Afghanistan has been a war zone for more than 200 years. Any third party trying to take hold on them, has been consumed and dried out of blood on the mountains by gerillas and suicide attackers. They did the British, they did the Russians, they did the US/Nato.

These three neighboring countries for Afghanistan, Iran, China, India, on the other hand have the social and cultural capabilities to handle the Afghan trade practices. Also, they have historic relations to Afghanistan, making them easier to accept partners in those precarious tribal relations. None of them see McDonalds or Pepsi as signs of progress. So, absolutely nothing surprising in that they now seek emerging opportunities as the Nato demolition team leaves the place.

Also, I would see this as a positive direction for Afghanistan. With the help of its neighbors, they can actually achieve more than with Nato.

What comes to US trade interests, it surely works better to think cultural adaptation by social means than by M16, and in that particular sense, by adapt yourself rather than the Afghans. Nobody wants to change, so if you want to do business there - you need to change.

It does seem unfair. Someone is wrong. Was it all for oil. The haters seem to be basic nationalists, and they like the way their gov't throw money at any underhanded trick. It doesn't matter who started it. It's not going to end.

Is anyone surprised? I sure am not. We elected a feel good president with no experience and a lot of hype. This is the result.

Obama was never elected , he was appointed by his bosses the NWO . This was done at the bequest of the big boss of those satanic dbags as a in your face type of insult . Place a Muslim , in a nation founded on Christian values, to destroy it from within . The satanists are laughing all the way to their banks at this one.

Of course ninety percent of you will not see this, but it is the utter ironic truth .

So am I to assume all aid workers who have nothing to do with the war over there, who get there heads cut off/executed, I should think your all bad?

You are avoiding the most basic questions why are all those people there when their own home country is somewhere else? Had it not been a waging war by US/ Nato they wouldn't have been there.

If Im correct, guess where some of the scum bags are now in the photos you posted?
Prison,stripped of rank and dishonered!

Most of them didn't even complete their prison sentence and are enjoying a quiet life.

If these were photos of your people whipping, acid attacts, poisoning girls, beating your women, honor killing, you'd probly be happy and see nothing wrong with it.

Why would I be happy about it?

Beleive it or not,,many soldeirs did wonderful and heroic things to help them.

Agreed they did but the main point is they shouldn't have been there in first place.

I could also say, maybe the US is the only country in the world who has the balls to clean up some of the filth on this planet. But I try not to be one sided such as yourself.

US is not the owner of the countries across planet and has no right to attack and establish military bases there on false pretense. US main concern should be securing own country and trying to improve the lives of it's citizen.

Instead of complaining, you should try to fix your failed state pea size country.

We are trying but you got to agree it's a difficult task seeing how my country is surrounded by Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and nears Afghanistan, Sri Lanka etc etc all of which have political turmoil going at most of the time along with general apathy of politicians. Calling it a failed country would be wrong considering in the last recession our economy was most stable and cleared it without much challenges. This time however, the prices are rising thanks to the reduction of Iranian oil. As the supply has been cut off by some percentages the oil prices have increased which in turn has affected the price of all other commodities. There is no one to blame but the ruling political party for it to cave in the demands of US to reduce the oil supply.

The author of this thread has failed to mention

India is one of the biggest donors in Afghanistan, spending about $2 billion on projects ranging from the construction of highways to the building of the Afghan parliament. It has also won an iron ore concession in a $11 billion investment. But New Delhi has avoided involvement in bolstering Afghan security, except for running courses for small groups of Afghan army officers at military institutions in India.

There is a reason for this and it is ...

India backed the Northern Alliance during the civil war and was frozen out of Afghanistan once the Taliban took over in 1996 until their ouster by U.S. forces. It has since developed close ties with Kabul, prompting Pakistani fears of encirclement.

Pakistan has strong traditional links with the Afghan Taliban and other militant groups. Islamabad denies that it uses them as proxies to gain leverage in Afghanistan ahead of any settlement to the war, or in case civil war breaks out after foreign troops leave.

