Looks like Syria is going to be the next Libya. The "rebel freedom fighters" are really Islam extremists fighting for their power and supported by NATO.

Although a intervention is highly unlikely but if it does happen, Russia,China will step in this is this there last naval port base and strategic port in the region.

America is just proving to everyone that they want to dominant over everyone they don't like.

Buddy, where ya been?
They are allied with Iran in a mutual defende treaty.....(syria)
They have to go before the all out campaign against Iran...cant have an enemy at yer back whilst taking out the one in front.....
specially one sworn to support the other.....
Isreal has been trying to hang onto the Goan heights which they took in the waar with Syria last time.....
This position gives Isreal command of the area and strong defensive position.....But Syria wants it back of course.....
Isreal is tring to expand its borders any way possible....(those in charge want the oprigonal Jewish homeland of the bible, and wont be satisfied with aught else......
The war will go on till then and beyond....
Syria is armed with chem weapons which are easily delivered to isreal from their country.......the ramifications for Isreal of taking them down a peg or two are sweet.....
Also puts egg on Russian face dont you think?
Even China gets the finger if they pull off getting assad out....
After that it is onward and upward to the NWO!

Have you even bothered to look at where this story is coming from? The link that OP posted clearly states that the World Socialist Web Site is published by the International Committee of the Fourth International. I did not believe for one single moment that anyone had done their duty as deniers of ignorance, so I did it myself.

The ICFI publication from which the article (linked to by OP) is taken, the WSWS (World Socialist Website), was set up and is run by the ICFI . The ICFI was started by Leon Trotsky in 1938. So this publication is no more trust worthy than any of the others if we are being honest about it, since the chances are that it is as full of rhetoric as any other publication, just different rhetoric. More specifically, rhetoric which is likely to be friendly to the inexplicable attitude shown by Russia on this topic, that it is fine for Assad to go round mowing down his own people, as long as there is an opposition to his rule in his nation.

You obviously have not bothered to check out where they got the story in the first place. The leading German news paper FAZ.
www.faz.net...
I took the story from WSWS.org because they were the FIRST to publish it in English. If you take even a cursory look at the content of their English version you will find it full of facts without fabrication. If you prefer and can read German then go to the original source, that is always best anyhooo.

Of course if you prefer the sham fabricated version you can continue to read the propaganda coming our of MSN that bought you the lie revealed by FAZ in the first place.

My position is simple. What you chose to believe may be right or wrong, depending on how your world has been shaped for you, but facts always remain facts, and facts always need to be crosschecked.

I'm not sure it matters. It's a Civil War with no apparent "good guys". It needs to play out on it's own.

With China, Russia and Iran backing one side though, the outcome is preordained.

And YOU obviously havent taken the time to read what the actual article at faz says, not the socialist websites rather dubious 'translation' of it is. Many of the claims on the wsws are not supported by the actual article they cite.

Okay, show us the goods then. Exactly what part of the story in FAZ is distorted by WSWS.org?

You can also check the links to other English sources of the story I included in my OP.

So, are you saying the FSA has tanks and helicopters now?

You think the FSA are simple Farmers and angry citizens? hardly!
the FSA are a rouge military you would think they came empty handed?

Sigh. I never said they were innocent farmers. But YOU claimed that they are using tanks and helicopters supplied by the West. Which is an obviously idiotic and fabricated claim, because NO ONE, even Assad, is claiming the rebels are using tanks and helicopters.

what your response does is engages in a straw man, which is all you ever have. Your posts are nothing more than pro-regime propaganda. Intelligent people on ATS dont trust either 'side', and certainly dont make the sorts of nonsensical claims you have a long list of making.

rebels don't have tanks, or planes, or helicopters. Are you kidding me right now? Russia is more than happy to arm the Syrian army.

While the international media sits around reporting 3rd generation sources because the corporations they work for are too chicken to let them get into Syria, "citizen journalists" or even just citizens risk their lives everyday to bring live feeds of one city in particular, Homs, Syria. For DAYS the Syrian army has been bombarding the city with tanks and artillery at a near constant pace. Houla slaughter could only have been caused by weapons in which only the Syrian army possesses.

EDIT: The MSM has ignored all of these live feeds. And the article at Wikinews that I link to above, I wrote. I can verify that the feeds presented on Bambuser, inside Syria, are authentic. The site goes through a lot of trouble to facilitate these users. CNN Was made famous when they brought the world the first Iraq invasion on television. They have the opportunity to do the same here, and practically ignore Syria altogether.

You are trolling. If you make a claim like that, it is up to you to present the evidence.

I have given the links to supporting sources.

Here is the google search you haven't done. The content of the story also carried on these other sites fully support the WSWS.org article, which happens to contain a better distillation of the facts and analysis in my view than the articles in the majority of the links. Nevertheless the core facts remain the same.

www.google.com...

The rebels committed the atrocity at Houla. The government army were not responsible for it. The continued silence from the rest of the Western MSN speaks volumes. They don't even issue a squeak about this story, even to dismiss it. A cover up for a casus belli (i,e. justification for war) aimed at regime change to put a compliant government in place! It is indeed Libya all over again. Only this time as others have pointed out, Russia and China are making a stand, because they know the threat is aimed ultimately at them both.

I am not really surprised no one else has put this story up in the threads on ATS. I invite others to do the same. People need to pay attention to the truth.

