Louisiana GOP spirals into chaos as Ron Paul delegates injured, arrested

More Ron Paul controversy at a state convention.

read and comment.

Several supporters of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) sustained injuries while being arrested during the Louisiana Republican Party’s state convention over the weekend, in a conflict that engulfed the meeting after Paul’s supporters overwhelmed other delegates and voted in new leadership, only to be ignored.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) won the Louisiana primary and received 10 delegates, while former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) took second, earning five delegates along with it. Paul finished fourth in the primary, behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA), but his supporters dominated the state’s caucusing process in April, meaning he stood to gain as many as 30 delegates at the state convention.

And with an audience widely stacked in his favor on Saturday, it seemed likely that Paul would again emerge from a state convention the unexpected victor… That is, until the LAGOP chairman turned the process on its head.

More "rules" being manipulated" ???

The conflict hinged upon an alleged violation of the state party’s rules by Chairman Roger Francis Villere, Jr., who’s headed up the LAGOP since 2004. Paul supporters claim he called upon a former Rules Committee chairman, who had been defeated the night prior, in order to implement rules that would marginalize Paul’s delegates. That’s when Alex Helwig, a Paul supporter who’d claimed he had won the race to chair the rules committee, stood up and objected to the chairman’s actions, only to be ignored.

As Helwig’s protest continued, cameras caught Villere saying: “This is not debatable. He is the chairman of the rules committee. I would ask you to sit down. We told you to sit down… I’m going to ask you to be seated, or I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I’m going to have you escorted out if you don’t leave.”

If I didn't know any better, This reminds me a classic Liberal infiltration tactic

Are we seeing a "Pattern" ??

Alex Helwig, Ron Paul Rules Chairman, elected legitimately by the majority delegation, is thrown out and assaulted at LA GOP Convention by Shreveport Police.

Henry Herford, the delegation Chairman legitimately elected according to all procedure, responds after being released from the hospital following a vicious, insensible assault by the Shreveport Police Department. Mr. Herford is a hero to all who wish to restore the Republic.

My favorite part of the article,

Herford said later, after he was treated for dislocating his prosthetic hip, “It felt like somebody had kicked me, brought me down. They said I was resisting arrest, but they never said I was under arrest. I didn’t leave when they told me to leave, but I never was told to leave… I have a room here in this hotel and I’m on the state central committee. I don’t know how I could be in an improper place.”

I wonder if anyone has video of the entire session so we can see if the police actually told him to leave at any point before grabbing him because from the sounds of it the police are in the wrong here. 2012 is not a boring year for Republicans that's for sure.

So what on earth happened? Did he or didn't he win? Seems like he initially won, then the old guy had everyone arrested and elected his own people

Got your feathers and sensibilities ruffled a bit? As an old classic liberal I thought I recognized that as an old Republican kind of tactic. But since I've never had qualms about voting across party lines it doesn't bother me to get behind Ron Paul because he's the best that any party is offering. It likewise doesn't bother me at all that the GOP is getting a bit of new life breathed back into it after the evangelicals took it over some time back.

I really don't find the humor in having elections then tossing away the outcome if the old faction doesn't like the results - which seems to be what is happening with increasing frequency these days. One might wonder why we bother even having elections in that case. Some of us just have some old-fashioned ideas about liberty and fair elections, I suspect.

Both parties exhibit some of those "classic tactics". Remember not long ago the South had that Democratic voting block that is now fairly much held by the Republicans. With that shift there is a new generation of voters looking to usher in new ideas and views. Along with that is the old guard that does not want to give up their power and privilege to the new majority. Others will just quit paying attention and be left wondering what it all means. It takes time, determination, and effort to bring about needed change but in the end it will prevail.

possibly undecided.

The 2012 Louisiana Republican State Convention met on Saturday in Shreveport and elected 30 delegates to represent the state in Tampa, Florida at the Republican National Convention.

Under party rules, ten supporters of Rick Santorum were chosen. Five delegates are official Mitt Romney delegates and one is for Ron Paul. The other fourteen are technically unbound to any candidate and are expected to support Governor Romney.

Louisiana receives 46 votes at the national convention. Thirty were elected on Saturday. Three are automatic delegates. No one was nominated for the final thirteen positions, which were left vacant and may now be filled by the state party’s Executive Committee. The positions were left open by a majority of the delegates participating in the convention in order to facilitate talks with Ron Paul supporters who refused to participate in the convention in order to protest state party rules requiring presidential candidates to approve delegates allocated to them.

Really, the only problem I had was this was the guy with the Borken Hip and it looks like he is standing just fine. The way he collapsed and kept asking for a Doctor was a little over the top. Otherwise, get on your feet and keep fighting.

See, this is why the movement is almost born to fail in a way, and trust me I wish this wasnt the case. I watched the so called "occupiers" in Chicago and now am seeing more and more of some "wimps" who want to almost create some dramatic problem in a conflict.

Its a disgrace.

So much for the people being able to decide who they want for president. If the GOP keeps this crap up the people left in the party will be the ones the elite have bought and the easily led sheeple.

Its just more Ron Paul people acting up causing problems being disrespectful of there overlord masters lol. I mean with all the evidence of voter fraud and outright coverup/blackout with the media outlets, newspapers ect. Changing rules, declaring convention leaders, having the police arrest people for loitering after being kicked out, ballet cards missing, ballot card stuffing.

Why would anyone want to even vote anymore is obviously rigged. the fact that they even have cops who can throw people out at the whim of one man without that man doing anything wrong. And yet the people do nothing! they let it happen, the let the cops arrest people, they accept this, its wild crap. People video tape this stuff and nothing happens! no cops fired, no jail time for the fraud, no nothing and the cops are like trained thugs they just grab people and don't even second guess this crap. This man didn't do anything wrong why was he detained or asked to leave in the first place?

the people need a real police force that is armed and trained to protect peoples rights from normal cops who abuse it

The die was cast before the primaries even started.................the GOP leadership wants Romney in the white house, and be damned with what the electorate wants....I have not seen such obvious rule breaking, and outright fraud being perpetrated on the people since the GB election was won in Florida on machines that were fixed to give specific results.
The citizen can npow rest assured that the constitution will be totally dismembered should The GOP get Romney in.
There is ample reason for a write in campaign to end the corruption and install Dr Paul in the POTUS chair.
Though i wont hold my breath..............

The people did decide, and they did not choose Ron Paul. Paulites want the state to go to Paul despite the people having spoken against him. Funny how government needs to listen to the people unless you want something else.
