As someone who lives next to the barrier reef this is very disturbing. At the same time the reef is central to Queenslands economy and too much action too fast will have a big impact. The plight of our wonder of the world has been left in the background but hopefully this report will bring attention back to it. Dredging and ports are what cause the most damage but continued recreational activities also have an impact.

The federal government may not be able to meet a major recommendation of a scathing UNESCO report on the Great Barrier Reef, Environment Minister Tony Burke says.

While we are most likely to not implement enough changes to satisfy this report I believe other strategies can be implement to meet the demand amongst the great barrier reef. Expansions to Queenslands rail network and the Bruce highway could be seen as alternatives and could reduce the impact of the ports along central and north Queensland somewhat.

One of those learning experiences about not putting your signature on the dotted line before understanding the implications. Too soon old, too late smart.

Which ones? The ones who lived there for thousands of years?

Or the ones who just moved there?