Thats nonsense. The article from faz makes vague references to 'soldiers' (from unnamed sources. The Socialist website you cite, which references the article, changes the wording in their translation to call these soldiers members of the FSA. The faz article makes no mention of this. Anyone who goes and reads the two articles can see that.

FULL ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE GERMAN ARTICLE

June 7, 2012 mato48.wordpress.com... or www.faz.net... abermals-massaker-in-syrien-11776496.html [German original] DAMASCUS -- At least 55 people were killed in a massacre in the village Qubair near Hama in Syria. Activists of the Local Coordination Committee reported even 86 fatalities. Eighteen of the dead are women and children. Many were burned to death in their homes or were stabbed with knives. Most of the dead were members of one family. While the rebels accused the regime militias of murder, the state television made a "terrorist group" responsible for the massacre.

The U.N. observers stationed in Hama wanted to visit Qubair on Thursday. The U.N. observers reported that the Syrian army prevented their access to Qubair. The head of the U.N. observers, General Robert Mood, said that civilians were also blocking the observers. The observers were told, that their safety would not be guaranteed if they should enter the village. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon later on said at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, the observers had been under fire. He called the massacre "shocking and disgusting" and said that Syria's President Bashar al-Assad had "lost all legitimacy."

At first glance the massacre looks similar to the one in Houla, where 108 people were killed on May 25. In the past few days Syrian opposition figures who come from the region have been able to reconstruct the probable course of events in Houla from credible witness reports. The result contradicts rebel claims that Shabiha militias, shielded by the Syrian army, committed the atrocity. The sources don't want to have their names disclosed, because opposition figures who oppose violence have been murdered or at least threatened.

The Houla massacre took place after Friday prayers. Fighting started, when Sunni insurgents attacked the three army checkpoints around Houla. The checkpoints have the purpose of protecting the Alawite villages around the predominantly Sunni Houla against attacks.

One attacked checkpoint called army units from a nearby military base for reinforcement. Dozens of soldiers and rebels were killed in the ensuing battles, which lasted about ninety minutes, and the three villages of Houla were completely cut off from the outside world during the fighting.

According to the eyewitnesses, the massacre occurred during this period. Targeted were almost exclusively families of Houla's Alawite and Shiite minority. More than 90 percent of Houla's population are Sunni. For instance, several dozen members of a family that in recent years converted to Shiite Islam were slaughtered. Killed were also members of the Alawite Shomaliya family and the family of a Sunni member of parliament, who was considered a collaborator. The perpetrators filmed their victims immediately after the massacre, declared them to be Sunni victims, and distributed the videos via the Internet. Representatives of the Syrian government confirmed this version, but pointed out that the government had agreed not to speak publicly about Alawites versus Sunnis. President Bashar al-Assad is a member of the Alawites, the opposition is supported mainly by the Sunni majority.

Meanwhile, Syrian expatriate businessmen in Qatar's capital Doha established a $300 million fund to finance the Syrian opposition and the rebels. Mustafa Sabbagh, president of the Syrian Business Forum in exile, represented the Fund. Wael Mirza, Secretary General of the opposition Syrian National Council, said that half of the amount has already been spent and partly directed to the FSA (Free Syrian Army).

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, meanwhile, called for an international conference about Syria, with all the countries influencing actors in Syria participating. Lavrov said the conference should include countries beyond the "friends of Syria," because this group is supporting only the "radical demands" of the Syrian National Council. Lavrov mentioned in particular members of the U.N. Security Council, the E.U., and the Arab League as well as Turkey and Iran. The aim of the conference should be to implement the Annan plan "correctly and without ambiguity."

Why can't we just take this at face value?
It appears to me that the "rebels" are the very same hundreds of thousands of Syrians that were peacefully protesting Assad's regime 15 months ago. At what point did all of them go from angry Syrian civilians to secretly paid-for Islam Extremists? They just want their freedom... not a secret agenda.

Sure there are now 3rd party elements involved in the conflict who want to sway the outcome to help their agenda, but I do not buy that the entire Free Syrian Army is a puppet of Western powers.

This is a problem because our international security interests promote capitalism and free trade. The Syrian government does not even permit tourists. Their people are overruled and underrepresented by Assad's totalitarian regime. Assad's regime offers ZERO civil liberty by imposing ridiculous laws.

MSM will spread as much anti-Assad information in order to promote intervention by foreign governments and a national desire for intervention. Although, it is not our duty to intervene with the likes of other nations, I strongly believe that there is no more room on this planet for totalitarian dictatorships.

Can someone provide me a link to the original article published by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. It is a pretty reputable newspaper, and has a relatively large world wide circulation for a German newspaper. In fact it is more commonly read abroad than Der Spiegel.

This shouldn't be surprising one bit considering the fact that the religious leaders of FSA stated that killing or massacring Alawite women and children is OK, as seen in the video below:

Excellent find, we have been saying it here at ATS, do not fall for the war propaganda and have another Libya situation.

US is once again interfering in other peoples affairs and for this reason 911 happened and for this reason US embassies are being bombed in Libya as a result of blowback

Why is US so interested in Syria? Is it because the road to Iran is via Syria? Weaken up Iran's allies so that either NATO or Israel can perform a strike on Iran?

Why does NATO want to kill more civilians like they did in Libya?

Why does NATO want a terrorist rebel government like they did in Libya?

Are we going to be finding 'WMDs' again and using propaganda tricks such as this: www.abovetopsecret.com...
