Theresa May sets out plans to monitor internet use in the UK

www.bbc.co.uk

Details of internet use in the UK will have to be stored for a year to allow police and intelligence services to access it, under government plans.

Records will include people's activity on social network sites, webmail, internet phone calls and online gaming.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the change was needed to keep up with how criminals were using new technology.

But senior Tory David Davis said it was "incredibly intrusive" and would only "catch the innocent and incompetent

Will this ever end?

The whole "free" world is losing it's freedom on all fronts, especially the internet. The people of the UK should be outraged as I'm sure most of you are. And of course one of the main reasons is to stop "terrorism".

Here in Canada we are also in a constant struggle with our government's abusive intrustions on our freedoms so I'm with you friends. We all saw this coming but the rate that these policies are being introduced is alarming.

I sure won't stand for it, even if it includes having to cancel my internet in a form of protest.

I attached the link to the UK bill if anyone is intersted in reading it.

i can't wait for the day that all that power up top gets too heavy and it all falls over!

they can only take so much from us. i really don't think that global enslavement would ever be a possibility but TPTB seem hellbent on trying.

bring on the shackles! only then will the people truly get pissed off...

A year?! It will be compressed and held for as long as they need it. Do me a favour, anyone remember the Utah Data Centre thread: www.abovetopsecret.com... I would suggest that this will not just be confined to the UK. I also suspect that it's already happening.

This is just another example of the erosion of freedom and the continual snooping of the ever increasing police state in which we live.

Welcome to freedom and Western Democracy.

but not a peep about this sort of thing ....

its like they want to be converted....

yup...anything that they publicly admit they are trying to plan or pass laws for, you can bet it's been going on fur years and they are finally secure enough in their iron grip to let people know that they "plan on doing it" "soon".

Good to see you ICEKOHLD!

I agree, the people will only put up with so much until their whole plan topples over. Regrettably I'm losing faith in this concept because IMO the breaking point has long past and we are taking it dry with no vaseline.

Hopefully someone somewhere will spark the flame that burns these criminals powers and leaves them at our mercy and let us regain control of our world. Enslavement is nothing I will ever accept.

I love when Governments come in with talk about transparency. They don't mean transparency of Government, they mean transparency of your lives. It is the equivalent of the police having the right to check all your postal mail before you receive it. I hope this creates an appropriate back lash.

i think that is why there is all the doom and gloom on the boards these days! people feel helpless and think that a asteroid or monstrous EQ will come and save the day.

me personally, i am of the belief that it will be Mom who "kicks things off", so to speak...

i'm with you...i pray the catalyst is just around the river bend...

Anyone who thinks they're not already doing this world-wide needs a sip of the java . . . seriously.

Your internet provider can tell you to the byte how much you've used and they shoot you an email to let you know you've reached your bandwidth for the month and they're going to start charging you excess . . . think it is a stretch how much info they are gleaning and storing from every keystroke?

Just sayin'

Although not the police, that went on for years and still does. They have rights in law to intercept any post they choose and have done for some time.

I couldn't agree more on Transparency, don't make me laugh. What like with MPs expenses or racism within the MET!!! They wouldn't know transparency if it came gift wrapped in cling film.

Hi Dan, hope all is well.

This Theresa May lady reminds me of the UK version ov Vic Toews. Perhaps "Anonymous" will make her and her cronies pay for this just like they did with Toews. These people think they can control us without fear of retalliation.

Anyone who sells out deserves what ever comes their way IMO.

I also believe they have been doing this world wide for quite some time. But if they make it known to the people they can legally use it to intimidate and punish us versus using it secretly. They are systematically getting us used to the "Big Brother" state that they want us to live in. I think this is part of the conditioning they have planned for us.

That's what will happen eventually. People will just say F-it. Sure you will have some people still on crap book. But the real juicy users will opt out as soon as an emerging technology appears that facilitates networked computers not dependant on the internet as we know it.

In the end they are just showing their hand. People are too well informed to somehow erase that. It is retarded to panic and try and take the internet away now.....morons.

They should embrace it instead of trying to direct it. Their fear sets us back. The cowards might piss their pants if the world was more educated more trained, more civilized and more beautiful.
No, they feel comfortable with slums existing somewhere, they feel safe when only they are in the know.

I compare them to kids playing video games with cheats on, and then bragging to hard core gamers about how easy it all is.

People like me look at them and smile to ourselves.....we know what is to come for them. We have seen it before.

