North Korea has more than 500 trained computer hackers ready for a massive cyber war on the US. These millitary hackers has undergo a five year University course on hacking into government computers. Their main targets seem to be United States, South Korea and Japan. These attacks will be a serious threat to national security worldwide. Some of these attacks will be launched from China.

"North Korea's intelligence warfare capability is estimated to have reached the level of advanced countries," the report said, according to Yonhap news agency.
The military hackers had been put through a five-year university course training them to penetrate the computer systems of South Korea, the United States and Japan, the report added. Their goal, it said, was to gather intelligence or to launch a cyber attack.

If North Korea has the capability to hack into western computer systems, they can cause massive disruption on our everyday life. If our banking sytems, stock exchange etc were to be shut down or disrupted for a couple of days, we have big problems. It's even worse if they can get into our Defence systems.
I do believe we have the necessary systems in place to protect against any such attacks, but on the other hand, do we really know what NK is capable of.

quote "five-year university course training" blow it out their ass the same security holes that were out that long ago is gone. I would love them to try and do a massive dos attack they would succed for short time but in long run be a failure. Did they learn on windows 98 to hack ?

Stock exchange / us army etc all use custom made firewalls so it be hard to break through and if they do wont get far, i bet they didnt teach hackers english, wtf they going to do if they dont understand english

You are assuming alot there. The greatest victory an enemy can have, is making his enemy (ie You) believe he has the advantage and is superior. People make mistakes then.....

i am sure the US has better hackers. However the relative ease that some hackers have to hack into systems is a concern. Not so long ago one of the major banks in South Africa has been hacked, and funds move to the hacker's account. They eventually caught him, but the damaged has been done, and the bank's credibility has been damaged severly.

The sad realality is anyone any group any company any government agency can be hacked.
Banks have been hacked-they have very advanced protection and very good people working for them.
The Pentagon has been hacked many times-they some of the best equipment and many redundant firewalls to protect them.

I am not saying N Korea has what it takes to do real damage to the US and it's interests-in cyber attacks-but it can be done.

What they don't realize is the US is in a position to do the same. Just imagine if the US government put a $100,000 bounty on hacking and distroying N Koreas military and infrastructure. The hackers need not be limited to US citizens. Any system they have connected to the internet and any systems connected to them could be distroyed.

I am not suggesting this should be done-but before N Korea thinks about doing something-they should realize whatever they do, the US can do on to them 1000 fold or more-weather in conventional bombs, nukes or cyber attacks.

Meh, I'm not worried about some 'trained hackers' so much as I'm worried about that angsty 16 year old in his mothers basement with an axe to grind. So many countries now claim to have armies of hackers, but it still seems that its often still the Highschool or Jr College studnets who wreak the most havoc on computers.

I am not sure that anyone should be that worried about a North Korea Cyber Attack because they don't have any power to turn on their computers. Take a look at the picture below.

If ever there was a perfect example of a one bullet war needing to be fought... ol' Kim is the perfect test...
North Koreans are truly just ignorant. If KIM JONG actually allowed someone in his country to use the internet, they would be so exposed to a world of truths that they never knew, they would probably revolt right then and there...
Without the great and exalted leader/GOD they would be normal and nice (and much more healthy). taking out Ol' Kim and a few of his "inner crowd" would be all it took, everyone else would welcome a change.
...Here is to hoping that ol' KIM trys to fly out of a tall building (with his most godly like powers)

If the people don't want freedom, I see no reason to help them along. Untill they show a hint of wanting to get rid of the dude, theres no reasn to get caught up in another war.

As for the comment of the US controling the internet, I don't even know where to begin; its one of the most uninformed statements I have heard to date on ATS.

I think what he meant was that people would be able to view sites along the lines of:

amazon
ebay
The New York Times
refdesk.com
abovetopsecret
penny-arcade
etc

Not necessarily some kind of cornfed USA democracy propaganda.

consider that some of the best hackers that got cought now work for the fbi cia nsa etc. Indtead of going to jail now I know what I'd rarther do and go to work for. So for me I think the US has some of the worlds best hackers and I doubt N Korea would pose a threat in this area.

North Korea the forgoten enemy, at least to our present and pass administrations.

They have nukes

They are developing their oil reserves

And now they are going to hack into US, hummmm will they get better than US hackers? well I thinks we should ask our administration what in the heck is going to do about NK.

The best hackers work for the Mossad, the US intelligences don't even have the slightest chance to compete with them.

I really don't understand why everybody thinks that the best hackers are from the USA or Russia and definatly have to work for the NSA. There is fiction with movies and there is reality. In reality there aren't much stories about a cyberwar army from the USA or Russia. Oh wait, there is none at all

On the other side I doubt that NK hackers can keep up with the latest security approaches. It takes more than learning from the internet - all on your own. At least to become better than the rest.

Shoo sorry mate but there was a programme on channel4 UK TV about it and showed at least 10 ex hackers working for the fbi so now tell me diffrent. Funny huh getting a goverment pay roll for being an ex hacker now working for the fbi etc.

The government does not work together with real hackers. They might be called hackers but no hacking freaks are contracted, that's a dream of kids and stuff for the movies. Just it's on TV it isn't true.

Especially in this field I can assure you that nobody wants those moles and potential high security risks in any office.

Can't remember Mitnick got a job or Kevin Poulsen - blackhat hackers(commonly referred to as hackers) do not get a job with the government. A rule.

I swear on my nans grave they do you just dont want to admit it. They where ex hackers who were cought for doing serious crimes so the FBI offerd them the choice either work for us or go to jail. Now tell me what would you rather do?