Source: in.reuters.com...

We all know once US/ NATO forces leaves Afghanistan it will be taken over by Taliban until a miracle happens. So who is going to be effected most by this? A country which is thousands of miles away across a ocean [US] or the countries which are in immediate neighborhood? Will you have better trade ties with your neighbors which will help improve the stability to your country or with a country across the ocean which attacked you and established military base on your soil? To give an idea of what I'm talking about here's a map

US will Cause Indian Downfall
In its report, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) disclosed on March 20, this year that “India is the world’s largest recipient of arms…India’s imports of major weapons increased by 38 percent between 2002-06 and 2007-11.” It is of particular attention that under the pretext of military build up by China and Pakistan, India on March 16 this year, boosted military spending by 17 percent to $40 billion.

By concealing its duplicity with New Delhi for its own interest, America which signed a nuclear deal with India in 2008, intends to make India a great power of Asia to counterbalance China, control Pakistan’s province of Balochistan due to its geo-strategic location with Gwadar seaport including mineral resources. For these purposes, with the help of New Delhi, CIA with the assistance of RAW and Mossad have been supporting subversive acts in various places of Pakistan and Balochistan including Baloch separatism. These agencies are also backing similar acts of sabotage in the Iranian Sistan-Baluchistan including Tibetan regions of China. The major aim of America is to manipulate Indian dream of becoming a super power of Asia in order to destabilize Pakistan, China and Iran in accordance with the strategic designs of America and Israel.

It is notable that currently, more than half of India’s budget is allocated for armed forces, and defence purchases, leaving even less to lift millions of its citizens from abject poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease. These plolitical and economic justices have further intensified regional and ethnic diparities in India.

It is mentionable that the one of the important causes of the disintegration of the former Soviet Union was that its greater defence expenditure exceeded to the maximum, resulting in economic crises inside the country. On the other hand, India has been acting upon the similar policies on the instigation of the US.

No doubt, the former Russia was a totalitarian state which had subjugated other ethnic minorities through force. But under the mask of democracy and secularism, Indian subsequent regimes dominated by politicians from the Hindi heartland—Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) use brutal force ruthlessly against any move to free Assam, Kashmir, Khalistan, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu and Tripura where wars of liberation continue in one or the other form. In the recent months, Maoist intensified their struggle, attacking official installments. In this context, Indian media admitted that Maoists have now entered the cities, expanding their activities against the Indian union.

Besides, even under the rule of Congress which claims to be secular party, Indian fundamentalist parties like BJP, RSS, VHP, Shev Sina and Bajrang Dal have missed no opportunity to communalise national politics of India. Although violence against the other communities has been used by Hindu fundamentalists as a normal practice since partition, they intensified anti-Christian and anti-Muslim bloodshed in the last decade.

After serving the BJP for 30 years, Jaswant Singh was expelled from the party for praising Mohammad Ali Jinnah and echoing the pain of the Indian Muslims in his book, “Jinnah: India, Partition, Independence.” While pointing out the BJP’s attitude towards the minorities, Singh wrote: “Every Muslim that lives in India is a loyal Indian…look into the eyes of Indian Muslims and see the pain.” He warned in his book, if such a policy continued, “India could have third partition.”

Past and present history of Balkan gives ample evidence that insurgency and movement of separatism in one country have drastic impact on other neighbouring states. Similarly civil war and unrest either in Somalia or Sudan have affected all the states of Darfur region, while violent uprising in Egypt, Syria etc. have radicalised a number of the Middle East countries. Nonetheless US covert strategy will throw Afghanistan in an era of further chaos resulting in more terrorism in the region. India should know that militants have links from Somalia to Kabul and Uzbekistan to Kashmir.

While US cost of war against terrorism which is more than 7 trillion is rapidly growing, causing other related problems inside America in wake of debt crisis. If India did not understand American double game and kept on following US faulty policy in wake of the modern era of economic development and peaceful settlement of disputes, US will cause Indian downfall.

