Hi folks!

I got the okay from the ATS head office (a bunker buried half a mile in Antartica).

Since this is an election year in the states and in many other places around the globe, I thought it'd be fun to have our own.

Here's the rules. Each party nominates their person to hold the office of Regent.

A regent, from the Latin regens, "[one] reigning", or regency council is a person or group of persons selected to act as head of state because the ruler is a minor, not present, or debilitated.[1] The period of rule of a regent or regents is referred to as a regency.

en.wikipedia.org...(government)

I went with "Regent" because we are an international community.

Any "party" can provide a person for nomination.
Green
Conservative
Liberal
Banana Republic
Donner

ANY party.

The nominees (once selected) can debate amongst themselves here.

After the debates, the Supreme Overlords at ATS have agreed to have a "poll" or a vote with the nominees listed.

There is no money. There is no current label or title. (Mods?) But the person can rule supreme as ATS Regent (in their own mind).

Why am I doing this?

All the time on different threads we see a variety of people espousing a variety of solutions to our worlds current ills.

I thought if we "bundled" it and placed it in one thread under a certain format, not only would it be amusing, but educational as well.

We can ask the nominees questions, we can debate them on the issues, we can have some fun.

So what say you, ATS?

Ready to take the plunge and dive into the swampy muck that is politics?
Ready to stand up to the harsh spotlight of debate?
Ready to stand by your beliefs?

I will be your host for this thread.

beez

How long does the regent hold office?

Are there any campaign rules?

Will there be a "vice-regent" status for the runner-up?

Voter fraud will run rampant on the left.

One year.
Campaign rules will follow T&C.
No vice-Regent.
You must show proper ID in order to vote.

As a symbolic gesture, like every other high office held worldwide, the Regent should be exempt from following any terms, conditions, or rules in general.

Further, the Regent should not be prosecuted for crimes perpetrated against the ATS community while in office.

The Regent should be able to indefinitely post-ban members and use drone attacks on their bunkers with no fear of negative ramifications for atrocities conducted against mankind while in office.

Just a few suggestions to make it more true to life.

I also propose that the Regent does NOT have to produce any birth certificate or legitimate form of identification whatsoever before taking office.

Can we "buy" votes also?

I kid.........

I think this could be fun,and educational. Their are a lot of good people on ATS,that have very good people skills, and have done their homework,on what ills America. I wasn't going to vote, but a few have convinced me otherwise. I would like to get those who convinced me,to have their "soapbox",and maybe we can right whats wrong with this country.

Unfortunately, the Regent wll have to answer to a higher power.

For this election, I'm going to convert from a Libertarian to a Democrat.

I'd like to announce that my vote can be bought for a Cuban cigar, so I can commit two Federal offenses at once.

I must add, no PAC's no television commercials.

Though running "bumper stickers" in your signature might be okay.

Is GLP gonna buy this election like AFP bought the elections in Wisconsin?

Not at all. I've spoken to Shabiz Shabazz of the New Black Panthers and he said that his group will monitor voting stations.

Holder said he would but he's looking at 5 to 10 years for gun running.

The Monster raving Looney Party.

The Official Monster Raving Loony Party is a registered political party[1] established in the United Kingdom in 1983 by musician and politician David Sutch (1940–1999), better known as Screaming Lord Sutch.[2]

en.wikipedia.org...

The MRL Party is hereby recognised.

The MRL Party is recognised and you are now listed as a nominee IF you don't have any others running under the same platform or party.

Good luck!

Thanks, sonny. I'm sure that it may take some time (members out or time of day) for anyone who might be interested to chime in.

I'll occasionally give this a bump. Hope this garners enough interest. There are certainly enough opinions floating on this site.
