That's not a cross.
Ever seen an aircraft being "towed" by a small white vehicle?
Well they connect a long white rod, like what you think is a cross in that photo, from one end of the vehicle to the front landing gear.

Thats right. I saw a pickup truck towing the UCAV at Edwards in 04-05 time frame using the same tow bar. probably made that way because of the low clearance of the uav's.

my guess in this case why it's a T-bar and not just a bar.

perhaps the UAV has two gear in front.

Unlike piloted aircraft, there isn't anybody in there to steer the thing when it's on the ground, so the crew pulling it with the tow bar connects the T end to the two front gear, and then, driving with the truck, can torque the UAV around.