Can India 'fix' Afghanistan?
India may be left as one of Afghanistan's most prominent aid partners.
Here on India Ink, we have been asking: Does this make any sense? On first glance, at least, India seems an unlikely provider of development assistance because of the serious issues troubling it at home. Many of the same things that Afghanistan needs, from infrastructure to education, India is having troubles providing for many citizens, even without the regular threat of attacks from the Taliban.

India's state-run power industry struggles to get enough fuel thanks to mismanagement and bureaucracy, even its brightest youth can't land a spot at a good university and about third of its citizens live in destitute poverty, with hundreds of millions malnourished. The current central government is grappling with a growing deficit, shrinking economic growth and an increasingly dissatisfied voter base.

It's no surprise that India's Afghanistan plans have been greeted with some scepticism.

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king," said Rajeev Malik, an economist at CLSA, a research and brokerage house, who has been a sharp critic of India's fiscal policy and government. "India has not managed to fix these issues itself," he said, but added that the country "probably has more experience than Afghanistan."

India has committed some $2 billion in aid to Afghanistan, of which $1 billion has been spent, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Indian public and private companies have built a highway to Iran, put up transmission lines to bring power to Kabul, are constructing a new Parliament building and working on a hydro-electric project in western Afghanistan.

India sent one million tons of high-protein biscuits to Afghanistan, and plans to follow that with an additional 250,000 tons this year. (stale biscuits) There are 1,000 Afghan students on scholarships in Indian universities right now.

Whether the ambitious plans in industries, like mining and manufacturing, will work out remains to be seen. In November, a consortium of public and private Indian companies, led by the state-owned Steel Authority of India, won a bid to mine in three states in Afghanistan, which includes the construction of a six million-ton steel plant, an 800-megawatt power plant and 200 kms each of road, rail and transmission lines - as well as a pledge to set aside one per cent of profits for establishing educational and medical facilities.

"We are very bullish about this," the chairman of SAIL said when the deal was announced. Total investment by the Indian companies is pegged at $10.8 billion.

The big numbers, heavy-duty infrastructure plans and optimistic outlook are a stark contrast to SAIL's India performance. In February, SAIL said quarterly profits fell by more than 40 per cent from the same period the year before, thanks in part to higher raw material costs and SAIL's inability to get coal from another state-owned company.

The Starving 800 million in India

I make this point because the article gives the impression that somehow India’s growth has something to do with the 800 million Indians who have to survive on less than Rs 20 a day.

The article is a reporter’s piece laying out some of the facts; it is not an analytical piece attempting to make sense of the situation as it exists. While it is mildly informative and makes for strongly depressing reading, it does not help us understand the big picture. Take for instance, ” . . . part of the growing national trend of farmer suicides, with nearly 200,000 farmers killing themselves from 1997 to 2008, in the very years that the Indian economy was expanding.”
Did you catch that implied hint of causation in the reported correlation? Anyway, just how high is that raw 200,000 number? We just don’t know because the context is missing. India’s raw suicide rate in 1998 was 12.2 for males and 9.1 for females per 100,000 population, or approximately 10.6 people 100,000, per year. With a population of 1 billion, India can expect 106,000 suicides per year. Now we have to ask, “Is the number 18,000 farmer suicides a year unnaturally high if the total number of suicides a year is 106,000?”
.
India’s poverty did not happen overnight. It took decades to engineer. When the British left in 1947, India had around 200 million desperately poor people. Six decades later, that number is now 800 million. It could not be because of multinational corporations simply because MNCs and modern globalization are recent phenomena. No, India’s problems have a local genesis — and how can it not be local when India has been pretty much shut off from the rest of the world by its wonderful socialistic autarkic regime thanks to Mr Jawaharlal Nehru and his spawn.

