I will

Hopefully my mistake reminded a few to get those cards in the mailbox, if anyone still does that.

I love my kids. Often enjoy being with them, raising them.

Everyone is sure you're an idiot though. Every mom is a genius. The public assumes that if you are a male parent in 2012, then you are a drunk, a spouse-beater, non-communicative, distant or some other variety of screwed up. Basically, that you have no clue.

Happy Father's Day indeed.

I think its unfair to say "everyone".

I for one don't assume every father is an idiot, and I think the general public doesn't as well.

Yes, there are some fathers that don't take their responsibilities seriously, and there are mothers like that as well.

This world has many "broken" souls who are unfit to parent due to issues they deal with. Some try and seek help, and others just flounder. I don't hate them, just wish they could get help.

There are also great parents out there in both genders, and I think the general public knows that.

I'm saddened to read that you think fathers aren't appreciated, because they are. Most important are the children that appreciate them, despite what others think, even if they do have issues that they are dealing with.

My wife and kids appreciate me, which is what counts. So no problem there.

But just look at "TV Dads" in Commercials.

Name me a sitcom from this millennium with a positive image of a dad --not a bumbling butt for other characters' jokes.

But it's more serious than that

In this US culture, a woman in the company of children is assumed to be the mother and legal guardian, whether or not she looks like them. A male is NOT automatically assumed to be the father / legal guardian any more. Try out the following situations:

There are times when I go to pick up my kids from schools, and I need to show ID as a male, when my wife doesn't. The moms look at you when you on school property, mentally calculating whether or not you look like an abductor.

-picking up children a a "walk-in" from childcare. A woman is often assumed to be the parent/guardian. Men are always required to show ID.

-If you are stopped by police for a routine traffic violation, the officer asks whether the child in the back is yours. (A friend pointed this out to me last year. I noticed it in April when I was stopped for speeding. I asked the officer why he asked, and was told "routine.")
