good idea.At least the falklanders won't have to support the freeloader royal thug family.I support this totally. If Scotland was independent it would have been rich like Dubai and Kuwait ,instead it is having to face austerity due to royal family's and british govt's extravagant habits and corruption.

You stole it from the indiginous people.

The Islands were uninhabited, there were no indiginous people.

The only indiginous people in the region were those on the mainland which the Argentinian colonists proceeded to slaughter to almost extinction levels.

We've had this arguement before - I suspect you are arguing purely for the sake of it - and if you insist on continuing to incorrectly use the term England instead of the UK just to antagonise and annoy I may have to bloody your nose!

And China is far too busy with it's many other interests to concern itself with The Falklands.

And the source you provided about the settlers is clearly wrong; the first British settlers of The Falkland Islands were Scottish - a trend that continued along with a fair sprinkling of Welsh, some of whom also emmigrated to Patagonia on the mainland.

Strange how you blindly believe anything that has a blatant anti-UK bias yet refuse to acknowledge anything that portrays the UK in even a slightly positive slant - suggests to me that your anti-UK bigotry clouds your impartiality and any attempt at critical thinking.

I honestly couldn't care less whether the Falklands ends up under Argentine rule or not, as long as the PEOPLE LIVING THERE are the ones to make that choice themselves.

Exactly.
But that's a choice that many would deny them purely on the grounds of pursuing their anti-British bigotry.

sure yet the queen gets to party while the peasants suffer austerity.Your constitution has been dumped into the hole by the rothschilds and monarchy.

And how exactly is any of that relevant to this thread?

Just another opportunity for you to spew your anti-British bile.

Pathetic.

It costs us to be in the old empire as well. Australia has so many reasons to become a Republic. There is no good reason to pander to the English. None at all. They are losers just like the United States. Thier Imperial Governments have failed.

No doubt some Falkland islanders will get rich from the oil, but like many people who are British they will share it with the rest of us
.
I say good on em
they are a plucky bunch, I have a pal who was stationed in the Falklands and he was a army chef and on his afternoon he had to wait for planes to land then go and pick up all the penguins who had fallen over watching the planes land (They fell on their backs) and he said its a barren hell hole.

Urban myth about the Penguins you know - at least according to a couple of squaddies i know who have also been stationed there over the years.

Also had a mate in the Paras who was at Goose Green - he isn't reliable for anything apart from a pint though!

Found it, the further secret docs were released by La Nacion, an Argentine newspaper.

A heart attack caused death stopped the deal...

So, there was a 1968 plan to full transfer and a 1974 plan to share the islands and make it bilingual.

Neither plan was successful

Not BBC found in a quick search but equivalent The Week.

La Nacion has the scanned slightly degraded(bit of effort to read some parts) document.

www.lanacion.com.ar/1455991-la-propuesta-secreta-de-los-ingleses-a-peron-por-las-malvinas

It was under the table proposal, unofficial document.

Britain and Argentina were on verge of sharing Falklands

Foreign Office proposed UK and Argentina take turns to appoint Falklands governor in 1974 document
BY Tim Edwards LAST UPDATED AT 16:00 ON Wed 14 Mar 2012

www.theweek.co.uk/americas/falkland-islands/45857/britain-and-argentina-were-verge-sharing-falklands

BRITAIN was on the verge of entering negotiations with Argentina in 1974 which might have seen a Falkland Islands governor appointed by Buenos Aires, according to a Foreign Office document from the time.

The extraordinary letter reveals that even the Falklanders had agreed to talks on shared sovereignty. But the British offer was withdrawn within weeks following the death of President Juan Domingo Perón.

Argentine newspaper La Nacion has a full copy of the letter, in English, which was handed to President Perón by the then British ambassador to Argentina, James Hutton.

I agree. It is about who lives there now. So give them the oil. They can go socialist and all build mansions. They will be the most wealthy 3000 people in the world

The Islanders will become very wealthy indeed.

But so will the investors and employees who will provide the wherewithal to extract, convert and transport the oil.

None of which the Islanders will be able to do by themselves.

Did you not read my link? The Argentinians had settled. You 'ethnic cleansed' the islands.

And it is not incorrect to use the term England. The cowardly English cannot continue to hide itself under the blanket of the UK. Your Government is a loser. A loser just like the United states Government is a loser. They are losers.

