Japan city could watch animals for tsunami signs

In this small report posted on Yahoo news, the seers, prophets, predictors, feel sickers, and animal watchers are going to love this one:

The southwestern coastal city of Susaki is contemplating studying whether a rapid lowering of water in wells or chickens squawking loudly for no apparent reason are indicators of an impending earthquake and tsunami.

"They may not foretell a future disaster in a perfectly accurate manner, but the most important is to analyse such data thoroughly," said deputy mayor Yoshihito Myojin, according to a regional broadcaster late last month.

Over the years many tales about natural phenomena have been passed down as signs of an impending natural disaster in Japan, including abnormal movement of fish and cats fleeing their homes.

So maybe in this there will be some confirmation of conviction for all those that say animals know these things before humans. Stories of like in Indonesia before the massive quake and tsunami hit in 2004, that all kinds of animals high tailed it for the hills.

So next time the chickens squawk, the roosters crow, the cats do the mad dash, the dogs cower under the table, or you feel that woozy sickness, you will be in good company.

And you're STILL gonna drive us all nuts. Why? Because I don't understand how an animal is going to know if a tsunami is generated from an earthquake or not...

The theory that animals can predict quakes has been around for ages, if it were in any way reliable, there would be reports all over the place, like: "Dog predicts 6.9" or "Chicken saves family from 5.2 quake". Don't see them though do ya?

Maybe at some point they can locate the portion of the brain that lights up when they "sense" something, then we can place electrodes in their brain that lights an LED or some pure tone generator.

Maybe we could train them to sense when their battery is about to die.
