Another take on sexism:

I have been seeing an increase in the sexist post on ATS lately... but in some way not all the sexist remarks indicate somebody is actually sexist. Sometimes we just let little jokes fly around because it's amusing (I personally do not partake); then there are the true sexist who're actually serious about the often-insulting and bigoted things they say.

To be honest I don't even pay attention to the majority of sexist remarks because they seem cliche, & just slip my mind. In any case, I treat all fellow posters equally --- male or female.

Mr. Confusion here. (And I am a Mr.)

This thread has been very frustrating for me. It didn't seem to be able to decide between being a serious complaint, a thoughtful discussion of a perennial issue, or a foot-stamping rage.

Remember the provided definition the OP wanted to use for sexism?

I can deal with the cooking and cleaning jokes and banter, because all you men know you won't be able to make comments like that in a few generations, I can deal with period jokes, hormones, interiour design, and some of the emotional qualities that come with being a woman...

Well, that's a pretty narrow definition of sexism, especially since she has no problem with jokes about hormones, periods, and emotions. So what is her true issue here? Sex and pregnancy.

I would wager a life time of earnings that she is in favor of allowing birth control to prevent pregnancies, and almost as much that she does not recommend a lifetime of abstinence. I begin to see the light.

This whole "rant" is just an emotional demand that no one, ever, questions her right to birth control at any time. Fine, I can see that, but claiming that anyone who disagrees with her on the subject of birth control is "sexist" and needs to be censored makes her look a little childish.

Men and women are not the same. The difference anyone has as a member of either sex may be a benfit in some situations, and a detriment in others. There is nothing wrong in pointing this out and discussing it if it is relevant. In spite of that, I do not like divisions, or hatred. I'm sorry to see any encouragement of those things

In the meantime, congratulations on your rant. Perhaps I've treated it too seriously, but at any rate I've treated it more seriously than it deserves.

Who says "equality" is fair? It's not religion at all that is doing this. It's the selfish gene, which does not have a concept of fairness. Religious prohibitions are the effect, not the cause and it's hardly just the religious who "believe this junk." But a cow can only get pregnant once at a time. The bull and the cow both want to spread their genes as far as possible, but their survival strategies are entirely different. The bull's strategy is to impregnate as many cows as possible. Ideally he has his own little herd and is capable of chasing the other bulls off. That's a lot easier than wandering around getting yourself beat up by all the other bulls with their own harems. In theory, the more calves he has means the greater the chance his genes will survive in at least some of them.

The cow, on the other hand, desperately needs a safe haven to raise her calves. Her priority is a safe home and hearth free from other raiding bulls or, indeed, any other threat. She trades her security for being true to the bull, even though he isn't true to her. Her best strategy is to keep her own calves alive to spread her genes.

You still see this behavior today. Look in any "personals" section of a newspaper or online. Men want attractive, bigger than not breasted women. Why? Because that denotes youth, health, fertility, and the ability to nurture the young. Men are attracted visually (hence porn) because genetically, it makes sense. It's a smart decision on his part.

Women, on the other had, want "secure" men, i.e.: Ones with money to provide the home, hearth, and wealth that protects a woman while she raises her kids. Women are NOT attracted visually as much as men (hence an aversion tio porn which, after all, represents the competition). She wants to be "nurtured and loved" showing the home and hearth again. Wealth is more important than attractiveness, so wealthy men, no matter how old or unattractive, tend to get their trophy wives. We pretend we don't act this way, but just look around. Of course we do!

We can all pretend we're not animals. We can pretend we want to build a truly egalitarian society and we're trying hard. We are increasingly effeminizing men by telling them their male behavior is wrong, immoral, or illegal. And we're rewarding women for "breaking the glass ceiling" and seeking a role in combat, i.e.: Acting more like men. This thread is a good example: Angry women demanding equality. That's testosterone induced behavior. Men get into trouble these days even for uttering the wrong words and "offending" someone.

In many cultures there's an outlet for men, some socially-acceptable way to be more sexually active with a greater number of partners.. In Victorian England, for example, a titled man had an arranged marriage to tie together wealthy families and provide "an heir and a spare," but having a mistress on the side was fairly normal. Prostitution was once widely available and legal. Muslims can have up to 4 wives, and often in the Ottoman Empire, had harems. A "normal" harem was 365 women, one for every day (or night) of the year. In India, the Nuer, a warrior class, had a matrlineal arrangement where "marriage" was a formality only. The woman had to attend tha man's funeral, but otherwise was not expected to live with him. Children were taken care of by the Uncle's household. "Matrilineal" does not mean "Matriarchal." Men still ruled.

Today in the US we have a much harder time of it. Being promiscuous has become physically dangerous. Other than serial polygamy, one spouse after another, there's no good way for males to get any extra. It's socially unacceptable and often grounds for divorce. In Europe it's a little easier. Didn't Mitterand's wife and mistress both attend his funeral?

In the real world, i.e.: A "natural" world unfettered by the "niceties" of civilization, the selfish gene would take back over in a generation. There would be no laws enforcing men to be ladylike in their behavior, and the old ways would re-assert themselves.

I'm not saying I want to live in a "natural" world. I like indoor toilets as much as anyone.

For all it's achievements modern technology can be marvelous; but then I remember some crafty souls managed to smuggle an internet connection into the kitchen. Gods be damned!

Trying to eliminate sexism in males is like throwing rocks at a tidal wave. I'd rather be judged on the basis of what I post, rather than cloud the issue by confusing the younger male posters with the idea that they are actually communicating with a female. Sad but true.

I was on a lot of message boards in yahoo. I'm wondering if you frequented the" Woman's studies" forum. I remember I was directed to womens studies after i posted about the hypocrisy of women in relationships and the double standard. I was bashed by a lot of feminist! I made it my mission to try get one feminist to admit a lot of what they believe in is false. I provided evidence backed up with logic in my post which became highly ignored except for the people who thought like i thought. I have been called a misogynistic pig more times then i care to recall.

The women in that forum yelled sexism more then anybody else while holding extremely sexist views towards males. A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bike ring any bells. I think once people understand that the feminist movement isn't about equality they jump ship pretty quickly. I'm all for equality but women refuse to take the good with the bad which isn't equality it favoritism. It doesn't make any sense to fight in the name of equality then expect half the population to accept social injustice because women haven't always been treated fairly in history. It makes even less sense take it out on people who had nothing to do with any of that just because of there gender. The hypocrisy of feminist is amazing they fight for inequality under the banner of equality for the sexes.

As far as sexism on ats I have had my fair share from the women on here and see it from the guys too. I posted a thread on the topic of controlling your sexual urges so you don't get manipulated through sex in a relationship. The thread was derailed by women so quickly it wasn't funny. I was accused of power tripping, misogynistic ect ect while they derailed the thread by making total abstinence including masturbation sound like a walk in the park claiming years without any sexual activity with or without a mate. One even claiming Asexuality.

Society lets women get away with murder literally and figuratively. Women these day never except fault of any kind and America is building a nation our egomaniac women with princess complexes who have nothing to fear.

The women answered your question, how did they derail it? Because you didn't like their answers? You even thought the old lady who's husband had health issues was lying. You're just real paranoid and seem obsessive about however you perceive females to be.
