis under international law of the policy, in a report issued overnight to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The 47-member Geneva forum is to hold a debate later on Tuesday.

Drone warfare is a cowardly way to carry out operations, and IMO there is no need for it. Many of you say that the "terrorists" hide among woman and children, but these are just people who live in their village with their families. What gives Obama the right to decide who fits the "terrorist" profile when if you look up the definition, he is a terrorist himself.

Regrettably nothing ever comes from these UN investigations so Obama will probably not even acknowledge this report. Only when drones start raining hellfire on American citizens will people finally wake up to the horrors of drone warfare.

I bet they do decry their use.

They decry the Nukes and the Fuel-Air Explosives and the Cluster Bombs.

But the UN won't stop encouraging non-state actors from acting as if they are states.

Someone must have sent a message to the UN to let them know those Drones are wreaking havoc and cannot be responded too and to please make the US stop.

People that start wars and then find themselves unable to stand and then call the UN is cowardly.

I wish you were right, regrettably they don't care what human rights groups say about the drone killings. Obama, Hillary, and several others have claimed that these drone strikes are justifiable on various occasions.

Do as we day, not as we do, seems to be their motto.

if bush were still in office, i'd be talking smack about bush for it. yeah...more than likely, any president would be doing this but obama is right now so i'm gonna point my finger at obama.

Human rights???? weren't most of those laws invented by the communists in Cuba. Surely the US should be above such rules as they were created by the ultimate evil of this world and prohibit the spread of the ultimate joy of this world which is a western style of democracy.

The use of drones is an inelegant solution to random murder albeit fun (as the president is noted to watch it like porn). The UN method of population pacification is far more subtle. The UN opts to send in hoards pervert soldiers infested with AIDS and syphilis. Genius if by genius one means sick and demented.
