I stand by what I said - the poll is silly.

I would like to understand the position that this is a silly or stupid poll... I don't get it.

It's no one's business who a person votes for, what religion they are, what they think about gun ownership, or if they believe in angels, either, but we see polls on these issues all the time. Are they stupid as well? What makes this poll stupid and the others legitimate?

No but the way you typed made me think that you were in a huff and puff over this trivial thing.

I'm not disagreeing on the silly part.

Can you explain why this is a silly poll compared to others I've listed above? I'm not getting it. Thanks.

The new polling number is significantly hire than a similar poll in the 1990s

www.inquisitr.com...

Maybe I'm just being a grammar Nazi. But it's hard for me to take the writer of this article serious.

When he can't even use the words "hire" and "higher" in their correct places.

Isn't there an editor for those types of things usually?

I know, I know. The poll came from CNN.

Edit your title too.

I would say that this poll is silly AND stupid as it can be (and probably will be) used to further divide.

As said before, I don't care what goes on behind someone else’s bedroom doors. I tell buds to shut up when they start bragging about their conquests.

I’ve had guys hit on me (Shudder) and I look them in the eye and tell them, “sorry man, I’m straight.” Does it creep me out? Yep. But I’m sure I’ve creeped out plenty of girls by asking them to dance or a date as well.

I would say that polls be renamed as they only give a small cross segmant of what society as a whole thinks.

This poll is like asking people, "Do you have any black, white, jewish, muslim, etc, etc, etc friends?"

That is it in a nutshell.

I thought the whole point was to "mainstream" the gay issue, not make it a "separate but equal" stature.

btw I have one Indigo friend. His name is Carl. I punch him in the arm whenever I see him.

People can't tell by just looking at someone or even talking to them if that person is gay.
Well ... unless that person is flaming or something.

I can say that I have friends that are jewish, muslim (mostly at work), christian, gay and lesbian. A conservative or three as well.

Just the trick is to forget about politics, forget about CNN polls and most of all, forget about personal biases and just interact as friends.

It's silly. Unless someone is really flaming up, you have no idea what their sexual dealings are.
And ... it's none of our business (unless that person is chummy and wants to talk).
Danbones is right ... the person you work with or go to lunch (or church) with could be gay.
You don't know. You don't need to know.

1 - so what?
2 - it's none of our business.
3 - like the other posters alluded to ... it's like those old polls of white people .. 'do you have a black friend'? The insinuation of the poll is ... If so you are progressive and good and if not, then you need to go out and make one so you can fit in with the rest of the world or something. Go out and collect 'friends' based upon their skin color or their sexual practices just to be 'in'. The poll doesn't say that .. but that's the feeling given off ...

Gay rights = civil rights. I'm all for it.
Making a poll like this is silly and has nothing to do with gay rights.
And it's going to be 'off' anyways ... we don't have a magic looking glass into everyones bedrooms.

So OP....why did you interject the word "still" into your title when the original never used the word?

Original article is quoted literally. Yes, I have put the word still and changed boy friend to boyfriend (as I don't have to use the same title in forum). Why ?- Let you think a little how you are manipulated by media, polls and statistics.

Let's bad mouth America some more, YAY socialism!

Ha! Socialism is the issue of our time. The issue of the now.

And I try to only bag the government and its supporters.

This poll is an obvious attempt to distract the masses from the important things like the solution of socialism. They want people arguing over abortion and gay rights and racial tension and women that kill their children.......

Socialism is actually important. Constructive criticism is important.

And I second your "Yay socialism".

Socialism will not fix peoples perceived opinions…well, not without re-education camps.
And socialism is not the issue of our time, unless the individual wants to make it so. It has been around for centuries in one form or another. But that is for a different thread/Post.

But I do agree that this is a decisive poll, meant to inflame, not educate.

The article isn't quoted "literally" than... you are paraphrasing and interjecting your own stance. Which is okay, but you pass it off and continue to pass it off as the stance of the poll...which it isn't.

That is why I question you on why you put it in there. Just give a valid answer, rather than trying to spin and manipulate and dip and dodge.

This instantly reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where George felt he had to get a black friend to prove he wasnt racist.

Isn't that the truth though? You "STILL" don't have a black friend?! Oh my! How disastrous! I cannot believe this social injustice! Lets make a poll!

When homosexuals make up at best three percent of any given population, you're not as likely to have a gay friend or relative as the pro-gay crowd would like to think.

That's what the poll is missing, the fact that homosexuals make up a small portion of society.

And I really don't like the insinuation of the article that you have to have a gay friend. I decide who my friends are and no one gets to tell me otherwise.

On a rational note; I'd go as far to say that a good chunk of Americans don't have ANY friends.

So this type of poll would likely turn out similar on any group of 'friends' they are trying to survey..

How many people out there are single-parents who don't get to go out much, workaholic businessmen, elderly and reclusive, those with social anxiety or depression, or too painfully shy to make friends?

In my line of work; I run across plenty of people on a continuous basis who fit one of these bills or another...

Bravo! Actually the poll was fairly neutral...the OP interjected their "still" and insinuated the notion of shame that 40% STILL don't have a gay friend -- or gayfriend as the OP calls it.

I don't have any "gay friends" nor do I want any.
If that's your thing then do it,
I don't have to like it, be friends with you or subject my family to your "alternative" lifestyle.

I don't bash gay people or drive around looking for one to beat up but on the other hand i don't have to socialize with them either.

I also don't believe your "born that way", it's a learned behavior in my opinion.

And this is the heart of Free Association -- if you want to have all black friends....go for it. If you want to only have Republican friends.....that's fine too.

This is what I am trying to get the OP to comment on -- but so far they haven't. I believe they think its a travesty that Americans "still" are not friends with gay people.
