Old news but it resurfaced once again in the news. Although I have some serious doubts about 'Reuters', this time it also quoted other countries working with the Drone Project. I am not sure what the future holds for Chavez let alone the Drone program.

We are doing this with the help of different countries including China, Russia, Iran, and other allied countries," he added, apparently referring both to drone construction and to other projects including a munitions and weapons factory

I was only able to find the below link for Venezuelan drone(s).
Venezuelan Drone

Is Chavez blowing off some steam and hot air and/or bluffing? I mean the guy is reportedly facing physical ailment(s) and his chances of re-election are not looking too good with a younger athletic candidate for Venezuela's Presidency.

ALBA is no friend of America. And venezuala as the leader certainly is not. Also, Chavez is loved.

At least that is what grateful owners joke as they line up with their pets to take advantage of the latest initiative by the socialist Venezuelan president's network of grassroots organizations: subsidized neutering. "If the opposition takes over, we lose all these services that Chavez has given us. We go back to zero," said Laura De Pernalete, helping organize the sterilization program in the poor Caracas neighborhood. "La Vega is 100 percent behind Chavez."

www.reuters.com...

I like Chavez too. He is against American Imperialism and he is trying to help the poor.

Why shouldnt they have drones?

The plethora of "missions" bringing services to Venezuela's slums and impoverished rural areas - from subsidized food to Cuban-staffed health clinics - has underpinned the socialist Chavez's popularity among the poor during 13 years in power.

Piling money into more social projects in a pre-election spending spree, Chavez has an edge in polls ahead of the vote.

Iran took down the US's most sophisticated UAV without much trouble. It is not wise to underestimate Iranian capabilities.

What has any of this got to do with the OP?

Chavez is loved

La Vega is 100 percent behind Chavez

Chavez helps the poor.

Why shouldnt they have drones?

You posted SECOND in this thread i'm struggling to find where anybody has said they can't have drones? i think its more than obvious what ever those two nations put up jointly in the air will never be a threat to anyone other than the civilians it flys over

The problem the West have with Chavez is he's a hateful moron that doesn't shut up spluttering hatred about past gone eras, he's suppose to be a leader unfortunately he acts more like a bitter & twisted little boy with warped views of reality, i can't think of a single reason why the poor people of Venezuela would want such an utter idiot in office he only seems to use his position of power to slag of other countries to satisfy his own ego, he's a total embarrassment and should go see a shrink immediately

The truth is, if it wasn't for Chavez and his strong attitude, Venezuela would be a client state of the US, having all the trappings such as an ineffective government, poverty, unfair "treaties" with the US, massive internal strife and a hardline dependency on outside resources and nations.

The Venezuelans are smart people, and know that whilst Hugo Chavez is not the ideal leader, he is the lesser of two evils so they back him.

If that's the case they would have taken down a hell of alot more...as we all know, It had technical malfunctions, It crashed ...then Iran put it back together...

Chavez, in power since 1999, has been a vocal opponent of what he refers to as US “imperialism” in Latin America, and has boasted of close ties with American foes like Iran and Cuba.

dawn.com...

That is the last line in the linked article. What I am saying is key and central and at the crux of the topic. I am sorry you cannot see that.

i think its more than obvious what ever those two nations put up jointly in the air will never be a threat to anyone other than the civilians it flys over

I disagree. If WW3 breaks out America will have some form of attack from South America. I do not know why the US Military is not more focused on the US borders. Instead they are overextended.

I think Chavez is loopy. He said capitalism may have ended life on mars
But what he says about imperialism is correct. I feel American imperialism and I live in Australia. It is felt in South Korea. I cant imagine what it would be like to live in an emerging or third world country that has been exploited by the United States Imperialism.

Oh they probably have, but not that they will speak too much about. You are not fooling anyone with your description of the events. It's time to accept that the Iranians brought it down.

