Its very good news to know something can be done, and when it absolutely must be done i'm afraid those parts of the world will have no choice, food production will have to come from elsewhere or a good irrigation infrastructure built to deal with the new climate,

The damages of doing nothing will be far greater than a dry US/Eurasia

I would argue the only REAL Solution is mass population control.

New technology is great but nobody is going to go to Africa and build it for free, therefore it's still semi useless.

The only thing that actually saves the environment is less people...

"Global Warming"= excuse to transfer all 1st world wealth to 3rd world nations....

Wouldn't that be ironic since most 'first world wealth' was derived by western companies stealing resources from the 'third world'?

Yeah I'll keep my natural rainfall and 1 degree warmer summers... thanks

Actually, many areas are seeing an extreme increase in total rainfall and we are seeing increases of FAR more than 1 degree in the summer in terms of local weather patterns. We are already over a 1 degree increase in TOTAL climate.

I am a passionate environmentalist. I love the forests more than people in most situations honestly. But global warming is a farce. Its so arrogant to think we have that much control over the environment.

And personally I rather live 15 more great years than have the next 100 in abject poverty because we gave our wealth to jungle dwellers in South America and Africa

Your statements contradict each other. If you love the forests more than people, as you say, then you wouldn't be wiling to see the forests further severely damaged by western economic interests for your own short term financial well being.

Also, "jungle dwellers in South America and Africa " is pretty, shall we say, obvious?

There is so much evidence that points towards climate change being part of a natural cycle. The main reason it's being pushed to the extent it is is to contribute to the climate of fear they have us all living in. THAT is the real climate change. Of course too many people are awake for just religion to do the trick, as it used to, so they needed to come up with a scientific scare.

Climate ups and downs are a natural cycle.
The issue here is taking a multi-thousand year process and shortening it down to a hundred or so years due to artificial meddling.

Its science..not a scientific scare (unless it scares you). Simply put, the earth is opening. Some people are demanding it is from the nuclear bombs we keep dropping at the unstable point of the techtonic plates, some will say earthquakes are normal and its unrelated, regardless of the evidence pointing to the nukes making a difference, and some simply refuse to acknowledge earthquakes to begin with.
But as we bicker on the edge of the ever growing hole, we are becoming more and more likely to fall in the hole while we debate the issue.

Now, there is a problem here...the debate is important, because the solution involves admitting the causation to begin with...if we put duct tape on the holes edge, while continuing to drop bombs, then our efforts are for nothing.

I trust the mostly unanimous voice of the scientific community over select politicians whom are directly linked to big oil companies. I am almost shocked that a place like ATS has such a divided view on this and would trust companies like BP and the politicians they purchase over the consensus of worldwide scientific minds. Its almost like a parody of reality.

Will let you be the one that informs china or india to reduce their population.

The western nations are doing fine in regards to population. This is what many on ATS here don't understand..that when there is discussions about population control, its not bumbleweeds, arkansas they are discussing, but places where its nearly shoulder to shoulder with people (india...really, do you need a billion people in your nation?!)

So, how would we, the clever west, go about telling india to install mandatory sterilization and chipping, meanwhile not do it ourselves.

Won't happen...therefore, we need to look at how to counter effects and reverse effects verses treat the actual problem..because the problem is not going away.

Haha I should have clarified better. I care more for the Amazon rainforest than I do the people living in or near the rainforest.

I'm all for civilized civilization.

....And we're really going to bring out the clique "the west stole everything argument"..... depending how far back you go EVERY civilization stole from their predecessor...

The US getting China and India to control their population is just about as likely as ANY corporation or country building advanced Fussion reactors in subsarahi africa for free....

...And would make a far greater impact.

Why would you think anybody that invents these wonderful technologies would give them away for free?.... Africa can't even afford mosquito nets for malaria....

Your kidding right?

Yes, that is indeed a VERY distinct statement from what you originally said, which was:

"I am a passionate environmentalist. I love the forests more than people in most situations honestly"

And so now you understand some aspects of a global socialism being the inevitable path. Not soon mind you, but eventually the road will in fact bring us there. The only other path leads to extinction.
Won't be a pure socialism either...a socio-capitalism..A NWO is a desired outcome so long as it respects the rights of the individuals and the various nations.

I personally see extinction before "global socialism". That sounds great in your text books but will never happen. Try telling somebody in Texas they now are under the control of a NWO. Or go tell a Islamist in Saudi Arabia that they now report to the UN, not their religious leaders.

Osama flew planes into our towers because we SET FOOT on Saudi Arabia property... Good luck with the global government thing.

What a horribly inaccurate simplification of a very complicated topic.

Not exactly. You made a horribly inaccurate generalization about a complicated topic.

Which I already stated.

No, it will happen. It must. But it won't happen rapidly. It will be subtle but persistant until it happened without anyone the wiser.
The league of nations, now the UN, a slow drift to give the UN more power over time, a united currency (currently known as visa/mastercard). Larger and larger projects being worked on by the united community (such as space stations and such). Each step is unnoticed..accepted.

The question is if it will or won't happen..its been slowly being lead into this direction for decades now. The question is, how much will the people guide, or will we leave most of it in corporate decisions...for now, it appears we will allow global corps to unite us..because the moment we discuss people leading the unification, you got nuts and rednecks worldwide crying out...so, we demand it not be in our hands

Touche. You definitely raise some good points there. Tracing the lineage back to the League of Nations, etc.

Honestly I agree, there is a concerted effort by the elites in all nations to unite under 1 banner, or a NWO, whatever one chooses to call it.

I just don't believe its possible without an absolute global catastrophe. The League of Nations was preceded by WW1 and the UN by WW2. Even during the depth of the Great Depression there was absolutely no talk of global unification, even if it would have helped the economies of the world.

Absent a WW3, where people are just so beat into submission, that they will accept ANYTHING under the guise of "peace" I personally just don't see it happening.

And so its time to reflect on this thread now
global catastrophe to unite...
Hello global warming...a global crisis that will require the combined efforts of the earth. Again, may take decades, but it will happen.
