Theresa May sets out plans to monitor internet use in the UK

Details of internet use in the UK will have to be stored for a year to allow police and intelligence services to access it, under government plans.

Records will include people's activity on social network sites, webmail, internet phone calls and online gaming.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the change was needed to keep up with how criminals were using new technology.

But senior Tory David Davis said it was "incredibly intrusive" and would only "catch the innocent and incompetent

Will this ever end?

The whole "free" world is losing it's freedom on all fronts, especially the internet. The people of the UK should be outraged as I'm sure most of you are. And of course one of the main reasons is to stop "terrorism".

Here in Canada we are also in a constant struggle with our government's abusive intrustions on our freedoms so I'm with you friends. We all saw this coming but the rate that these policies are being introduced is alarming.

I sure won't stand for it, even if it includes having to cancel my internet in a form of protest.

I agree, the people will only put up with so much until their whole plan topples over. Regrettably I'm losing faith in this concept because IMO the breaking point has long past and we are taking it dry with no vaseline.

Hopefully someone somewhere will spark the flame that burns these criminals powers and leaves them at our mercy and let us regain control of our world. Enslavement is nothing I will ever accept.

I love when Governments come in with talk about transparency. They don't mean transparency of Government, they mean transparency of your lives. It is the equivalent of the police having the right to check all your postal mail before you receive it. I hope this creates an appropriate back lash.

Your internet provider can tell you to the byte how much you've used and they shoot you an email to let you know you've reached your bandwidth for the month and they're going to start charging you excess . . . think it is a stretch how much info they are gleaning and storing from every keystroke?

Although not the police, that went on for years and still does. They have rights in law to intercept any post they choose and have done for some time.

This Theresa May lady reminds me of the UK version ov Vic Toews. Perhaps "Anonymous" will make her and her cronies pay for this just like they did with Toews. These people think they can control us without fear of retalliation.

I also believe they have been doing this world wide for quite some time. But if they make it known to the people they can legally use it to intimidate and punish us versus using it secretly. They are systematically getting us used to the "Big Brother" state that they want us to live in. I think this is part of the conditioning they have planned for us.

That's what will happen eventually. People will just say F-it. Sure you will have some people still on crap book. But the real juicy users will opt out as soon as an emerging technology appears that facilitates networked computers not dependant on the internet as we know it.

When people realize the blatant lies their government deals with to them, they will go ape. Imagine that we are 50 years down the road and the little things are gone. Then imagine that outside your house you can hear the sirens nonstop, screams, yelling, ect....

suddenly the TV is not that important. Suddenly you remember you are more than that guy on the couch.

Then in your panic you go outside like the rest of us and we look at each other. What do you think our conversation will be like? Will it be anything like what our grandparents had when Germans were filling the skies with bombers?

NO. We will immediately know something is wrong with the accepted story. It will not be accepted for long. Then there is no going back. Either they can imprison 70+% of the population or they need to leave the country, whichever it may be.

They have been telling us BS for years. Dont get me wrong I would love some direct action against the people at the heart of corruption in the UK. The only way the people will fight back is when it start effecting family's (Poll Tax)

One thing I don't particularly like about this modern world is the fact that everyone is cooped up in their free time on the internets they have access to. Don't get me wrong, the internet is a great tool. I've learned so much with it over the years.

I think the world would be a better place if people got out of doors more frequently. I've noticed that if you say hi to people out in public these days that a large chunk of the population has become antisocial.

There are often times that I look at the last 50 years and wish that I was born in a time before all this so-called connectivity. Having everything "connected" has IMHO distanced people and made them more antisocial.

With all that being said, I do believe that privacy in communication should be more important. If they want to take it away then it will surely happen, regardless of whatever public protest there is.

Now is a good time in the world to take up hobbies that people may have never considered before. Hiking, camping, bowling, pool tournaments, anything you really enjoy doing that isn't connected to some sort of electronic device that is networked. There are millions of things to do outside, and I've found that those things are often times more fun than sitting at home on the computer or txting on a smartphone.

I understand your point and partially agree, but I think you may be underestimating the power of the human mind. Eventually we will have to put our foot down and say enough is enough. It's happened in the past, and it will happen again.

It's too bad that this generation is polluted with poison and media control so you may be right, a lot of us seem to worry more about the upcoming episode of our favorite TV show versus the real world and what's happening.

I just hope that the people of the UK make a fuss about this and let the people behind this that they will not stand for it.
