White phosphorus: The new napalm?

www.salon.com

an 8-year-old Afghan girl, Razia, was injured when a white phosphorus shell ripped through her home in the Tagab Valley of Kapisa province in June 2009. When she reached the operating room, white powder covered her skin, the oxygen mask on her face started to melt, and flames appeared when doctors attempted to scrape away the dead tissue

White phosphorus munitions cause particularly severe injuries, including chemical burns down to the bone. Wounds contaminated by white phosphorus can reignite

It's fairly said that white phosphorus is being used by the military as much as bleach.

The article states that White Phosphorus are generally designed to be used as smokescreens, but all you need is dense smoke, why does that smoke need to be corrosive?

I really hope they stop using this weapon.
Torture and now a next-gen napalm?

It's pretty scary

en.wikipedia.org... still legal surprisingly

en.wikipedia.org...

i guess it depends on where its used but they seem to have a good deal of excuses for why they do what they do but i think this quote from wiki about napalm pretty much sums up the though processes of our weapons makers.......their brains must work differently then most/normal people

A US army source, talking about napalm, reported[16] ‘We sure are pleased with those backroom boys at Dow. The original product wasn’t so hot - if the (censored) were quick they could scrape it off. So the boys started adding polystyrene - now it sticks like s(censored) to a blanket. But if the (censored) jumped under water it stopped burning, so they started adding Willie Peter (white phosphorus) so’s to make it burn better. And just one drop is enough, it’ll keep on burning right down to the bone so they die anyway from phosphorus poisoning.’

Wow.....You're bitching about wille pete?Thats the best way to clear a gun nest with a 203,but I wouldn't carry that in a city of non combatants. That would be wrong and you get what you were just saying. I don't think artillery or aircraft use that any more, just the grenades so It would be the fault of the individual or command
I think they even pulled the 40mm rounds as well.At least from the Army.

Well the doctors failed at being doctors because the reason white phosphor is so energetic is that it oxidized very quick so putting an oxygen mask on her is just gonna cause increase in oxidation of the P.

Here's some info on white phosphorus with an Iraq war vet talking about how it was used during the battle of Fallujah.

It also talks about MK77 which IS the next generation Napalm. Apparently they just changed the recipe slightly so it was no longer considered "napalm", but still has the same effect.

White Phosphorus has been used in warfare since WWI.
White Phosphorus

Napalm was used in WWII beginning in 1944. It was basically used as a cost effective alternative to other incendiary compositions, and was more readily available.
Napalm

Napalm was the additive that was put into gasoline to thicken it and make it burn more slowly. White phosphorus is often used as an initiator in napalm devices.

White phosphorus is a very effective incendiary weapon, but it has issues with storage due to it's chemical volatility.... Compared with napalm.

The guys with White Flags are the ones that blow up. Bad thing about Islamist. They make everyone an enemy very fast , because they use Children , Women , and Innocent men to confuse the people trying to kill the Hostiles by making you mis-trust the Civilians.

The dress like em , lie like em , talk like em , eat like em , and blow up just like em.

The Phosi is more of a Psychological weapon , it isnt highly used , but has shown great effictiveness agaisnt insurgents in buildings. However , insurgents hide in the nurseys with kids in them. So. Dont blame us , we dont get to see what is in there until we clear the building. All we know is , this dude is in that window letting lose a lot of lead. He needs to die.

The use of Phos was greatly reduced because of the insuregents using innocent people as shields. You kill one terrorist and kill a family of 4 or 5.

If kids are in there with em , well , lets be honest here , they are # out of luck. This is the Military , not a police force. Good chance we arent going to be throwing grenades into a nursey , but again , you dont find this crap out until you clear the building.

Rarely do you hear the women and children screaming , either to much gunfire , or they sit there and keep their mouth shut. The only time you hear them scream is when you shoot them or we kill the insurgent and they come running out.

Killing People in general should be illegal. Chemical or Conventional weapons it doesn't matter Even during war what gives you the right to say that person deserves to die. Killing some one to get what you want is an extremely immature way of handling a situation. This world has a lot of growing up to do.

White phosphorus has been around since at least the Korean War, it's hardly new.

It's a very, very nasty thing to deal with, for both the people hit by it and the doctors trying to operate on them.

This weapon should be banned by UN treaty.

Well lets see. Hopefully Timothy McVeigh is rotting in hell for taking out a federal building with kids in it.
The crimes you and people like you have committed far exceed what McVeigh had done.
Hell is to good a place for those that kill innocents.

I like how people like you like to dehumanize these people by calling them insurgents. There not. They are Human Beings that happen to be defending their homes from invading armies. Killing over 1,000,000 people can be justified in no way. These people arnt using families as human shield that's just BS the Army uses as an excuse for for killing large number of civilians. You need to get your head out of your @ss and stop think that the US is doing this for the good of the world because their not their doing it for personal gain, and they dont care who they kill in the process. The only reason why these people hate us so much is because we have committed genocide on there friends families and neighbors.

I'd say using depleted uranium on shells is slightly more alarming than this, although they're both pretty vicious weapons.

Your very right doctors in Falluja have told women to stop having babies because there is over 50% chance that there going to have a major genetic deformity or disorder form the use of U238. It causes Heavy metal poisoning and radioactive contamination. One of the main causes of GWS.
PS I have almost that exacted same image tattooed on my left shoulder but theirs a lotus design around it and is colored

The most psychotic creeps in the universe seem to be running our planet and we the people need to shout NO with bullhorns and never vote for any of them, send them a no vote message and start to work at choosing your own people only, never ever again vote in any of them.

Treatment Initially, contaminated clothing should be removed to prevent re-ignition. Treating skin exposed to WP requires irrigation of the contaminated areas or placement of water- or saline-soaked pads. If the area becomes dry, then the WP can re-ignite. In addition, bathing the area in a bicarbonate solution will neutralize any phosphoric acid that may have been produced. Remaining WP particles should be immediately removed surgically. Removal requires care to prevent further contamination of the person or responders. After complete removal, the patient can be treated as a burn victim.

www.fas.org...

Thought that was worth mentioning.

immercing the patient in the dark ( without drownding them) will dilute the WP and will illumnate it so removal is easier.
