Interesting.

It appears that;
Negative campaigning doesn't work.
Just having a positive message doesn't work.
Constant and consistant campaigning DOES work.

Any other have insight?

Very astute observations. I'll be stumping a bit more before saturday.

For now, I'm having fun lurking.

Actually, when I saw that I may actually have a chance, sending U2U's to people and asking "please" helped me more than anything else

A total lack of voter suppression.

Does no one on ATS take lessons from reality?

ATS seems to be a community of speakers, not doers.

This may be another issue. We are talking about the improper use of the u2u messaging system on ATS. Spamming members with thread advertisements is not allowed. As Seekerof said mass-u2u's are reserved for admin only.

Thanks to the help of my fellow mod-mates, as was indicated before, the sending of mass u2u's is reserved for admin, not members, for the express purpose of sending board messages, etc.

These may hopefully clarify things a bit;

12.) You agree not to cultivate the membership of the AboveTopSecret.com discussion boards for the sending of private messages (board U2U or e-mail) for the purposes of marketing, mass mailing, or recruitment for other groups (offline or online) such as activist groups or other online discussion board websites. You will not also seek to rally the membership of the AboveTopSecret.com discussion board for any cause withouot prior written permission from the site owner.

13.) You will not post messages that are clearly outside of the stated topic of any forums nor disrupt a forum by deliberately posting repeated irrelevant messages or copies of identical messages (also known as "flooding"). You will also not create threads or post messages announcing your departure from the board unless approved by me.

Terms And Conditions Of Use

And an indication by SkepticOverlord here:
Getting U2U spam.

Still digging, but perhaps SO will clarify this, time permitting when he is on and has seen this, a bit more. In short, members sending mass u2u's is forbidden and restricted to ATS admin.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and future compliance.

It's the constant thing. I noticed my numbers nearly come to a halt when I went off target from campaigning and started discussing things like Obamacare instead of campaigning. They picked back up when I noticed that and got back to campaigning. The moral of the story: keep yourself in the public eye, and firmly attached to your campaign rather than side issues. Never be content to rest with what you have - people forget there's a race too easily without constant reminders.

I actually signed up for a graduate level math class this summer named : The Mathematics of Voting and Elections...should be pretty interesting!!

Using this textbook for it: www.amazon.com...

Maybe I can use my experience from this "experiment" in it in some way!

ETA: you get so many free credits tuition each year when you're working for a University and it's a shame not to use them!!

As I mentioned above, that was where I fell down. I got tired and needed a break, took it, and votes slowed almost to a standstill. To expand on what I wrote in my post above, think of the story of the tortoise and the hare.

I just went out to feed my giant ill-tempered bear hound, and mulled beezzer's question over a bit while I was out there. I came up with some additional thoughts which may or may not be related. Let the reader decide.

Find your stance on an issue, and stick with it. Don't change that stance insincerely in order to pander to this or that special issue voting block. You'll only alienate previous supporters by doing that, and haven't enough to gain from the special interest groups. if you can find a way for your stance to work with theirs, then go for it and promote it, but if not, don't start pandering.

In that way, whether people like your stance or not, they can at least count on you to stick to your guns. There's a certain respectability in being consistent, a sort of trustworthiness.

I'm sure I'll think of more as time goes along, and add it as I think of it.
