this is an unfolding story but what we need to know is that, the recent tsunami in japan was caused by an earth quake that was:

9.0 magnitude....109 miles from coast

this one is

6.3...and only 95 miles of the coast...

i guess the next few hours is all about evacuating the coast......

update us with what you know people...2012 season has just got started

peace

How is this 'alternative' news?

Appears there is little moderation of this forum as of late.

6.3??

There is a huge magnitude of difference between a 6.3 and 9.0.... A HUGE difference...

This is nothing..

Maybe a wave will do a somersault on the beech... No Tsunami though.. Thank God..

You are correct that there is a MAJOR difference between a 6.3 and a 9, but a 6.3 is still a big quake, and depending on the depth and location, could CERTAINLY cause a tsunami.

Of course.. But comparing a 6.3 to a 9.0 is like comparing a 100k lotto win with a 100 million lotto win... These areas get this type of quake very regular.. No tsunami... And chances are there will not be one now..

just read
Depth 31.8 km (19.8 miles)

so how bad would that be
I thought it would have to have smaller depth like 3-6 miles

Earthquakes off the east coast of Honshu, Japan happen on a weekly basis, if not more. Yes, they're usually under 6.0 but it's not uncommon to have a higher one.

I would worry if it gets 7.0 or higher.