What does the US offer? What does England offer? Consumers? Whoopie! China is the future. Get with the program.

edit- And are you not some kind of 'anarchist'? And you cheer for Imperialism?
A patriotic Anarchist?

And, as previously stated, the UK has very good relations with China these days.

If not, why do the top brass send their kids here for school?

To stay on topic, this issue will not be put to bed until the Falklanders decide their own future, regardless of what others may think.

Have you even been to the UK? both you and germanicus? why all the hate? Jealous?
We are Great nation for hundreds of years we have let people come into our country and help shape our culture to what it is today.
Just look at what the British have given to the world from the electric kettle to the WWW.
Young people from all over the world come to Britain every year to study because we have the best universities in the world.
We don't need to sell goods anymore we can sell ourselves and our ideas.

The Chinese play your game to beat you at it. And they did. They destroyed the Imperial Empire. Now we move toward endgame. Are you so naive? I mention China because they are against American style Imperialism just like most of the world is. Things will be different. Think hard.

Unless of course they want to retain their UK soveriegnty.

I support this totally

But it's irrelevant what you support - you have no say in the matter - it's about The Right To Self-Determination - but perhaps you choose to ignore this right in this instance as it contradicts your pre-conceived bigotry and hatred?

If Scotland was independent it would have been rich like Dubai and Kuwait

Actually Scotland is facing nowhere near the levels of austerity cuts that England is because they have quite a large say in their own governing through the Scottish parliament in Holyrood.

And they would have been nowhere as rich as Dubai etc as there is nowhere near as much oil there.....and current estimates are that if Scotland was fully independant between 30 and 40% of the UK's North Sea Oil would actually be in English territorial waters.

Wrong on all accounts I'm afraid, yet again....you really haven't got the hang of this have you - perhaps if you didn't let your bigotry get in the way of the truth you'd be a bit better at it.

,instead it is having to face austerity due to royal family's and british govt's extravagant habits and corruption.

Anyone remember Tibet? Anyone find it on to-days maps? Did the Tibetans have a vote on whether they joined China? anyone care? So, if the population of those islands in the south Atlantic want to be British, why shouldn't they be British????

Do you honestly think that a socialists government with that much untapped wealth cannot get credit to run a Nationalized Oil industry? You think the BRICS Bank might be interested in that perhaps?

Strange how the Scots are always bleating how its Scotland's oil, yet its nowhere near Scotland, and just how much money did Scotland invest in searching for the damned stuff, and pay for the extraction of the oil?

It will not matter soon.

The Imperial Empire is almost dead.

Imperial military footholes will not matter. England wants all that oil. I dont think the Chinese will allow them to have it when they are sole superpower very soon.

They do not have a large enough population to justify self determination or lay claim anyway. This is nothing more than an english publicity stunt.

No dear Germanicus, Elisabeth Rex, still and greater than ever, how can you think otherwise as you sit in a Commonwealth country? Look what's happening in Europe, the euro is dying and all of the money is going to the City of London. Did you ever stop and wonder why the UK still has the pound as it's currency? Why didn't Great Britain go to the Euro like the rest of Europe? Perhaps the demise of the Euro was orchestrated by her majesties goverment to rip off the rest of europe? No she controls it all. Parliment is a farce, she rules the show, they just do all the dirty work in her garden, whilst she tends the roses when she feels like it. As far as the thread, well I think you already know how I feel about imperialism. How about the Faukland Islanders claim independence and keep the oil for themselves? I mean thats what all this jingoistic bullsh$t is about right, its the Oil? Peace to you and yours and have one of those nice Aussie beers for me ( or two or twenty) Just make sure that it's organic, don't want to see you or anybody poison yourself with some Monsanto pestacides and fertilizers..those freakin scumbags!

Australia was set up as a Red Coat Penal Colony with English prisoners.

It was settled by great Free Settlers from around the world and grew quickly because of our national wealth. Gold Rush. You should read about the great Australian Peter Lalor. Eureka Stockade. Peter Lalor rose to power from that. Australia was born. We are a fair go nation so we welcomed the English prsoners into our Free communities that Aussies had settled. Not criminals at all. And what is wrong with Islam?

Australia is relevent to the topic because our nation was a product of English Imperialism.

Imperialism is the crux of the Las Malvinas debate.