I wouldn't know, i'm not American,

He doesn't have a strong attitude, he has a rather annoying attitude, one that can be likened to a dictator or a gang leader rather than a leader on the world stage he a total joke, he is suppose to be a leader and conduct himself in the appropriate manner on the world stage, he just loves to talk about western nations being imperialist but his attitude as a leader is right out of that era in time, he would fit right in tbh,

This Idiot when speaking about his issues with the UK addresses the "Queen" & not the government, he's as crazier than a bag of frogs ive never seen such a bitter & twisted old fart in all my life

Remember that this is a region where conflict has happened almost every single year since the states gained independence from Spain and Portugal, so "strong" to us, could be as varied as defending the nation from outside threats to keeping the nation together.

Regardless of his personality (which I agree, is more mixed up than a blended pack of skittles and smarties combined), he has kept the nation together, and free of external interference, so it has to be said he is quite a strong leader.

This is the mistake you make.

You assume that Iran would do the same to the US if it had the ability. Well, we have to use logic here, Iran has been the victim of attacks and outside control since the second world war, in that time, it has not attacked another country, so it is questionable to say that Iran would do the same.

However, that Iran is working with Venezuela could mean that they intend to use drones, though quite why they would need to is beyond me, I find it highly unlikely.

They are a powerful country though, it is unwise to underestimate their devotion to their leaders and nation.

What do you consider apporpriate? A few brave Australian Politicians have tried to stand up to the US Governments unfair TPPA Trade agreement. Most are afraid. It is a political no no for western politicians to go against what the United States orders. Imperialism is real. From top to bottom. The western MSM lies about him and Ahmadinejad. If you read Ahmadejads speech to the UN for example, you see that he is speaking the truth. I do not see why every nation must tip toe around the fact that the United States are doing a terrible job as superpower and holder of the Reserve Currency.

I don't have to dream away.

Iran has 600,000 fulltime military personnel, with 1,800,000 reservists.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have at least 120,000 men including a large special forces branch.

The Basij militia comprises of 3,000,000 combat ready militiamen.

Sure they may not be the most technological advanced force on earth (for now, at least) simply the numbers alone create a major headache for any enemy.

I take them very seriously, I advise you do the same.

If there was any form of attack from South America on the US in a WW3 scenario it would be pretty comical to watch, i'm sure the US could draft in the Women's national guard to throw abuse at them till they give up and went home,

Imperialism is long long gone my friend,

I think you are MASSIVELY confused, The US is not forcefully in South Korea, they're allied to South Korea and maintain a sort of "peacekeeping" presents there today to which they're very welcomed, neither is South Korea a 3rd world by any means, i suggest you go do some reading up on just why the US in in South Korea and how long they have been there,

I'm sorry but you are MASSIVELY naive if you think Imperialism has gone. No, the US is not forcefully in Korea, but there are more than a few people asking why you are still in Japan.

Imperialism, specifically US Imperialism, is why there are regions constantly in states of conflict, as corrupt governments sell themselves out further for US goals and the innocent people pick up the tab as they always do in these situations.

In Australia, the US is about to put the fragile political balance at risk by basing spy planes out there to spy on China.

In Eastern Europe, the US is about to put the (very) fragile political balance at risk by basing hostile missile defence systems in Poland, targetted at Russia.

It is this imperialistic attitude the US has that thinks it has the right to do whatever it likes in whatever country it chooses, but this is falling away as nations like China, like Iran, like Russia make it known that they are prepared to confront your actions at all stages, and Venezuela now, announcing that it is working with Iran to develop UAV Technology.

US imperialism does exist, and it does have massive repercussions.

Obviously you're making up lies again CityBig and quite clearly you know absolutely nothing about war

Iran Active Military: 545,000 [2011]
Iran Active Reserve: 650,000 [2011]

I don't see how those numbers would in the slightest mean a headache for any conventional army if they don't have the hardware they're canon fodder, Nazi Germany cut down 26.6 million Russians on there Eastern front due to having superior fire-power & tactics, and they would have killed a whole lot more if it wasn't for the Nazi's fighting on two fronts
