Obama skips D-Day recognition

So, I voted Democratic historically. I have been leaning other than Obama lately and I think he's pushed me over to the "Dark Side" by skipping any recognition of D-Day. As a career military man, this is too much. Too many young men (and women) died to give him his opportunities (all of us really). He was fund raising in California. I understand it takes money to win but this is too much. He could have done something at the Presidio or some other veterans cemetary in California. I won't forget this in November.

just one question - did previous presidents attend a d-day celebration every single year of thier presidencies - or just major aneversaries ie 50 , 60 65 years etc ?

I am with you on this one. My grandfather was at Normamdy just like many other's grandfathers and fathers. I never got to know him because he passed a few months before I was born, but that was one of the first things I learned about him. Alot of the men who fought there are in their last years or getting close, and they still wear their commemorative hats and shirts like it was just a few years ago. I work as a restaurant manager, and on the 6th I took care of the checks for a few different guests who had served that historical day, and made sure that they were thanked. For many of the elderly men who served, that day changed their lives forever, and they still talk about it so vividly like it was yesterday. They deserve to be celebrated for their courage. I think I will be writing in my own name for president this year.

You think if he cared if might have mentioned it in his stumping speeches that day. I read that this was not the first time he "skipped" D-day. It is the third time he blew it off. He did give a speech on it in 2009 the 65th anniversary.

I think the title of this article nails why.

Narcissists don't know how to love anyone, but themselves.
This omission truly suggests his hatred for our country. It is an "In your face" to anyone to has served the country and to those who grieve the loss of loved ones who died for it.

Funny thing, he probably lost more votes by ignoring D-Day than he gained from a full day of stumping. Any intelligent candidate would use the opportunity of commemorating the day. Perhaps he and his advisers never paid attention in history class or maybe he was rooting for Hitler.

Hes a bum.

Everything else is just rumor.

In his eyes- The dead should be celebrating him.

He isnt the first to skip it but as stated above. He skipped it while doing other things and making public appearances and never mentioned it at all. Most of the others while skipping it formally still made references informally through other channels or at wherever other venue they might be at. Its not totally that he skipped it. Its that he skipped while having opportunities to at least say something in observation of the significance of the day.

DDay was like a million years ago. And by the time the Americans entered the European war the Russians had shattered the Whermacht on the eastern front and the British have beaten Rommel in Afrika.

How about recognizing the effort of vets in other American wars, I believe in Korea and Vietnam the contribution of the American forces was vastly greater than that of their allies in those wars, when compare to WW II.

There should have been a mention but look what he did on Memorial day at the Vietnam wall! That to me says it all. No I didn't vote for him. I am currently on the if you are in office today - you get voted against the next election around.

Myself and many of my family have served in many of the American Wars. Thanks to all my fellow brothers and sisters that can proudly say we served. I am just at a loss now and question why we serve any longer as our government no longer seems to serve its people.

Obama attends an event: "That secret Socialist is flying aroiund on our dime and giving speeches when he should be in D.C. fixing the economy!"

Obama doesn't attend an event: "That secret Muslim is disrespecting (insert group here) by staying in D.C. and not attending (insert event here)!"
