The Islands were uninhabited, there were no indiginous people.

The only indiginous people in the region were those on the mainland which the Argentinian colonists proceeded to slaughter to almost extinction levels.

We've had this arguement before - I suspect you are arguing purely for the sake of it - and if you insist on continuing to incorrectly use the term England instead of the UK just to antagonise and annoy I may have to bloody your nose!

And China is far too busy with it's many other interests to concern itself with The Falklands.

And the source you provided about the settlers is clearly wrong; the first British settlers of The Falkland Islands were Scottish - a trend that continued along with a fair sprinkling of Welsh, some of whom also emmigrated to Patagonia on the mainland.

Strange how you blindly believe anything that has a blatant anti-UK bias yet refuse to acknowledge anything that portrays the UK in even a slightly positive slant - suggests to me that your anti-UK bigotry clouds your impartiality and any attempt at critical thinking.

It costs us to be in the old empire as well. Australia has so many reasons to become a Republic. There is no good reason to pander to the English. None at all. They are losers just like the United States. Thier Imperial Governments have failed.

No doubt some Falkland islanders will get rich from the oil, but like many people who are British they will share it with the rest of us .
I say good on em they are a plucky bunch, I have a pal who was stationed in the Falklands and he was a army chef and on his afternoon he had to wait for planes to land then go and pick up all the penguins who had fallen over watching the planes land (They fell on their backs) and he said its a barren hell hole.

Urban myth about the Penguins you know - at least according to a couple of squaddies i know who have also been stationed there over the years.

Also had a mate in the Paras who was at Goose Green - he isn't reliable for anything apart from a pint though!

Found it, the further secret docs were released by La Nacion, an Argentine newspaper.

A heart attack caused death stopped the deal...

So, there was a 1968 plan to full transfer and a 1974 plan to share the islands and make it bilingual.

Neither plan was successful

BRITAIN was on the verge of entering negotiations with Argentina in 1974 which might have seen a Falkland Islands governor appointed by Buenos Aires, according to a Foreign Office document from the time.

The extraordinary letter reveals that even the Falklanders had agreed to talks on shared sovereignty. But the British offer was withdrawn within weeks following the death of President Juan Domingo Perón.

Argentine newspaper La Nacion has a full copy of the letter, in English, which was handed to President Perón by the then British ambassador to Argentina, James Hutton.

But so will the investors and employees who will provide the wherewithal to extract, convert and transport the oil.

Did you not read my link? The Argentinians had settled. You 'ethnic cleansed' the islands.

We are Great nation for hundreds of years we have let people come into our country and help shape our culture to what it is today.
Just look at what the British have given to the world from the electric kettle to the WWW.
Young people from all over the world come to Britain every year to study because we have the best universities in the world.
We don't need to sell goods anymore we can sell ourselves and our ideas.

Actually Scotland is facing nowhere near the levels of austerity cuts that England is because they have quite a large say in their own governing through the Scottish parliament in Holyrood.

And they would have been nowhere as rich as Dubai etc as there is nowhere near as much oil there.....and current estimates are that if Scotland was fully independant between 30 and 40% of the UK's North Sea Oil would actually be in English territorial waters.

Wrong on all accounts I'm afraid, yet again....you really haven't got the hang of this have you - perhaps if you didn't let your bigotry get in the way of the truth you'd be a bit better at it.

Australia was set up as a Red Coat Penal Colony with English prisoners.

It was settled by great Free Settlers from around the world and grew quickly because of our national wealth. Gold Rush. You should read about the great Australian Peter Lalor. Eureka Stockade. Peter Lalor rose to power from that. Australia was born. We are a fair go nation so we welcomed the English prsoners into our Free communities that Aussies had settled. Not criminals at all.
