The Russian forces are blunt instruments.they aren't a defensive force that would aid anyone. If they show up in Syria they would be crucified by the UN or kill the observers.

Lol, first of all let me be the first to say I hate your government and your militaries actions, but not America as a whole, as every country has wonderful people inhabiting it. Now, most people who you consider to, "hate America," also hate Al Qaeda. As Al Qaeda is simply a tool of the United States government.

Yea, Harper is to blame for most of it. He has systematically been eliminating all social funding(child care for example), cutting billions of dollars while at the same time giving big corporations even more billions in tax cuts. He has allowed corporate food producers to conduct their own safety inspections. He has eliminated so many environmental programs it's startling. Went 35% above emission levels when we were legally bind to go 6% lower, which gives us the worst environmental record of all G8 nations.

He shows no regard for democracy as he's prorouged parliament twice(and he's the only prime minister in commonwealth history, not just Canada, to be found in contempt of parliament). Refuses to sign a UN declaration advocating clean water as a human right. As well as that he's guilty of treason for his actions in Libya under the Criminal Code of Canada.

He has a massive ego, actually renaming the, "Government of Canada," to the, "Harper Government."He decorated the Government lobby of Parliament with pictures of himself instead of past prime ministers, as had been tradition. He actually chooses which reporters get to ask him pre-approved questions. Elected ministers of Parliament cannot give an interview or give a public speech and no public agency can make any statement without his office's permission.

Here's just a few things he has done in his short time in office. Thanks for your words of encouragement, both our nations need drastic change, I really hope we achieve some change for good in at least one of our countries to put pressure on the other.

So any more news on this? Any more sources? Or has this just spiraled into a philisophical "what if Russia sent troops to Syria" thread?

I know some people will never learn. Majority of these threads are America bashing and NATO hating. I guess it is what it is. Sure America has done bad things, but so have many other countries. They throw it in our face we throw it back.

Smart move on the Russian's part.

I hope thats it and not the start of some crazy russian plan to try and get more psychically involved in the M.E.

Civil unrest is quite the cover.
I wonder would they orchestrate some civil unrest in armenia and then wait for iran?
Just as a way to balance out the Wests involvement in the M.E

And a question about the west bashing. Yeah theres loads of # that bad in the west but would you really want to live like they do in china or N.K? trust me as much as you want change in the west living like those guys do is a lot worse then what you got now.

Death squads? Listen here, if you want to talk about death squads, check out Iraq and Afghanistan and maybe even Libya because what Assad is doing is no different to US forces in the above countries. You only justify them because it is your country and they gave you a pile of spew to believe.

Before the terrorists in Syria started firing on anything and anyone, tell me what sort of country Syria was. I guarantee, it was nothing like it is today and Assad was not running around with his army killing civilians. Even if he is killing civilians, have you ever wondered that maybe the terrorists are using built up areas to contribute to this as well? Everytime I see FSA fighters, they are always in a town or something and have no regard for the poor people who are living there. They re no better than the Syrian army.

With that also, the USA and other countries are arming the FSA, Russia are arming the Syrian army. I hope the Russians go full scale in there simply because i am sick of seeing US forces turn countries into piles of rubble while they tell the world the are liberating countries. Check out the Libyan constitution while Gaddafi was in power. Check out the Saudi laws on women (considering the Saudis are close allies to the USA), check out how many people have died in Iraq after Saddam and tell me Assad is still a blood thirsty dictator.

The Syrians are backing there leader where you believe that or not. The Syrian army have no reason to kill innocent civilians and I hope they win the war against a western backed, multi-grouped militia who want nothing more than to turn Syria into another Libya and take control for their own selfish agenda. The more I see about the situation in Syria, the more I want Assad to defeat the FSA. I do not follow terrorist activities and ever since this war started, all i have seen is one massive terrorist attack against a sovereign nation.

Call me cynical, but I see an action like Lybia as a prime opportunity to cleanse the battlefield of unsavory parties.

It's a classic honeypot. Hey guys, we got some goodies for you. Get to know which elements are friend and foe by their interaction, or avoidance of Allied forces. Ok, well then it's not too hard to clean-up the loose ends on a lawless battlefield, like Lybia, armed to the teeth. Just go ahead and look at the Allies funny, it doesn't matter which "side" you are on...cluster bombs for dinner.

Bad things happen to bad people. It's just a matter of accepting and understanding the ancient and epic notion that, in doing justice, you become unjust yourself. Some interpret it as a caution, I find it a source of comfort. It explains the cognitive dissonance.

Russia is all talk. They'll be trilled to hold onto Tyre.

W/e, direct war against Syria isn't going to happen. This will be solved through a good old proxy war Cold War style, and at the moment it seems Assad is winning. And thank god for that, the rebels seem like a bunch of maniacs. According to reports I've seen so far, they've tried to get western journalists killed, they've massacred civilians, and they persecute religious minorities if they don't join the fight against Assad (and why would they, Assad has provided safety to religious minorities in the country). The hypocrisy of the west is absolutely amazing, both from the politicians and the media. Supporting Saudi-Arabia, selling them weapons to suppress opposition both domestically and abroad, and then whining about Assad? It's making me sick.

Come on, of course America has been there on the fringe since the beginning, this is what the Phoenix and Monarch programs were envisioned for. special forces training local fighters to fight, assassinate targets and use propaganda for their own benefit in exactly this (and lybia) style of conflict.

Read this also, and I think it was reported on RT. Which is a russian station of course, so would probably be correct. Russia sending troops to protect assets in Syria.

en.wikipedia.org...

"Capacity: 10 main battle tanks and 200 troops or 12 BTR and 340 troops or 3 main battle tanks, 3 2S9 «Nona-S», 5 MT-LB, 4 army trucks and 313 troops or 500 tons of cargo"

Jesus, looks like the Ruskis aren't taking any chances.
I doubt they will be bringing tanks but they could easily carry a few hundred marines with some heavy firepower (GPMGs, Mortars, RPGs, MLANs etc)

"Russia", Neposedy, one of the top bands for children and teens in Russia,

some of the lyrics:
"Time came to think of you and me,...
"Future came into our hands,...
we are young and we make miracles,
our planet needs to be saved.

"It is good when the children laugh,
It is well to be peace on the planet"
....
Citizen of Russia is a serious person
Our creed is the professional...
We set the new roadsigns, We are the elite of the new world...
In the name of Russia work and live,
Honest and brave always we want to be.

"It is good when the children laugh,
It is well to be peace on the planet"

Present the mood created among the young Russians. New elite of the world! Save the planet!

Why not several tanks around the port? Others will come shortly. Let see. Russia cannot afford to lose the only base in the world, after agreeing silently on several countries to be regime-changed, Lybia the last one, Iraq, Kosovo, or the entrance of former USSR republics in NATO, with infrastructure built to oppose NATO incl radars. There should be a red line, and that red line seems is Syria. Otherwise they should leave Mideast, go back to Caucasus on defense and battle Al Qaeda in Chechnya. Something they did in 1990s. And ultimately lose the Russian federation to its pieces, the way it happened with USSR. Not this time with this president and supporters.
