How is he doing that?
Please explain.

I'm kind'a pissed off by this.
Get this. I'm from Sweden. I have an American girlfriend. I came to visit her in the US for five months. Because it was so difficult to get a work permit, I decided to stay here without working. Now, my five months are coming to an end, and I'm soon heading home, knowing that my plans to work in the US next time I go back, are going to be really difficult to achieve. What's even more difficult is getting a citizenship. Even marrying my girl isn't enough these days to achieve that.
So, would I say, if this is true, that I'm offended?
Hell yes! What point is it for me to jump through the #loads of legal hoops to become a US citizen so I can stay in this beautiful country permanently, if someone else can take a shortcut and reach the same goal without actually doing it with honest work - without actually deserving it?
...

I find it hilarious that people think that not deporting them makes them citizens who can vote

This is the action of a dictator or a king. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad couldn't even do this in Iran by himself. I would suppose that Kim Jong il could. Is this the beginning of the end? Does Obama, the constitutional scholar forget about why we have a congress?
Where in the constitution does it talk about illegal immigrants?
Also i'm sorry, but Kim Jong il focused on keeping his people in, I fail to see what him and Iran have to do with immigration policy. I don't see what's so horrible about giving people who were raised here (so no, they often didn't choose to come all the way over here themselves, they were taken over by parents etc) a chance to live here. This isn't going to encourage mass migration, it's just saying people can stay in the country they were raised in, rather than having a situation where you can be deported to a country you haven't lived in since you were a baby (can you imagine being sent to a strange country you may not even know the language and customs of and told it was your home?).
Also everyone saying this increases his voter base, in what way? he isn't giving them immediate citizenship and registration for the next election, thus how could they vote for him?
Also on American jobs, by legalising immigrants, you probably help more Americans get jobs, as companies can no longer hire them illegally at reduced wages (which cuts Americans out of the picture).
One final point, there isn't really a line to get into the USA, I mean, for gods sake, you have a lottery to get in! I've known people to try dozens of times and never get it.
My post didn't speak what-so-ever to the value of the proposed action by Obama, I spoke to the unilateral action of the President who is acting beyond his authority. The Founders of this nation organized a system of laws. The President cannot "choose" which ones he likes. Obama wants to be a dictator like Kim.
So do you think other presidents like Lincoln, Bush, and many others were all dictators? They acted unilaterally, often against full approval of the congress or the constitution. Gosh what about the illegalities of Nixon (planning to kill a journalist, using the FBI to track anti-war activists etc). Hardly something new for American presidents

Its all about building a new voter base. Plain and simple.
...After years of getting nowhere with the DREAM Act, President Obama has decided to pass a version of it on his own. Obama and Janet Napolitano will announce today that, according to new Homeland Security policy, certain young-ish illegal immigrants who came to the United States as minors will no longer face the threat of deportation and can apply for a documentation that would allow them to work in the United States....

Yes, it will get him votes...because it is the right thing to do.
I'm sorry he isn't a heartless bastard...
but you have Mitt Romney to fill that position...so vote for him all you want.
Though it isn't the fault of the kids that were brought here...

Obama has made an offensive and insulting decision to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. What of us legal immigrants and children of legal immigrants who had to wait in line, follow the rules, and jump through all the legal hurdles to get here?
Why bother following the rules? Are rules now something to ignore? What about the rest of the laws, should we all ignore the remaining laws?
www.cnn.com...
Obama administration to stop deporting some young illegal immigrants
What a disgusting and offensive administration. Obama seriously SUCKS as a president and SUCKS as a leader.
Of course...they are all just mad because this is a big win for Obama.

No .. it isn't. He just gave amnesty to 800,000 people who will overload our system. It will be a greater burden for the US taxpayer to bear. More people that our tax money will have to take care of. More people competing for jobs that Americans should be filling. He just made things WORSE .. not better. And his pandering and buying votes isn't 'the right thing' ... it's just politics as usual.
I'm sorry he isn't a heartless bastard...
Obama didn't do this out of the supposed goodness of his heart.
It was a calculated political move to gain votes so he could be re-elected.
He did it even though it's going to cause MORE PROBLEMS for real Americans.
He doesn't seem to care about that at all.
but you have Mitt Romney to fill that position...so vote for him all you want.
I don't plan on voting for either one of them.
This isn't an Obama or Romney only election you know ...
"This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It's not a permanent fix," Obama said to take on conservative criticism of the step. "This is a temporary stopgap measure."
