You did not read the op did you... It was about the term not banning content. There are already several terms meant to inflame that are banned by the T&C. The term Birthers is used for exactly the same purpose and ought be added to the list to preserve reasonable amicable conversation. It amounts to a loophole that a number of people use to name call without getting slapped by mods and they use it excessively for that express purpose as even those defending it in this thread illustrate quite well.

I'm still waiting for you do explain what about "birthers" is inflammatory or insulting, other than the fact that YOU perceive it to be that way?

ETA: I have to ask, would you bet better with it if people stopped saying birther, and started saying "people who refuse to accept Obama's BC"?

This thread is rediculous.

Banning people because you don't like a word they use to describe themselves or an ideology is pretty dumb... What is this Germany circa 1940? Come on folks. Let's grow up a bit.

Your post is ridiculous because you did not even take the time to read the OP and realize this thread is not about Banning people... Sigh!

Because 90% of all the mods on ats are either birthers or republicans,so they dont care,it's so obvious !

You've personally spoken with, and know all the mods political ideologies? Please.

What a dumb reply.

I guarantee you that 90% of the mods on ats are either birthers or republicans, thats a fact. It doesn’t take a genius on how many threads these mods let stay up that are blatantly disrespectful towards obama or democrats as a whole.

They have the statistics on how many republicans there are on the ats and that’s why they let every one get a way with it.

No no no, you have it backwards, this is EXACTLY the way to go about it. We should ban "liberals", "conservatives", "truthers", "gay", "straight", "black", "Asian", "white", "redneck"....anyone of those terms can be used as inflammatory rhetoric. Better ban 'em all!!!

Cuz, ya know, thats the way to deal with those who dont agree with you.

And, for the record, the OP uses the term "liberal" in the EXACT way he is using as reasoning for trying to get "birther" banned. Pot, meet Mr. Kettle.

I guarantee you're wrong. I know a good percentage of the mods here and have spoken with them many times.

90 percent, no way. What's it matter any way? They are just as free to their opinions as you and I. Why keep trying to divide people even more? Nearly all the mods here used to be just regular members, like us.

Another request that I am sure you will ignore: Please cite examples of these terms that you keep referring to.

Ding ding ding.

Just because I don't agree with you, you automatically assume I am this title or that title. In this case a republican and a birther. That's the kind of attitude that has to change, flat out.

I am neither of those I assure you, but I do believe that republicans, birthers, liberals, conservatives, WHATEVER, have the right to be such. As long as people can bring things to the forum in a respectful manner I don't care what they want to identify themselves as.

For The record I do not use the term Liberal anywhere!

On another note I want to thank you for all your posts on this thread you represent the people who use the term "Birther" derogatorily quite nicely with all your animosity derogatory and inflammatory comments. I could not have a better example.

I have no idea if this will help in the least influence ATS on a slight rules change or not ATS is not a democracy but it is a problem that needed to be brought to light.

Thanks again

This is all about what's politically correct in your eyes. That the bottom line.

Why not just ignore the term instead of wanting to swing the ban hammer.

When did ATS become the realm of political correctness any way? Why not change 'Deny Ignorance' to Don't be Factually encumbered! While we're at it lets get rid of all words you deem politically incorrect and replace them with the correct versions.

Birther - denier of Obamas birth certificate

Incompetent - Specially skilled

Dead - life challenged

Hillary Clinton would be so proud.

Um no, it's not.

The term birther simply expedites things. It's faster than saying "people who believe Obama is not eligible to be president due to his place of birth or father's nationality" and it is a generic term with no implied connotations. If left up to the birthers to choose what they would like to be called they would come up with something like truther or Defender of Liberty. These terms do have connotations involved with them. They imply that those who buy into birther conspiracies are right and that those who are against aren't only wrong but that they are intentionally obfuscating the truth or hate Liberty. The only reason you perceive the term birther as being derogatory is because of the birthers themselves. They have bought into and produced so many lies that they have made themselves a joke to the vast majority of the country.

So if you want to blame anyone for the negative connotations behind the term you only have your fellow birthers to blame. The term started with no connotations. It was merely a way to quickly describe people with these beliefs. The birthers brought these connotations on themselves through their actions and now they must live with the consequences.

I am all for complete free speech, however ATS has chosen to limit speech and ban political trolling meant to inflame posters get over it. The term birthers is used for no other purpose then political trolling and causes a lot of problems they are trying to minimize and should be classified as political trolling. I can't use the term Obamtard to label obama followers as they feel it is political trolling. Birthers is used the exact same way and should fall under the same category IMO.

No one who uses the term birther is using it benignly they use it in place of Idiot morons baffoons etc as this thread even illustrates as one poster spilled it. None of them could deny it with a straight face if you could look them in the eye. So stop whining about your free speech because you do not have it on ATS cart blanc and you are free to leave if you don't like it. Putting "birthers" on the political trolling list is not that big a deal as that is the only context in which it is used. But look at all the people desperate for it not to happen in the name of free speech They are scared their backdoor name calling and political trolling will finally be shut on them...
