Kamchatka anyone? I noticed this morning a big increase in activity off the coast opposite Koryaksky. Karymsky just up from that has a current activity but this seems more connected to Koryaksky.

This is what is going on at Karymsky

KARYMSKY Eastern Kamchatka (Russia) 54.05°N, 159.45°E; summit elev. 1536 m

KVERT reported that moderate seismic activity from Karymsky continued to be detected during 31 May-8 June, and indicated that possible ash plumes rose to an altitude of 2.4 km (8,000 ft) a.s.l. on 31 May. Satellite imagery showed a thermal anomaly on the volcano during 3-4 and 6 June. The Aviation Color Code remained at Orange.

Koryaksky or Koryakskaya Sopka is a volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's far east. It lies within sight of Kamchatka Krai's administrative center, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Together with neighbouring Avachinsky, it has been designated a Decade Volcano, worthy of particular study in light of its history of explosive eruptions and proximity to populated areas.

Does not seem to be working at present.

This activity is only showing mag 4 or thereabouts for us so there may well be more smaller stuff going on. The seismo station IU.PET.00.BHZ channel is showing this for today:

Yesterday's chart looks like this;

The messy bit at the bottom is the 6.4 off Japan.

Of course. This is perfectly normal. Just because another volcano may be about to erupt does not mean there is any increase since as a new one erupts another dies down. It is the way of the world.

26 currently erupting which is absolutely normal in fact a little on the light side. 16 of those are always erupting.

The concern with Koryaksky would be it's proximity to a populated area.

Seems quiet at present. I am wondering if the 6.4 in Japan upset it a bit. Worth keeping an eye on.

Oh look, a Mag 6 near the swarm.(which seems to have stopped) Mm.

Obviously something is moving in that area, even if it is not the volcano.

Here is the seismogram at PET PET.IU.00.BHZ.2012.171 or better still from SMY