I say let them close the internet. We would become prolific talkers thereafter. How else will we satiate our thirst for knowledge? By their channels...the same people that closed information to mankind for the sake of control and profit....?....

yeah you're a great salesman of Enlightenment then. People will just line up to hear what the guy bitching, trying to shut everyone up has to say.

We will turn to each other then and resort to the sacred tradition of oral transmission of culture. Like we have done for thousands of years. Then I would like to see a dis-info agent try and F-up our conversations. We would devour them in person. Cowards won't even show up. We would have a bunch of obvious FBI agents (or equivalent counterparts) we would learn to distinguish soon enough and then what? the Government asks for an invitation to our gatherings?

Sure.

I have not seen anywhere in history a group of dumbass smart people like the group we have assembled here on earth now a days trying to run things in the image of their ancestors. They are so lame. I can pick them out from a mile away. People will learn this skill themselves too.

They are making us better at resisting by giving us so much fuel. They should consider this...

We are not stuck here with them, they are stuck here with us. When we turn there will no place to hide...no bunker deep enough no island remote enough.

I keep trying to warn them, but they think I am just nervous about losing internet porn and my civil liberties.....

I swear to Christ ....you people are going to get yourselves all killed.

suicide by mass uprising.....I am baffled at how smart people can be so F-ing dumb.

screw it. Take the next step you people are so sure of. I promise the ground is there. Don't bother looking. No, your faith is enough.....

The sad thing is that the people of Britain will take this and get on with there lives.

Some other news item will take headline while this is slowly implemented "Pasty Tax" and nobody will be none the wiser.

I can see it now.

On tonight's news.

UK government monitors all UK internet activity, But wait breaking news just in Cheryl Cole maybe entering the Big brother house to enjoy a night with the house mates.

Yeah that is true under normal circumstances. The thing is they opened a can of worms here.

When people realize the blatant lies their government deals with to them, they will go ape. Imagine that we are 50 years down the road and the little things are gone. Then imagine that outside your house you can hear the sirens nonstop, screams, yelling, ect....

suddenly the TV is not that important. Suddenly you remember you are more than that guy on the couch.

Then in your panic you go outside like the rest of us and we look at each other. What do you think our conversation will be like? Will it be anything like what our grandparents had when Germans were filling the skies with bombers?

NO. We will immediately know something is wrong with the accepted story. It will not be accepted for long. Then there is no going back. Either they can imprison 70+% of the population or they need to leave the country, whichever it may be.

IMO
they would need to kill of 90% off the world population, while being God and not killing themselves off in the process. This, no matter how F-ing smart they think they are, will blow up in their face.

Then its centuries of crappy poetry about the lament of fools.....sorry, really smart fools. I forget they emphasize their intellects like they were already Gods or something.

They have been telling us BS for years. Dont get me wrong I would love some direct action against the people at the heart of corruption in the UK. The only way the people will fight back is when it start effecting family's (Poll Tax)

One thing I don't particularly like about this modern world is the fact that everyone is cooped up in their free time on the internets they have access to. Don't get me wrong, the internet is a great tool. I've learned so much with it over the years.

I think the world would be a better place if people got out of doors more frequently. I've noticed that if you say hi to people out in public these days that a large chunk of the population has become antisocial.

There are often times that I look at the last 50 years and wish that I was born in a time before all this so-called connectivity. Having everything "connected" has IMHO distanced people and made them more antisocial.

With all that being said, I do believe that privacy in communication should be more important. If they want to take it away then it will surely happen, regardless of whatever public protest there is.

Now is a good time in the world to take up hobbies that people may have never considered before. Hiking, camping, bowling, pool tournaments, anything you really enjoy doing that isn't connected to some sort of electronic device that is networked. There are millions of things to do outside, and I've found that those things are often times more fun than sitting at home on the computer or txting on a smartphone.

I understand your point and partially agree, but I think you may be underestimating the power of the human mind. Eventually we will have to put our foot down and say enough is enough. It's happened in the past, and it will happen again.

It's too bad that this generation is polluted with poison and media control so you may be right, a lot of us seem to worry more about the upcoming episode of our favorite TV show versus the real world and what's happening.

I just hope that the people of the UK make a fuss about this and let the people behind this that they will not stand for it.

Yep, really not happy !!!

I love the way they try to push the terrorism, ciminal and peadophile angle, whilst claiming its for our "protection", when in all truth the only protection we need is from our own government.

Was reading the comments left on Yahoo today, and many were citing 1984, and saying Orwell got the concept right, but the timing wrong.
