Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within groups of people. It is the mode of thinking that happens when the desire for harmony in a decision-making group overrides a realistic appraisal of alternatives. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative ideas or viewpoints. Antecedent factors such as group cohesiveness, structural faults, and situational context play into the likelihood of whether or not groupthink will impact the decision-making process.
The primary socially negative cost of groupthink is the loss of individual creativity, uniqueness, and independent thinking. As a social science model, groupthink has an extensive reach and influences literature in the fields of communication studies, political science, social psychology, management, organizational theory, and information technology.
Personal Disclosure: I hope that helps!

I personally think the culprit is facebook and stuff like that. Its possible that ATS is being a victim of its popularity.
I've been around since 06' and this board was crowded will great, insightful mind. If you had nothing to bring to the table, you just didnt post at this time. The community was smaller, too.
Now, just a few of them had the resilience to stay, unfortunately. /sigh
And meanwhile we get 10 threads a day that pretend we are getting invaded by socialist.

The big picture is that the very atmosphere is being turned into the likes of that inside of a casino. If you take money from your pocket, to count it, you can be sure someone else just counted it as well. Anytime, anywhere, so long as you're outdoors, or near a _
You're talking of the Golden Age, here, when impulses were somewhat governed, when awesome wireless devices were less common, and thought provoking subjects were just that: thought provoking subjects. There wasn't any tweeting or other forms of electronic drool going on. You could watch it literally unfold, the degradation of concentration, and content, in lockstep to the ease of ability to get on line and interact, so to speak.
Add to the mix the fact that Charles Manson owns the world media, and is still bent on diversionary race war tactics (you saw the color wheel spin as soon as the media paraded obama in our face), in order to clean up after the fighting, and dominate the world, just like when he was a young shirtless DJ, back in the hills. I am not speaking figuratively.
My God....if you think ats is the only place affected, then I suggest you observe craigslist. Racist bots working overtime, and the management seems powerless to filter them out. Remember....Charles (Manson) is very much In Charge, and he wants us to fight each other. So much for thought provoking topics. If I even visualize the lavender hues of craigslist, now, I go almost dumb.
I erase a lot of my unsent words, lately, and not just here. It's important to have a good reason to speak, before speaking, so that your words carry some value in passing. Otherwise, it's just a room full of people who like to hear the sound of their own voices. I could have had silence, maybe heard something new, but instead I laid out 200 posts today... Well, if that means I incurred no opportunity costs by doing so, it can mean one of two things. If there's one thing I learned in Nam

Defense Bill Legalizes US Propaganda
June 11, 2012
However, the negative potential of the NDAA does not stop with the issue of indefinite detention. It has now come to light that the 2013 version of the Act (passed by the House but yet to be taken up by the Senate) allows the State Department and Defense Department to direct the same kind of massive propaganda campaigns here in the U.S. that are presently waged as part of American war efforts in foreign lands.