They have a saying in Texas which goes, “if you see a tortoise on top of a 10-foot pole, you sure as heck know that it did not get there by itself.” India’s poverty could not have happened without the active participation of some agency in engineering it. We have to understand that basic fact and internalize it before we can have a hope of fixing it

If you begin to study the problem in depth, you realize India will always be a second or third-rate country. Not only is it turning to the economical deadly socialism it also has major fundamental flaws when comes to dealing and processing its natural recourses

Only after India is able to turn this......................

The morals of this is a very slippery slope

Could it be possible that those who gave absolutely no contribution to the nation's military effort SHOULD be the first one's in line??

"Hey remember us? We didn't invade you or put a puppet leader at the helm"

What's wrong with that?

Meanwhile the full picture is left out of the discussion all together eh?
It's one thing to point out the narrow aspect you appreciate but ignore other contributing factors..

Context is everything. Considering India has been in a Cold War with Pakistan in Afghanistan via Proxy going back a few decades. It demonstrates the complete picture is much more complicated than you have deceitfully attempted to portray it.

From the Horses Ass, I mean the ISI's own mouth...

This just isn't public rhetoric aimed at each others public opinion. We all know both sides have been working in the background for several decades. I love how some will attempt to fool people with their myopic views and over simplify a situation that if looked at any real in depth manner will see how deceitful all involved have been.

ISI may act if Afghanistan gets too close to India: Musharraf

Accusing India of trying to create anti-Pakistan Afghanistan, former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf has warned that Islamabad's spy agency will need to take "counter-measures" if Afghanistan becomes too close to India.

"Since our independence, Afghanistan always has been anti-Pakistan because the Soviet Union and India have very good relations in Afghanistan," he said at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a Washington think tank Wednesday.

Accusing India of working to turn Afghanistan against Pakistan, he said: "We must not allow this to continue."

He makes that statement as if Pakistan's ISI hasn't already been involved...pffft...

Then coming back at it...

ISI wants Taliban to keep India out of Afghanistan: Experts

Pakistan's ISI wants the Taliban to be influential enough within the Afghan government so that it can keep India out of Afghanistan, an influential American think-tank has said.

James Dobbins from the RAND Corporation and his colleagues recently visited Pakistan and interacted with the official of the Inter-Services Intelligence.

"What the Pakistanis told us when we were in Islamabad – and we met with the ISI as well as the civilian leadership – which is that they share our interest in bringing peace, that they want the Afghan Taliban out of Pakistan and back into Afghanistan but not in a position of dominating the country," Dobbins said.

They recognise that having a Taliban-dominated government in Kabul would just open the way to a replication of what they experienced in 2001, he said at an event organised by the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

I dont get it, where is the difference to what I have said, in you post? It's public knowledge Pakistan does not want India to have good ties with Afghanistan for obvious reasons. In the economic struggle in which China and India are competing they have to establish good ties with their neighboring countries to further the economic goals. In trade relations not one country gets the upper hand but it's based on mutual profits - one earning from each other. With better economic relations comes better ties with eachother.

Yes that sounds good and all. But it doesn't take into account all the murders, Deaths, Warmongering, Back stabbings and over the top Espionage going back decades between Pakistan and India have caused in Afghanistan.

I know it's an aspect you've horribly tried to sidestep while focusing on the US involvement. If you're going to attempt to call the situation call it down the middle or don't bother at all.

So please, continue with your myopic justification as to why those two have the Moral high ground in Afghans affairs...

You must be kidding me..you offer no proof that India has attacked anyone in Afghanistan yet you continue to make false accusations based on two you tube video of no one else than a Pakistani ISI official who are known to support terrorists? If you would have remembered correctly Indian embassy in Afghanistan was attacked...there have been no instances of India attacking anyone in Afghanistan. The article posted by you says India had good relations with Afghanistan and Pakistan is pissed about it. What more? India has always tried to gain constructive foothold in Afghanistan by building roads, offices, transport etc. If that is called deaths, murder etc. then I dont know what you would call drone and missile attacks - a genocide perhaps?
