Getting my "knickers in a twist" ahhh yes, that's right I need to just turn the other cheek correct. Forgot that. Sorry, I get frustrated when people completely straw man what I say around here.

We're just saying that there's no proof of anything regarding that mountain because the only evidence comes from Christians who have profited and who still profit from it being Mount Sinai. We cannot be sure they haven't tweaked the evidence to fit.

Didn't Paul visit Mount Sinai? Surely he wouldn't have visited a deserted mountain. How would he have known it was Mount Sinai if there was no-one there? A civilisation must have grown near it.

And there is more than one Sinai . . .

Oh no kidding, and how do you figure that?
I think it is more likely that Horeb is a generic term for desert. Sinai is a proper name, where there would be only one Sinai, while there possibly may be countless "horebs".
Even though Jethro is called the priest of Midian, that does not mean he was necessarily in Midian while on that excursion of leading his flock to pasture "to the far side of the desert", which probably means the opposite side from Midian.

But you need to change the portion of your post about the mountain being sealed off by fence and razor wire. Afterall, jmdewey says that's not true and everyone who knows anything knows that jmdewey knows everything. So obviously that's not true.
Is this your fence?

A fence along a road is not the same thing as a mountain with a fence around it.
It's not that I "know everything" but that I have lots of spare time to look things up.

You are looking at it to literally. Some things in the bible use the word fire because thats all people had to compare it to. Still today there are things that we can not and will not possibly be able to understand, like hell for example. We can not pretend to understand the torments we will suffer in hell, but the word fire is used because thats the closer word we use to describe it. Imagine being burned alive for eternity, how terrible it would be. Hell will be much worse than that.

That's not Jabal al Lawz. There are no mountains surrounding it. Still didn't watch the video did you?

So the Hebrews crossed from Egypt over the Red Sea, then turned around and crossed back over to Egypt and went up to Mt. Sinai? Do you realize how absurd that notion is? God miraculously saves them from the hand of the pursuing Egyptian army and the Hebrews cross back over the Red Sea to go to a mountain right in the kigdom of Pharaoh? Midian is in Arabia, Paul said Sinai is in Arabia, herp duuuuurp.

What profit is there from a mountain the Muslims sealed off and refuse to allow the world to see?? They have a military outpost there, they refuse anyone to go near the mountain. Not even the bedoins are allowed near it anymore.

How again is that profitable? "Mountain of Fire" is a free video.
And yes, Paul was there for quite some time. And Paul even comments that Mt. Sinai is in Arabia. Josephus tells us it's in Arabia. Midian is in Arabia. The people who made the highest mountain in the Sinai penensula the famed "Mt. Sinai" was Constantine's mother Helena and Catholic dogma turned it into a shrine basically, and the location doesn't align with the Biblical text whatsoever. She just felt like it was the right mountain.

Paul said Sinai is in Arabia . . .

The important thing is what people thought Arabia meant in the time and place where Galatians was written, and not by you cherry picking old maps to find one that suits your favorite theory of the moment.

. . . to go to a mountain right in the kigdom of Pharaoh?
Sinai may have been hypothetically a province of Egypt, but that does not mean they had troops under their command the length of the peninsula to go hunting down emigrants. Plus the Pharaoh who was after them was dead anyway.

Do you realize how absurd that notion is?
Do you realize how ridiculous your theory is, how far away they would have traveled in the wrong direction (to get back to Canaan), in Egypt, in order to end up opposite what is now the kingdom of Saudi Arabia?

I don't see why you two are going back and forth on this issue...

There is a Mt. Sinai that has been used as a tourist destination for hundreds of years... you can climb to the top, and people take pilgramages to the site, and have for many years.

BUT...

When the site is compared with what is says in the bible about it... they do not line up... On the other hand the actual site that was discovered matches completely with the biblical accounts.

Everything in that site lines up completely, from the small cave in the mountian looking over the valley... to the etchings of the ancient Gods... (the golden calf)... there is an alter at the base of the mountian, and even a huge stone that had been "split" down the middle, and evidence of water comming from the base of it, flowing down to the valley.

Boundries found... Ex. 19: 12

twelve stone pillars at the base of the mountian Ex 24: 4

The split boulder... Ex 17; 3- 7 - Psalm 78 -15 -17

Start the video at 5mins...

Its pretty hard to deny this is the real Mt. Sinai... even for one such as myself who does not believe everything within the pages of the bible...

This would be a near impossible "hoax" to pull off...

On a side note...

I think the reason why this area is fenced off from the public is because, if it was found to be the actual site of Mt Sinai, I believe its possible some "military religious" faction might try to lay claim to it.

Perhaps calling it their new "holiest place"

I do hope you don't talk like that around children. What a disgusting thing to do to young minds.....poison their innocence with such vile things? The lake of fire....the fiery pit....now what could they have been? Hmmmm......fiery lava filled calderas?

Read it literally and keep away from the little ones.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the Hebrews went back to Egypt. The crossing was made at the 'Reed Sea' at the Suez Canal.....a translation error. Besides, the Red Sea isn't until south of the Sinai Peninsular. Where you are thinking of is called the Gulf of Aqaba. I believe they made their way across the Sinai taking the trade route and made it into Midian (Saudi) by going around the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Remember that the Gulf of Aqaba was not known by cartographers nor maybe Bible authors. Maybe the Gulf of Aqaba is not that old....given continental drift can occur suddenly. The Sinai would at one point have been connected to Saudi.

You don't need to convince me that Mt Sinai was not in the Sinai.

I can see plenty of money-making potential in this website.....regarding Mt Sinai, the Ark of C and Noah's Ark....

and here....

Fortunately I don't gesticulate as much as you do.

Too much time has been spent focusing on something that is neither known nor important. So what if we find the location of Mount Sinai? When it's only a volcanic mountain a clan of nomads worshipped, it's not exactly worth all the energy.

One thing that is worth investigating though is the Santorini eruption....the thing that got the Hebrews out of Egypt and, therefore, started the religion.
