I hate to inform you all that I am dropping out of the race. I do not have enough delegates to pursue the regent race any further. Thanks to everyone that gave me stars!

And thanks to Beezer for creating this election, you're cool

I always do my best to remain civil and respectful in any discussion I have. I feel that discussing with anger is counter productive and only works to create more division and make it harder to reach a solution/conclusion/agreement/compromise.

Truth be told, there was one member who did figure out how to push my buttons, though I never let on to them about it.I did my best to keep right on posting civilly and respectfully. That was JSObecky, may he rest in peace.

Though we disagreed on many issues, I always had great respect for him and many great debates and discussions were had.

Anyway, good luck to my fellow candidates!

Vote TRUTH_2012 for ATS Regent.

Could someone please tell me when the vote will be held?
Or are we using a star count?
How many times can we vote?
Can dead people vote in this election?
How about my pets? Can they vote, as well?

As far as I know, the official time for voting has not been stated yet. Well, it was originally slated for July 21st, if I recall, but It is being bumped up and should take place in the near future, I imagine.

ATS will be putting up a poll in the way they have done in the past and you will only be able to vote once.

Thanks, truth.

I am thoroughly enjoying this election process. I wish I felt that way about elections in the "real world".
I have been following the Regent candidates since this all started, and it's taken me this long to narrow down the choices and pick my party. 2 or 3 of them come very close to being able to represent, what I loosely term, my ideology.
Imagine what it would be like if the presidential race would be like if there were too many good candidates instead of leaving us to vote disdainfully for the lesser evil?

Ahhh, truer words were never spoken

I'd also like to thank all the candidates, affiliated supporters and campaign managers/workers.
It's been fun.
I'm ready to vote whenever you are

1) Have you learned anything new from this thread? If so, what?

Yes, I thought an election on ATS would be less politicky. (yes I just invented that word, you're welcome) But it turned out to involve all the shenanigans you see in any other election.

2) Was your opinion of a candidate swayed by the mudslinging?

By the mudslinging? No, not really. Some of it was funny, most of it was just stupid.

3) Was this electoral process much like real life? Was that to be expected?

Yes it was. Not at first, but looking back now I should have expected it.

4) Did the candidates act as people, or politicians?

A bit of both I think.

5) Is this election something you'd want to participate in next year? With the Regent being a year long title, would you want to participate again?

Maybe, I would have to do more recruiting for my cult though.

1) Have you learned anything new from this thread? If so, what?

Yes, to keep off nenothtu's lawn.

2) Was your opinion of a candidate swayed by the mudslinging?

Yes, [redacted] [redacted] [redacted]

3) Was this electoral process much like real life? Was that to be expected?

No, not really. But it's still not over yet. Anything is possible, I think if a few millions dollars were added to each of the campaigns we'd be getting closer.

4) Did the candidates act as people, or politicians?

Some yes, some no. Some acted like, well, I really don't know.

lastly,

5) Is this election something you'd want to participate in next year? With the Regent being a year long title, would you want to participate again?

I think a year term limit is too long. Maybe every 3 - 6 months might be better for attracting participants. With a bit more pre-election organization, like a set list of questions, shorter campaigning time frame, it might be more interesting.

In future Regent elections I think 1 thread, 1 or 2 sets of questions and 1 week to debate / campaign. Might work better and keep public interest up.

have you talked about envionmental policy?

ATS environment is like a pack of wolves in a den of vipers surrounded by burrows of bunnies and caged chickens.

Policy = T&C, no comment.

How do you feel about drilling in the ANWR?

I think it's another potential scenario for disaster. We need to find new alternative sources of energy than oil.

How do you feel about deep/offshore drilling in the Gulf?

I think the BP spill convinced me it's not a good thing. Especially when they can cause so much damage and not be held fully accountable.

What about the used equipment, litter (and the bodies) scattered about on Everest?

Anyone who wants to climb Everest should have to contribute to the clean up. Leave the bodies unless their families members request removal.

What is your stance on nuclear power?

I'm on the fence and have mixed feelings about it. Until we figure out better ways to produce electricity I think it's important. But the safety and environmental issues are of deep concern.

I would like to see the old worn out plants shut down. Plants located in obviously unsafe areas should be banned. Any new plants should have strict building codes and triple the back-up safety designs.

Here's a question for everybody.

Do you like your toilet paper over or under?

No real preference.

Although, I think the makers of toilet paper have studied it and found that if it's put in the over position people tend to use more. So that's why they put the print design intended to be in the over.

So if forced to choose and being that I prefer not to be wasteful. I would choose under.

I answered this in the ATS thread

www.abovetopsecret.com...

I think there actually was a study done by the manufacturers of TP. They found that if the roll is placed in the "over" position that people tended to use more TP.

This is why all TP, when designed, is printed with the intention of being placed in the "over" position. If you have designs on your TP or a softer side of the 2-ply roll will always be on the "over" side.

The idea is that the roll spins more easy and quickly from the over position. Therefore you unintentionally will often pull more TP than needed when the roll is in the over position.

Notice it is also much easier for your cat to ruin your roll when it is in the over position. It is much harder for a cat to unroll the TP when it is placed in the "under" position.

Personally, I believe the entire TP industry is a big scam and conspiracy. If we really wanted to be environmentally conscious. We would use as little paper products as possible. I know the thought of using reusable wash cloths is gross to many.

But think of how many trees are cut each day just to supply the growing demand for this unnecessary convenience. We are all being fooled by the TP industry. I would suggest that TP still be used in public restrooms. But I think eliminating TP in the home should be encouraged actually. Just like some families who don't use store bought disposable diapers. They use washable, reusable ones and prevent all that trash in land fills.

TP clogs the drains, it clogs the waste facility filters. It uses tons of bleach and other chemicals in the process of being made. It is actually a burden on our environment. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Here a Wiki entry about it

In surveys of American consumers and of bath and kitchen specialists, 60–70% of respondents prefer over.

Defenders of either position cite advantages ranging from aesthetics, hospitality, and cleanliness to paper conservation and the ease of detaching individual squares. Celebrities and experts are found on both sides. The reasons behind each person's choice have been analyzed by several studies with theories ranging from age, sex, socioeconomic status to political philosophy. It has even been suggested that preference for under may correlate with ownership of a recreational vehicle or a cat.
