Ancient tribes traded with others, and amongst themselves goods and services which made their lives better.... That is a free market/capitalism.

It was the "nationalization" of goods and services in the hand of a few that has ALWAYS brought dictatorships, and suffering to the people...

Socialism gives ALL power to the state, and in the name of "the collective" socialism takes away individual rights which means the rights of EVERYONE is taken away "in the name of the collective" or "in the name of the revolution" or "in the name of the Earth"...

Many examples of the modern versions of the Marxist / Corporatist agenda exist in some of those places.

China is the most recent example of the Marxist / Corporatist agenda gone crazy.

Honestly it's not worth debating if you're going to disingenuously attribute everything evil in the world to the Left. Marxism is left and it went horribly wrong, even die hard Marxists acknowledge this. What we are experiencing today is not a product of the Left, it is Fascism. And that is the bottom line. I just read the first 4 pages of this thread and Outkast Searcher has managed (as usual) to deflect the topic from Obama's dishonesty about his past, to "right vs. left", "democrat vs. republican", and "capitalism vs. Socialism".

If I didn't know better I'd say he was baiting people into off-topic arguments to get the thread closed down like so many others just like this.

And to get back on topic, haven't we heard from Obama himself how he hung out with socialists in his youth? This is no suprise to anyone, and neither is the way the MSM has completely ignored it.

As a child of a father who grew up in a climate of real fascism - your association of this phrase with our current conditions in the U.S.are astonishingly off-base. The USA is a plutocracy.

The New Party was a progressive social democratic party, not a "socialist " party. True socialists don't support the Democratic Party because it is capitalist. Even though some socialists support the Democrats, that's because most of the country is stuck in the two party system and they see it as the lesser evil compared to the Republicans.

I guess it depends on what you do... If you make/do little, don't progress throughout your life to get better, need a lot of Government support, I guess capitalism is not for you.

If you want to be independent without the need of Government support, don't want to pay huge taxes, don't want socialized anything, but also don't want to see inflation go crazy, or see us 15/20 trillion in the hole because you want to actually buy the stuff you want out of your own pocket, then capitalism might be for you.

Hope you enjoy your cheap, abundant food, clothing, television, consumer electronics, air conditioner and entertainment mr/ms anti capitalism. You'd have to be blind to think our current problems are due to "unregulated" capatilism. There isnt a thing in this country that isnt regulated at some level. Capitalism is not about big capitist brother watching out for your best interest, its about unburdening you to look out for your own self interest. Look around, most of our big societal probls find their root in government. Most of the things that make your life easier and better than your great great grandparents is primarilly a result of capitalism.

Hell no we don't want our leaders in the center. All we want are leaders that will stand up for the constitution and promote individual liberty and personal responsibility.

If you want something else, I suggest that you either move to a socialist country and not # up ours, or get 2/3rds of both houses and 3.4ths of the states to agree with you. If you don't there are those who WILL fight for our liberty.
